Chapter 1604 — In Trouble

Gao Xiaofu's plight instantly drew a roar of laughter from the whole class.

Gu Mengyao rubbed her temples. Why was it that she was always the one to regret things?

Was she truly regretting it? Was it because she had feelings for Wei Zhao? Or was it something else? Gu Mengyao shook her head, trying her best not to think about it. It made her restless. In the beginning, she had been full of wariness and hostility toward Wei Zhao — but somewhere along the way, without her even realizing it, her attitude had quietly shifted.

"Yao-yao jie, what are you thinking about?" Seeing Gu Mengyao standing there in a daze, apparently lost in thought, Shen Yushu hurriedly asked.

"Nothing, Xiao Shu." Gu Mengyao shook her head. "Let's go — I'm a bit tired. Let's head back and rest."

"Oh... so we're not going to the game room?" Shen Yushu looked a little disappointed. It had taken so long to get a chance to come out and have fun, and going back to rest this early was really no fun at all.

Gu Mengyao could see Shen Yushu's disappointment, and she understood — lately they had been studying in the villa and hadn't relaxed once. And after the college entrance exam, Wei Zhao had been busy cultivating. Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, and Tang Yun had all been reluctant to disturb him; they were not people who failed to see the bigger picture. Knowing that Wei Zhao was about to undertake something very important, they had refrained from going out all this while.

So now that such a rare opportunity had finally come along, not enjoying it to the fullest would be a genuine pity! But Gu Mengyao felt worn out these past two days. Before, she had been fanning Wei Zhao and had broken into a sweat all over, and the air conditioning in the room had been blasting at full power — so Gu Mengyao felt as though she was coming down with a cold.

But not wanting to disappoint Xiao Shu, Gu Mengyao decided to go along after all. She smiled and said, "Right, I nearly forgot about that. Well then, shall we go?"

Wei Zhao could see that Gu Mengyao was exhausted, but he could also see the deep, tender care she bore for Shen Yushu. She truly had the air of a big sister about her. For two people to get along so well was rare indeed — not blood sisters, yet closer than sisters.

Kang ** had no intention whatsoever of playing the third wheel, and went straight back to his room to rest. In truth, he was getting a bit fed up: wherever he went, classmates came fawning over him with flattery and praise, which Kang ** found rather tedious.

Wei Zhao and the other two arrived at the activity room on the top floor of the resort. The entire floor was devoted to the activity center, which offered a wide variety of entertainment. Originally, Zhong Yongliang had wanted to book a small private room up here for everyone to rest in, but because of Gao Xiaofu's incident, that plan fell through.

Still, the activity center had plenty of seating, so there was no worry about not finding a spot.

Although the activity center offered many forms of entertainment, the number of actual guests was small — a single glance revealed it to be quite empty! But this was to be expected: the activity center was open only to resort guests and did not operate commercially. Just how many guests could there be?

Wei Zhao and the other two found a spot and sat down. Noticing that Gu Mengyao looked a little pale and weak, Wei Zhao turned to Shen Yushu and said, "What would you like to play? Shall I take you?"

"Sure!" Shen Yushu too had noticed that Gu Mengyao was unwell, so she didn't insist. "Yao-yao jie, you just watch us from here, okay?"

"Mm..." Gu Mengyao nodded.

Most of the time, in her heart, Gu Mengyao still wished Xiao Shu well, hoping she would find a good home! And as for Wei Zhao — judged purely on character and ability, he was indeed a fine choice. But the crux of the matter was that Wei Zhao already had a girlfriend, and not just one.

Was there still a chance for Shen Yushu and him? Even if Xiao Shu said she didn't care on the surface, did she truly not care deep down? And then there was that absurd agreement between them — a main wife and a side wife? Sometimes Gu Mengyao found it very difficult to truly understand Shen Yushu's real thoughts.

Sometimes she seemed simple-minded, always playing the fool. But Gu Mengyao felt that more often than not, Shen Yushu was not pretending to be dumb — perhaps everything she said was perfectly true.

Having grown up alongside Shen Yushu since childhood, no one knew her better than Gu Mengyao. But even so, Gu Mengyao truly did not understand her — this seemingly carefree, even "happy little airhead" of a girl seemed, somehow, not to be living happily at all.

But in many situations, even though they were as close as sisters, whatever secrets Shen Yushu held in her heart and was unwilling to share, Gu Mengyao would never deliberately pry. No matter what, she was Xiao Shu's Yao-yao jie, and she would be good to her for the rest of her life!

Gu Mengyao sighed, quietly resting her head on the table, watching Wei Zhao and Xiao Shu walk away...

Wei Zhao kept Shen Yushu company through a few amusement rides, but Shen Yushu seemed rather subdued, not nearly as lively as before. It was presumably because Gu Mengyao couldn't come along. Wei Zhao found it rather amusing — these two sisters were something else.

"I don't feel like playing anymore, Brother Arrow. Let's go back and keep Yao-yao company!" Shen Yushu said, her enthusiasm flagging.

"Heh, sure." Wei Zhao nodded, went to the nearby beverage counter and bought three bottles of drinks, then headed toward Gu Mengyao's spot with Xiao Shu. But after just two steps, Wei Zhao's face darkened into a scowl!

Because Wei Zhao saw that beside Gu Mengyao's seat sat a bald man in dark sunglasses, chattering away nonstop at her. And standing beside the bald man were several young thugs who plainly looked like nothing but trouble!
