Chapter 1747 — Wei Zhao's Fury (Part 2)

The Blossom Guardian

"Don't—" Wei Zhao hastily cut in. "Don't hang up. I was only joking... My assignment still hasn't wrapped up, and nothing important has come up, so I haven't been in touch..." he explained. "Your assignment? I'd say it never ends. You think you'll only be done once you've married into some rich girl's family as their live-in son-in-law?" the Hacker Princess sneered. "Heh..." Wei Zhao could only answer with a bitter smile. "Never mind that. I'm calling about real business this time. I need you to trace a number—word is it's been bounced through a good many relays and routed back in from overseas. Can you locate it?" "Can I?" the Hacker Princess shot back. "What's the number?" "It's..." Wei Zhao gave her Guan Xin's number. "Give me a moment, I'll check..." Once it came to business, the Hacker Princess stopped teasing him and reverted to her usual clipped, formulaic tone. Wei Zhao was in no hurry; he kept driving toward Songshan City while quietly waiting for the result. "Got it... Whoever's on the other end has some skill, but it's child's play to me," said the Hacker Princess. "The call was relayed dozens of times, and finally routed back through an internet phone service. According to the trace, the target's coordinates put it in Songshan City. Do you have a navigation system? I'll give you the coordinates, and you can enter them and go straight there." "Yes, go ahead..." Wei Zhao switched on the car's navigation. It was the car Feng Tianlong had assigned him, fully equipped with every convenience.

"The coordinates are..." The Hacker Princess recited a string of numbers, and Wei Zhao keyed them in. The location turned out to be the very underground fight club that Er Goudan had gone to! It had originally been an abandoned factory, converted into an underground arena, and after the place was smashed up it had become an empty ruin. Wei Zhao had not expected the Kang family to pick such a spot—though it was a clever choice! No one paid it any attention, and it was not easy to stumble upon. "My thanks," Wei Zhao said to the Hacker Princess. "I've got things to handle today—we'll talk another time."

"I'm busy. Goodbye!" The Hacker Princess hung up on him outright. Wei Zhao shook his head and pushed the speed up again. The car had been specially modified on Feng Tianlong's side; Wei Zhao drove it to its absolute limit, and on the highway cameras his car was nothing but a blur—not a single frame could catch it. The other drivers on the road all thought they had met a ghost car. One driver, who had watched too many science fiction films, rubbed his eyes and said, "Whoa—could that be a flying saucer?" "Wooooo, that feels so good..."

Shen Yushu had never ridden in a car this fast, and she shrieked on the spot: "More thrilling than the roller coaster at the amusement park..." Tang Yun, meanwhile, clutched Gu Mengyao's hand tightly; she was frightened, and though Gu Mengyao was not as scared as Tang Yun, she too was nervous. Only Shen Yushu, the reckless fool, had not the slightest sense of danger—exactly like Feng Xiaoxiao... Not that Wei Zhao would ever let anyone in the car come to harm. As he drove, he had already wrapped the entire body of the car in his true qi, so that even if an accident happened, no danger would come of it. "This is the place. Wait for me here—whatever you do, don't go in. No matter what noise comes from inside, you wait right here. Understood?" Wei Zhao parked the car in a dark spot some distance from the underground arena, then spoke to Gu Mengyao and the others with great solemnity. "All right, we understand. Don't worry," Tang Yun said with a nod, still shaken, her face pale. "But you be careful too!" "Mm, I will," Wei Zhao said.

Darkness lay over the whole of the underground arena, but the two cars parked at the entrance made it clear that there were people inside; no one would leave a car in this desolate stretch of countryside otherwise. Wei Zhao glanced at the plates—Donghai plates, just as expected. Now it was certain beyond doubt that the Kang family was behind this! A nameless fury surged up in Wei Zhao's chest. At the Great Clan Gathering he had let the Kang family off; the Kangs were, after all, more or less kin to the Kang elder, and Wei Zhao had not wanted to put him in a hard position, so he had not moved against them.

After all, ordinary folk buying anything will look for value for their money, and since the effects were much the same, they would naturally buy whichever was cheaper. But now Wei Zhao truly could endure no more! What Kang Zhaoming had done had gone beyond the limits of Wei Zhao's forbearance. Forcing down his anger, Wei Zhao crept up to the underground arena—and found, sure enough, that the gate had been locked from the inside!
