Heavenly Venerable Yun understood. He looked up at the sky, then at the ghost ship growing faint in the mist, and laughed heartily. "So be it, then! Fellow Daoist Mu, I shall rule this past, and you shall rule the future!"
Shen Mu read his words, and tears wet his cheeks before he knew it. He called out, "First Senior Brother, is there any wine?"
Wei Suifeng grumbled, "Hurt this badly, and you want to drink? Like hell you will."
Even so, he fetched a jar of fine wine he had treasured aboard the ghost ship and handed it to Shen Mu. "Drink, then. This is a wine the Celestial Emperor gave me; I have never had the heart to drink it. But aboard this ghost ship, even fine wine turns to changeless substance—after you drink it, you will come back."
Shen Mu struck the jar's mouth open with his palm, and the fragrance of wine spilled forth.
He raised the jar, heroic spirit surging in his chest. "Fellow Daoist Yun, I drink to you!" With that, he threw back his head and drank deep.
"Good!" Heavenly Venerable Yun laughed. "I have no wine here, so I shall drink the Heavenly River in its place!"
He opened his mouth and drank deep of the Heavenly River.
When Shen Mu had finished, he dashed the jar to the ground, already warm with drink.
Heavenly Venerable Yun seemed a little drunk himself. He laughed aloud and said, "Fellow Daoist Mu, go back. I am here!"
Shen Mu cupped his hands and bowed. "Then I leave it to you, Fellow Daoist. Take care!"
"Take care!" Heavenly Venerable Yun bowed slightly. "And I leave the future to you, Fellow Daoist!"
He straightened, and saw that the mist had dispersed—the ghost ship was gone.
