Chapter 1613 — Really No Problem
Gu Mengyao had actually been conscious the whole time. When Xiaoshu called her, saying she was burning up all over, she had already woken — only her body had no strength at all and she could not speak! And earlier, when Wei Zhao's gaze had settled upon her chest, Gu Mengyao had been fully aware of it too!
The young lady had been equal parts ashamed and furious, nearly fainting on the spot! Yet somewhere deep in her heart, a flicker of secret delight stirred... Were her breasts really that pretty? Prettier than Xiaoshu's cow-like bosom? Otherwise, why would Wei Zhao have been staring at her instead of at Shen Yushu?
And how did she compare with Tang Yun? The young lady was feverish, her mind running wild with thoughts, and before long she had spiraled into far too many imaginings...
Matters that, in her usual clear-headed state, Gu Mengyao would never have troubled herself to dwell on now came flooding into her mind, one and all... But later, when she heard Wei Zhao say it was a check for pneumonia, Gu Mengyao felt a sudden pang of disappointment... Was he really checking for pneumonia?
Yet that naked, undisguised stare had not seemed like a simple pneumonia check at all. Gu Mengyao had clearly felt in it a certain hue — the kind only a lecher ever wears in his eyes... And yet rather than being angered by such a wolfish gaze, Gu Mengyao felt something closer to delight...
Before she could think any further, the silver needle in Wei Zhao's hand had pierced into Gu Mengyao's body. In the next instant, a cool sensation spread from head to toe, and the burning heat seemed to recede somewhat...
Looking at Wei Zhao, Gu Mengyao's half-lidded gaze grew hazy and unfocused.
"Brother Arrow, is that all? Just a simple cold?" Hearing that Gu Mengyao's illness was nothing more than a cold, Shen Yushu let out an enormous sigh of relief.
"Yes, just a cold." Wei Zhao nodded. "What did you expect — some terrible disease? By the way, weren't you in the air-conditioned room this afternoon as well? Are you feeling off at all? Let me check you over too!"
Wei Zhao suddenly remembered that Xiaoshu had been standing right beside them as well. If she had caught a chill too, she would need treatment early. Though Shen Yushu appeared perfectly fine at the moment, colds were strange things — the incubation period varied from person to person. Some fell ill on the spot, while others might not react until a day later.
"Me? I'm fine... My body temperature has always run a little hotter than most people's. I generate plenty of heat; the cold air doesn't really touch me..." Shen Yushu blinked in surprise, but almost at once a strange gleam flickered in her eyes, and she said, "Okay, okay! Brother Arrow, hurry and check me! See whether I'm sick!"
"Ha..." Wei Zhao chuckled. "Hold out your hand."
Shen Yushu extended her hand and said, "Should I take my clothes off? My chest is bigger than Sister Yaoyao's — if I don't, Brother Arrow won't be able to see clearly, will he? I'd better not have pneumonia!"
Wei Zhao's foot nearly slipped from beneath him and he almost sat down hard on the floor. Rubbing the bridge of his nose, he said with a wry smile, "That won't be necessary. Your symptoms don't match. You don't have it."
"Oh..." Shen Yushu nodded, not terribly disappointed, only looking at Wei Zhao with a hint of anxiety. "Brother Arrow, do I have some illness or other?"
"No." Wei Zhao gave Shen Yushu a quick examination and found no sign of a cold. "You're perfectly healthy. Your constitution is actually a bit stronger than Yaoyao's."
"Huh? No illness?" Shen Yushu exhaled with relief, but then pressed on, "Brother Arrow, did you check thoroughly?"
"Of course!" Wei Zhao laughed. "An illness this simple — I can spot it in a single glance."
"But what if I have some other, more complicated disease?" Shen Yushu thrust her hand over again. "Brother Arrow, how about you check me once more — see if there's anything else wrong?"
Wei Zhao did not know whether to laugh or cry, but he took Shen Yushu's wrist anyway and gave it a careful check. Then he shook his head. "There really is nothing wrong. You definitely don't have pneumonia."
"Oh..." Shen Yushu looked a little disappointed. "Then do I still need to take my clothes off for another check?"
"No need," Wei Zhao said.
Lying there on the hospital bed, Gu Mengyao listened to every word Shen Yushu said and was deeply displeased. What did she mean, Sister Yaoyao has a small chest and hers is big? This little Xiaoshu was clearly in need of a beating!
Shen Yushu was about to say something more when a knock came from outside the room. Wei Zhao turned to her. "Wait here. I'll get the door."
It should be Kang bringing the medicine. Shen Yushu was not quite suited to be seen.
Wei Zhao walked over and opened the door. It was Kang, just as he had expected.
"Chief, the medicine's here!" Kang had been about to step inside, but he hesitated, held his ground, and passed the medicine to Wei Zhao. Then he said, "I'll head back now!"
"All right, thanks!" Wei Zhao nodded, carried the medicine back into the room, helped Gu Mengyao take it, and then withdrew the silver needles from her body. "Xiaoshu, you should get some rest too. Yaoyao will be fine — once she wakes up tomorrow morning, she'll be as good as new."
"Okay!" Shen Yushu knew Wei Zhao was about to leave. She waved to him.
After taking the medicine, Gu Mengyao's head swam dizzily and she was asleep in no time. When she woke early the next morning, her body felt utterly refreshed — not an ounce of last night's misery remained.
Looking back, it felt as though it had all been a dream. Had it not been for the half-box of cold soft capsules sitting on her bedside, Gu Mengyao might have believed that everything the day before had been nothing more than a dream.
Glancing at Xiaoshu, still sound asleep beside her, Gu Mengyao did not disturb her. She knew the girl had been running about all evening and had not slept well, so she decided to let her rest a while longer.
After a moment's hesitation, the young lady picked up her phone and sent Wei Zhao a text message — just two words: "Thank you!"
Wei Zhao looked at the message on his phone and smiled softly to himself. That was the young lady for you! He replied offhandedly: "Don't forget to take your medicine this morning!"
Gu Mengyao did not reply. Presumably, she had gone to take her medicine.
At around eight o'clock, Xiaoshu also woke. Finding no one beside her, she murmured groggily, "Sister Yaoyao?"
"Xiaoshu, you're awake?" Gu Mengyao had already taken her medicine, washed up, and gotten dressed.
"Uh — Sister Yaoyao, you're better?" Shen Yushu rubbed her eyes and sat up. "What time is it? Didn't we say we're going hiking today? Are we still going to make it?"
"It's still early — just past eight. Didn't we say we wouldn't leave until nine?" Gu Mengyao said. "Thank you for yesterday."
"Sister Yaoyao, what are you thanking me for?" Shen Yushu said. "Thank Brother Arrow, that's what! Sister Yaoyao, Brother Arrow has saved you so many times — have you ever considered offering yourself to him in return?"
"You can strip naked and let him examine your body instead!" Gu Mengyao curled her lip.
