Chapter 1093 — The Emperor Falls, the Dao Endures; the Beauty Turns Ruthless
The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 1 of 2
From the first time Cloud Venerable set foot on this unfamiliar world, he had often come here to counsel the Creator race, explaining strategy and deception to Lang Wan and the other Creators in the hope of teaching them how to lie—yet with little result. It was decided by the environment in which the Creator race dwelt. These were Creators who yearned for a life free of care; otherwise they would not have fled here and established the Great Void.
It was decided equally by the way they cultivated their divine sense.
Among the Creators there was no need for falsehood, no need for deceit; when they communicated through their divine senses, the lightest touch of one consciousness against another revealed everything in the other's heart, so lies and deception had no soil in which to take root.
In the past, the First Spirit Luo Xiao had been able to leave the Great Void and gather intelligence abroad precisely because he was the cleverest of the Creator race.
Yet even Luo Xiao had never learned to deceive. What Lang Wan and the others had not foreseen was how cruel Cloud Venerable's final lesson to the Creators would be.
So cruel that it meant deceiving their kinsmen on another continent, using a million lives and the destruction of the Great Void to cripple the Great Emperor's power! And those ninety-eight elders and chiefs had actually supported his proposal!
The only purpose of Cloud Venerable and those ninety-eight chiefs and elders was to trade a million lives for a hundred thousand lives.
That day, the young maiden Lang Wan went through the hours in a haze.
She saw the other Great Void utterly destroyed—the vast boundless continent, the starry sky the Creators had made, the countless stars, the mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas they had created, and every living thing that had come from their hands—all annihilated, turned into a torrent of ownerless divine sense. The consequences of that collapse of divine sense were too severe: the entire Great Void was plunged into a great horror in which whatever one thought became real.
Inner demons made the place unspeakably fearful; chaotic, dreadful, ownerless divine sense could perceive the demon in your heart and turn it into reality!
Likewise, that dreadful divine sense would come into contact with your own and pollute it.
This supreme pure land had been utterly defiled, and the other Great Void would, no doubt, soon be destroyed as well, because the Great Emperor had already arrived.
Following the scheme of Cloud Venerable and the others, the ninety-eight chiefs and elders fought a bloody battle against the Great Emperor, dying one after another, until at last they lured him into a trap. The trap had been designed by the three Heavenly Venerables—Cloud, Moon, and Ling—against the Great Emperor's Daluo Supreme Divine Sense, laid out to exploit the weaknesses in his divine sense. And the price had been horrifying.
To execute the Great Emperor, they had not hesitated to use his own hand to destroy the Great Void, filling it with chaotic, ownerless divine sense so as to suppress his cultivation.
To execute the Great Emperor, they had nearly offered up the sacred relics that countless people of every race had labored over, offering day-and-night sacrifices, in order to bind him fast. They lured him onto the Lotus Continent, activated the trap the three Heavenly Venerables had designed, and used the Way of Creation to restrain the creations of his divine sense.
Innumerable thick rootlike tendrils burst through the flesh of both legs, piercing into the Lotus Continent and pinning his physical body in place.
They fought a desperate, death-defying battle and forced the Great Emperor to unfold his Supreme Divine-Sense Domain. Yet once that Supreme Divine-Sense Domain was unfolded, the Great Emperor's death was sealed.
And at the same time, their own deaths were sealed too. In that moment, the three Heavenly Venerables, Cloud, Moon, and Ling, struck out together, reversed the Supreme Divine-Sense Domain, and sealed the Great Emperor, together with the remaining chiefs and elders, inside it! The Great Emperor's own Supreme Divine-Sense Domain became the last straw that trapped the Great Emperor himself in death.
The three young Heavenly Venerables stood outside the Supreme Divine-Sense Domain and watched it all, a hundred feelings surging in their hearts.
The Great Emperor Juyu, whom even the Heavenly Emperor leading the ancient gods had been unable to capture and kill, had died at their hands. The Great Emperor, honored by the Creators as invincible in flesh and invincible in divine sense, had now a dead body and a divine sense sealed for eternity—and all of it was the work of three young Heavenly Venerables of the human race.
"You three!
" The Great Emperor's divine sense was frozen inside his own domain, still surging violently, yet the waves grew steadily calmer. He looked at the three young faces outside the domain and, with the last shred of divine sense he could muster, turned it into a voice that echoed through heaven and earth: "I will kill the three of you one by one, to repay this day's deep enmity and hatred! You are already doomed to die one by one at my hands, and your corpses will be my trophies.
. .
" Ling Venerable raised a finger; a tiny rune danced at its tip and flowed into the Supreme Divine-Sense Domain.
As if completing the final piece of a puzzle, she activated the trap fully, and the Great Emperor was sealed completely. "The Great Emperor is dead at last.
We should return too," Ling Venerable said.
Moon Venerable looked around.
What remained of the Great Void was full of monsters spawned by inner demons, and had already become an uninhabitable place.
A look of pity stole across her face. "Then what about them.
.
.
" Cloud Venerable walked over to the surviving Creators. The few remaining chiefs and elders told him, "We will lead the surviving clansmen on a migration, to the Other Shore of the Great Void. Following the First Spirit's second prophecy, we will forge the Void Bridge and establish a carefree world on the Other Shore. " Cloud Venerable nodded.
"I will come back from time to time to help you, until you have created the Other Shore World.
Moon Venerable will also help you design the entrance from the Void Bridge to the Other Shore.
She has designed three houses that will ensure no one else can find it.
" With that, he went to Lang Wan's side. The young Creator maiden was still sunk in boundless grief.
"I once cared for you, but I never will again. " The young Creator was dazed; tears suddenly fell, yet her tone was extraordinarily calm. Following the main host of Creators in their migration, she said without looking back, "I think I will never care for anyone again.
Cloud, your last lesson has moved me deeply. For the sake of my race, I will become another you. " Cloud Venerable stood there in a daze, watching her figure recede, and felt a sudden pang in his heart.
He very much wanted to tell this girl that she did not have to become like him; he wanted to see her carefree as she once had been; he wanted to call aloud after her, to promise her something.
In the end, a smile hung at the corner of his mouth, and he heard himself say, "All right.
" Hearing this, Lang Wan's body trembled slightly. At last, her resolve was made, and she walked farther and farther away. Moon Venerable and Ling Venerable came to his side.
Cloud Venerable wiped away the melancholy in his heart, lifted his spirits again, and said with a smile, "We should go too.
Our human race still needs us. " The three of them left this shattered place.
Almost inadvertently, they looked back.
The surviving Creators were once again undertaking a bitter migration, just as their ancestors had, walking through the ruined world of the Great Void.
