Chapter 1832 — A Lucky Hit

The Blossom Guardian

You must understand that core disciples of the Fire Wolf Gang could become cultivators, and if An Jianwen pulled off a few more deeds, the gang would likely grant him a Foundation Establishment Pill to aid his cultivation!

"Marry you?" Gu Mengyao laughed. She finally understood what An Jianwen had been driving at with all this talk. In the end, he still wanted her to marry him; as for this joint venture to develop an amusement park, it was merely a pretext to start cultivating feelings between them first. Once those feelings took root, everything else would follow as a matter of course.

But Gu Mengyao did not like An Jianwen in the least. Even with such a great temptation laid before her, her heart had never once stirred! She could not say why, but a conviction had always dwelt in Gu Mengyao's heart. She kept thinking that if Wei Zhao woke up, everything would be all right!

Even if much had been lost, with Wei Zhao here, they could rise again from the ashes!

"Yes, you know as well as I do—even though Grandfather dotes on me, if you were not my girlfriend, and I tried to return these holdings to you, Grandfather would never agree!" An Jianwen spread his hands and said with a bitter smile, "Yaoyao, I know saying this may make you think I am taking advantage of your misfortune, but this is the only way I could think of, and besides... I truly do like you!"

"I am sorry... I still have school to attend. I have no interest in developing some amusement park..." Gu Mengyao shook her head and declined An Jianwen's proposal.

"Ah, well, I was only making the suggestion. Think it over, at least. After all, I do not want to see you lose the Gu family's holdings—I hear your grandfather built them up with his own hands back in the day..." An Jianwen said.

"Thank you, but I am not thinking about marriage or work or anything of the sort right now. I still have to go to university," Gu Mengyao said.

"All right, then I will not intrude any further. When you have thought it through, give me a call," An Jianwen said.

"Wait. You said you are going to build a zoo?" Shen Yushu suddenly asked.

"Yes, Xiaoshu, why don't you help me persuade Yaoyao too? After all, we both want to help her!" An Jianwen nodded. He did not like Xiaoshu, but she was the person closest to Gu Mengyao, and if she put in a good word, Gu Mengyao would probably listen.

"Then you will need to buy a lot of animals, won't you?" Shen Yushu asked.

"Of course. How could a zoo have no animals?" An Jianwen had no idea why Shen Yushu was asking, but he answered honestly all the same.

"Then that is just fine. I happen to have a lion here. I will sell it to you—nothing too expensive, just toss me two or three hundred thousand and it is yours!" Shen Yushu said, opening her mouth wide as a lion itself.

"Huh?" An Jianwen was stunned for a moment, at a loss for how to reply.

"Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. We are all so well acquainted, and Sister Yaoyao is short of money too—you are not going to refuse to buy, are you?" Shen Yushu shot back.

"Uh... well, I will buy it. Of course I will buy it. Three hundred thousand, you say... fine. I will go back and talk to my uncle. We will definitely buy it..." An Jianwen was utterly exasperated. He had failed to strike a deal with Gu Mengyao, and now he was buying a lion for no reason at all!

An Jianwen had heard a little about how Shen Yushu had gotten a lion from Gou Huli of the Xiao family, but he never imagined that the beast would end up in his own hands!

What was more, the key point was that developing a zoo had been nothing more than a project he had dreamed up on the spur of the moment; its sole purpose was to create opportunities to get close to Gu Mengyao. If Gu Mengyao would not take part, why on earth would he go and develop a zoo?

Where would he find the spare time? He had far more profitable projects waiting for him!

"Wonderful. I will have someone deliver the lion to you later!" Shen Yushu said.

"..." An Jianwen left Gu Mengyao's home in a foul mood, somewhat helpless. Nothing good ever came of running into Shen Yushu; that little girl always managed to find him some trouble. What a damn mess!

Gu Mengyao could not help but smile at Xiaoshu's tactics, but she made no move to stop her. One was willing to strike and the other to take the blow; in Xiaoshu's hands, everyone except Wei Zhao got plucked clean as a goose in flight. An Jianwen had brought this on himself.

"Xiaoshu, do you think Daddy's business really has nothing to do with An Jianwen?" Gu Mengyao looked at the evidence on her phone and spoke with a hint of helplessness.

"Who knows? This stuff is unreliable, and not a single word out of his mouth is true!" Shen Yushu had a very poor opinion of An Jianwen.

"But there is evidence!" Gu Mengyao said.

"That there is... but as for the truth, we can only wait until Uncle Chu wakes up," Shen Yushu said.

The hidden Yu family.

Yu Bing's family letter had arrived. Any other disciple of the Ice Palace naturally could not enjoy such treatment, but Yu Bing was permitted to write home once a month, and could even have the Yu family's letters delivered into his hands through the Ice Palace!

Other outer disciples had to wait at least a year after entering the sect before they earned the privilege of writing letters to their families, but because Yu Bing had the favor of the Ice Palace's future palace master, he not only received more cultivation elixirs than the other outer disciples, but also enjoyed more privileges within the Ice Palace than any of them!

Even so, no other outer disciple dared to object. Who could compete with a man on familiar terms with the Ice Palace's future palace master?

This time, however, Yu Xiaochen's letter gave Yu Bing quite a fright!

In the letter, Yu Xiaochen demanded to know why Yu Bing had concealed the fact that Wei Zhao had also taken part in the tomb robbery, and why he had said nothing about the Qi Gathering Pill obtained there!

When Yu Bing read the letter, he assumed his father knew everything, and hurriedly wrote back to explain. He admitted that he knew Wei Zhao had indeed joined the tomb robbery and that the man held a Qi Gathering Pill, but that loyalty and filial piety could not both be satisfied—he could not betray a friend, and so he had concealed it...

In truth, Yu Bing's explanation was itself a misunderstanding; he had assumed his father knew everything. How could he have known that this was entirely the result of Yu Xiaochen's lucky hit?

Yu Xiaochen did not know the truth of the matter either. He had only heard Yu Huoxing's one-sided account, and so had written Yu Bing this vaguely worded letter of interrogation. Fearing he would give himself away, he had naturally not said too much, only questioning Yu Bing in general terms—but Yu Bing had a guilty conscience, and so the above result came about!

If Yu Huoxing knew of this misunderstanding, he would probably be grinning from ear to ear. A single casual lie he had invented to frame Wei Zhao had actually been confirmed from Yu Bing's own mouth. Heaven itself was helping him! (To be continued)
