Chapter 1356 — Terror in the Night
The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2
At this moment the Yuan Realm was in darkness, yet those strange worlds were not all in darkness; some stood at the hour of sunrise, and the people near the Dao Sect saw a great sea, with three suns that looked somewhat smaller rising slowly from its face. The radiance of the rising sun spilled out of the night, across the sea, across the peach grove along the shore, and from the peach grove down upon the Kunlun Ruins' mountains of the Dao Sect, like a lovely scroll painting slowly unrolling!
Yet as the notes of the peach grove leaped, the scene changed with them; they saw a world of darkness descend, black mountains like the fins on a monster's back, ghastly and terrible. The notes leaped, and all at once it was day, a clear sky for ten thousand li, deep blue, with a vast continent floating in the heavens and many god-people, bird-headed and human-bodied, with two wings, flying through the sky.
Then all at once it was a world in the setting sun, the falling sun at its reddest, evening clouds spanning the sky, surpassingly beautiful. The ten-thousand-li peach grove seemed to stand within a leaping space, springing without cease among the heavens and the myriad worlds; notes made of light strings and melody formed a thousand hundred leaping planes of space, and the people around the Dao Sect stared, eyes fixed, unable to look away.
Suddenly a Dao Sect elder looked off toward the darkness in the distance and saw that in a far place the Yuan Tree stood like a monster in the dark at the center of the Yuan Realm. And there, two long, narrow eyelids were slowly opening!
Those two eyes were truly enormous; even at such a distance they were plainly visible! Startled, the elder hurriedly struck the bell and summoned the Dao Sect's disciples, saying in a low, grave voice, "The Dao Lord is not here.
Go down the mountain at once, each of you, to the nearby cities and towns, and restrain everyone: let none leave their houses, let none leave the city walls!
Everyone must shut their doors and windows; on no account may anyone go out! " The Dao Sect disciples went off one after another.
That elder likewise went down the mountain himself to restrain the common folk nearby, and stole one more glance at the eyes that were gradually brightening in the darkness.
Then he saw that the stars in the sky had grown, at some unknown hour, considerably larger, and his heart filled with care: "The peach grove.
.
. I fear a great catastrophe is coming! "
