Chapter 1241 — Releasing the News Ahead of Time
"Yao-yao, didn't we search for it ages ago? We've been sitting in the living room ever since, haven't we?" Shen Yushu punctured Gu Mengyao's words without the least mercy — as she often did.
"We just rested a while after that." Gu Mengyao shot Shen Yushu a glare and yawned.
"Heh. Let me introduce a guest — she'll be staying here tonight." As he spoke, Wei Zhao opened the passenger door and helped Feng Xiaoxiao out.
Feng Xiaoxiao had not dared get out of the car earlier; she had no idea whether Gu Mengyao would welcome her.
"A guest?" The young mistress was briefly taken aback, but when she saw Feng Xiaoxiao climb out of the car, a smile spread across her face. "Xiaoxiao, why didn't you get out earlier? Welcome!"
"Welcome, welcome — a warm welcome!" Shen Yushu clapped her hands in delight as well.
With Feng Xiaoxiao installed in the villa as a playmate, the days ahead would certainly not be lonely.
Neither Gu Mengyao nor Shen Yushu had ever truly regarded Feng Xiaoxiao as an enemy.
Because of Feng Xiaoxiao's physical condition, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had accepted her long ago. However well Wei Zhao treated Feng Xiaoxiao, she could never become their rival in love; even Tang Yun had accepted her, so how could Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu possibly treat her badly?
Besides, after a period of contact, Gu Mengyao had discovered that Feng Xiaoxiao was very easy to get along with, that they all had great fun together — and so she accepted her from the bottom of her heart.
Shen Yushu felt this even more strongly. The Troublemaking Duo was no idle name: the two of them together could sweep the whole jianghu, tormenting whoever crossed their path.
"Xiaoxiao's father made an enemy — an international criminal gang. I was afraid they wouldn't give up and would come after Xiaoxiao again, so I simply brought her to the villa," Wei Zhao explained. "And you all know about Xiaoxiao's illness. This way, when she has an attack, I can deal with it in time."
"That's good, then. The villa's big anyway — we'll just clear out a room, and it'll be livelier from now on." Gu Mengyao smiled and nodded at Feng Xiaoxiao.
Shen Yushu, however, ran over happily and pulled Feng Xiaoxiao into the villa.
Wei Zhao had known all along that both Gu Mengyao and Xiaoshu were kind-hearted people, so there should be no resistance at all to Feng Xiaoxiao moving into the villa.
He parked the car in the garage and returned to the villa, only to find Feng Xiaoxiao already sitting around the sofa with Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, searching for something on a tablet — clearly news about Xu Shilan.
"Go to bed early. You've still got school tomorrow," Wei Zhao said, glancing at the three of them.
"Wei Zhao, are you sleeping with Xiaoxiao, or is Xiaoxiao sleeping with us?" Gu Mengyao looked at Wei Zhao and asked.
"That..." Wei Zhao was suddenly rather embarrassed. To live with Feng Xiaoxiao right under the young mistress's and Xiaoshu's noses — somehow it felt awkward no matter how he looked at it.
"Yao-yao, Xiaoshu, why don't I sleep with you two? You won't mind me, will you?" Feng Xiaoxiao was naturally too embarrassed to sleep with Wei Zhao as well. If it were just the two of them, that would be one thing, but this was someone else's home — how could she be so bold?
"Of course not. The bed upstairs is huge — two meters. Even Tang Yun could fit when she comes." Gu Mengyao smiled. For some reason she felt an inexplicable loosening in her heart. Was it because Wei Zhao wasn't sleeping with Feng Xiaoxiao? Gu Mengyao herself didn't know.
"It's getting late, so go take your showers and get to bed." Wei Zhao nodded, said nothing more, and went back to his own bedroom.
After her shower, Feng Xiaoxiao came to Gu Mengyao's bedroom wearing Shen Yushu's pajamas.
She had expected it to be very awkward, but once inside the room she found it warm and cozy.
Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu showed no excessive enthusiasm either. Gu Mengyao merely beckoned casually: "Xiaoxiao, come quick — a message has just been posted on Xu Shilan's official fan club website! According to a reliable source, Xu Shilan is planning a concert tour in the near future..."
"Really? Who knows if it's true or not? Posts on fan clubs aren't very trustworthy, are they?" Having been addressed so casually by Gu Mengyao, Feng Xiaoxiao lost her earlier awkwardness, ran to the bed, squeezed in beside Shen Yushu, and looked at the tablet in her hands.
"Who knows? But it shouldn't be a hoax, right? Look, this person's ID level is really high — an honorary moderator!" Gu Mengyao pointed at the poster's name on the tablet.
"Mm... so it is!" Feng Xiaoxiao nodded in some surprise. "So then, this news might actually be true?"
"Maybe. By tomorrow we should have definite news!" Gu Mengyao said.
After reading the post, the three of them lay on the bed in perfect harmony and watched a Xu Shilan music video, then turned off the lights and went to sleep. Everything was so natural, as though the three of them had always lived together — and it spared Feng Xiaoxiao a great deal of worry...
Xu Shilan watched Sister Wang busying herself at the computer and sidled over, curious.
In daily life Xu Shilan was no different from a little girl — curious, restless, lively, much like any ordinary person.
"Sister Wang? What are you busy with?" Xu Shilan glanced at the computer screen in front of Sister Wang and was immediately startled. "Sister Wang, why are you on my fan club website?"
"I'm going up to post something, to let a bit of news out first, so that when the decision is really made, it won't catch anyone off guard," Sister Wang said.
"Post something? Post what?" Xu Shilan peered at the screen, puzzled. "Huh? Sister Wang, isn't that your honorary moderator ID? Why are you saying I'm going to hold a concert? I have no such plans in the near future!"
"You do now — doesn't that make it so?" Sister Wang laughed. "These next few days, you may very well be holding a concert tour!"
"Why?" Xu Shilan was baffled. "Sister Wang, you know as well as I do that my headaches come on at unpredictable times. If one hits during a concert, it'll be hard to explain..."
Xu Shilan had this strange illness of headaches, which was also why she did not often appear in public performances. Even for concerts, only when there was no other choice would the company step in and hold one unilaterally, cooperating with no entertainment company or department — this too was out of fear that word of her strange headaches would spread.
When Xu Shilan's illness struck, the pain was unbearable, and such a strange ailment was naturally not something to make public. Only if her own company took full charge of a concert could it be guaranteed that, should a headache strike mid-performance, it could be properly covered up.
