Chapter 1752 — Apology

The Blossom Guardian

"Wei Zhao!" As Tang Yun drew close and saw Wei Zhao slumped unconscious across Guan Xin's back, covered head to toe in blood and grime, she could not help crying out in alarm. "He... what happened to him?"

"He got hurt saving me..." Guan Xin's tears had not yet dried; at Tang Yun's question they began to fall again, beyond her control...

At Guan Xin's words, Gu Mengyao and the others' expressions turned rather sour at once. Wei Zhao had taken such grievous wounds to save Guan Xin—how could they be pleased? Tang Yun had long regarded Guan Xin as a rival in love, and her ties with Guan Xin were nowhere near as close as those with Gu Mengyao. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, for their part, had never had much fondness for Guan Xin either. Wei Zhao's very first injury, at the bank, had been for her sake—and now again!

"Give Wei Zhao to me!" Gu Mengyao did not want Guan Xin carrying him any longer. "Because of you, we cut our trip short and came back, and now Wei Zhao's hurt like this..."

Tang Yun's face was not much better, but she said, "Let it go, Yao Yao. Now is not the time to be assigning blame. Let's get Wei Zhao home first."

"Not... not to the hospital?" Guan Xin was taken aback.

"No need," Gu Mengyao said coldly.

For some reason, Gu Mengyao felt unhappy. What exactly was the relationship between Wei Zhao and Guan Xin, that he would risk his life to save her? Yet then she wondered—was she not fretting more than the parties involved? Tang Yun had said nothing, so why was she so worked up?

Yes, that was it. She was speaking up for Tang Yun. That was all, Gu Mengyao told herself.

Guan Xin could sense Gu Mengyao's hostility toward her too, and did not quite know what to do with herself...

"I... I'm sorry... it's all my fault..." Guan Xin had been worried sick about Wei Zhao to begin with, and now, seeing the looks on Gu Mengyao and the others' faces, she finally broke down crying. She was worried about Wei Zhao too—she had not wanted this either—but at the time she could not speak, and had no strength to stop it...

"That's enough, Sister Guan Xin, we're not blaming you..." Tang Yun knew that so long as Wei Zhao was alive, there was hope of recovery. This sort of thing had happened many times before, so though she was anxious now, she was not overly worried. Seeing that Wei Zhao was still breathing, her tone softened. "Yao Yao is just anxious** too. But he came to save you by his own decision—you don't need to feel so guilty."

Hearing Tang Yun, Gu Mengyao rolled her eyes in exasperation. She thought: I speak up for you, and now you go soft... Yet Gu Mengyao knew that Tang Yun was soft-hearted—and if she were not, Feng Xiaoxiao could never have become Wei Zhao's little wife, nor would she and Shen Yushu have been able to keep letting Wei Zhao stay on at the villa...

So Gu Mengyao said nothing more. She, too, had a sharp tongue and a soft heart. Hearing Tang Yun's words, she reflected that it was indeed so—Wei Zhao had decided for himself to save Guan Xin, so Guan Xin was hardly to blame.

They lifted Wei Zhao into the car. Gu Mengyao took over the driving, and their destination was Guan Xuemin's home. Though she was somewhat displeased with Guan Xin, in Wei Zhao's present condition, if anything went wrong, only Guan Xuemin could treat him.

Wei Zhao could heal his own injuries, but there was always the fear of the unforeseen.

"I'm sorry... it was all because I was careless and got kidnapped..." Guan Xin said, full of remorse.

"It's nothing... I was a bit harsh just now. I'm sorry," Gu Mengyao said. She did not want to make things difficult for Wei Zhao, so she held her tongue. She was not like Tang Yun—Tang Yun had dealt with Guan Xin several times before, but between Gu Mengyao and Guan Xin there was merely an acquaintance...

"Wei Zhao can heal himself, but whether there will be other problems, only your grandfather can tell when the time comes," Tang Yun explained.

"Of course, we'll do everything we can!" Guan Xin nodded.

"There shouldn't be any need for that—Arrow-Brand Bro's color is getting better and better. He must already be healing himself!" Shen Yushu had been watching Wei Zhao's changes the whole way.

"Oh? That's wonderful!" Tang Yun too turned to look at Wei Zhao in the back of the car. Sure enough, his color was much improved. Tang Yun breathed a sigh of relief.

At Shen Yushu's words, the taut string in Guan Xin's heart finally slackened. So long as Wei Zhao was all right, that was enough! Otherwise, she would have been consumed by guilt for the rest of her life.

When Guan Xuemin learned that his granddaughter was unharmed, he was first delighted; but hearing that Wei Zhao had been left at death's door on her account, he was startled, and rushed out of the villa himself. He looked gravely at Wei Zhao in the trunk and exclaimed, "Hurt this badly?"

"Grandpa Guan, Wei Zhao can heal himself. There shouldn't be any major problem—you needn't worry too much!" Tang Yun was always respectful toward Guan Xuemin; she knew he was Wei Zhao's business partner and his elder. "We came here just to wait and see. If any other problems arise, we'll have to ask for your help. After all, this is probably the worst injury Wei Zhao has taken yet..."

"Very well!" Guan Xuemin was not surprised to hear that Wei Zhao could heal himself. Wei Zhao was a doctor—and a formidable divine physician at that—so self-healing was no wonder. Still, healing while simply lying there was something Guan Xuemin had never heard of.

But Wei Zhao was a cultivator, and ordinary rules did not apply to him. So Guan Xuemin hurriedly helped Tang Yun and the others move Wei Zhao into the villa.

Once Wei Zhao was settled, Gu Mengyao and the others sat in the living room, and the atmosphere turned somewhat awkward.

Though Tang Yun had said on the road that she did not blame Guan Xin, Guan Xin still felt uneasy. Wei Zhao had taken such serious wounds for her sake—she truly did not know how she could ever repay him!

For a girl—especially a beautiful girl—giving herself in return is the finest repayment a hero can receive! Though it sounds a little trite, it is an eternal truth: the hero saves the beauty, and the beauty loves the hero. And in Guan Xin's heart, she held no small fondness for Wei Zhao.

But now, even if Guan Xin wished to give herself in return, Tang Yun would not agree. Guan Xin was, after all, a little older, and had been working for some time, so her social experience was naturally richer than that of Tang Yun and the others. She saw at a glance that Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu likely harbored feelings for Wei Zhao as well.

Of course, it might simply be that they were the best of friends—Guan Xin was relying only on a woman's intuition.

"Tang Yun, I've put Xiao Yi to no end of trouble this time. Because of my family's affairs, he's been dragged into injury—this old man is truly ashamed!" Guan Xuemin sighed. "Here, I apologize to all of you, for delaying your travels..." (To be continued.)
