Chapter 1939 — Uncle Qing Has Arrived
Inside the car, Wang Xinyan felt better and better, as though she were about to float up into the sky, and her whole body was drenched in sweat. There was no denying it—this way of curing a cold was sheer indulgence, a hundred thousand times more pleasant than lying there with an IV drip!
"Done!" Wei Zhao finished the massage. He had meant to use his silver needles, but after he dealt with those two drug dealers the other day, he had tossed them carelessly into his backpack, which was now sitting in his dorm room, and he could not be bothered to go back for them. For a trifling cold and fever like this, massage and needles made practically no difference anyway.
"Ah? Already?" Only then did Wang Xinyan notice that she was soaked through, her clothes damp with sweat—but she did feel refreshed, the chills and the dizzy, foggy head from before utterly gone. Still, a pang of reluctance lingered; the treatment had seemed a little too quick...
The next moment, though, she silently cursed herself for being shameless. Was she really craving the feel of Wei Zhao's hands moving over her body?
Seeing the shifting expressions on Wang Xinyan's face, Wei Zhao was puzzled. "Why does your face look a little off? Did I not cure you completely?"
Wang Xinyan had the urge to say, "No, you haven't—you'd better examine me again," but she did not dare be so bold. These past few days she had already done things far beyond the pale, bolder than anything she had done in her whole life. If she kept on like this, would she turn into a bad girl?
"It's cured, it's cured—I just sweated a lot, and I'm a bit hot... I'd like to cool off..." Wang Xinyan said hastily.
"Cool off? Not a chance. Stay in the car and don't go out until the sweat has dried, or you'll catch another cold for sure," Wei Zhao said.
"All right, then go do what you need to do. I'll stay in the car by myself," Wang Xinyan said.
"Fine, I'll be off then. Call me anytime if anything comes up," Wei Zhao said with a nod. Now that Wang Xinyan's illness was cured, there was no point in his staying.
"Thank you..." Wang Xinyan said.
"What's there to thank me for? We're comrades-in-arms!" Wei Zhao said with a smile.
"Yes, comrades-in-arms!" Wang Xinyan smiled too. That was right—she and he were comrades-in-arms, so what was there to be so particular about...
Wei Zhao got out of the car and nodded to the young miss and Xiaoshu. "All right, shall we go?"
"Sure. Uncle Qing says he's surveying the market here in Donghai—Father wants to expand the family business to this side, so that not only can the Gu Group grow, but he can also see us often," Gu Mengyao said. "Uncle Qing says to give him a call once we're home, and he'll come over."
"Then let's go back and wait for him now. Oh, right—did you tell Grandma Sun? Have her prepare some food, and we'll eat at home tonight," Wei Zhao said.
"I've already told Grandma Sun. She's probably started preparing by now," Gu Mengyao said. "By the way, Wei Zhao, why are you still wearing your military training clothes?"
"Oh, my other set got dirty and I didn't have time to wash it, so I didn't change," Wei Zhao said.
Gu Mengyao nodded and said nothing more. The three of them got into the car, and Wei Zhao drove back to Xueshang Residential Community. Sure enough, once they reached the villa, Grandma Sun was bustling about in the kitchen, and wave after wave of mouthwatering aroma drifted out, making one's mouth water.
"Grandma Sun is really amazing—her cooking beats the chefs at those hotels!" Gu Mengyao thought having Grandma Sun come here as housekeeper was truly a joy.
Wei Zhao nodded. This puzzled him too: Grandma Sun, a ragpicker who scavenged through garbage, should possess such skill—that was truly strange. But the key thing was that Grandma Sun's memory of the past was fuzzy; she could not recall her former life, and Wei Zhao knew nothing at all about her background.
One thing was certain, though: all the signs indicated that Grandma Sun must have been someone with a story. He just did not know what had caused her amnesia. Yet even without her memories, her skill at cooking had not been lost—it was probably pure instinct.
Of course, Wei Zhao had never deliberately questioned Grandma Sun about her past, nor tried to help her recover her memories. Everyone has secrets and sorrows of their own, and he did not want to pry—what if it was a memory Grandma Sun would rather not recall?
Shaking his head, Wei Zhao dialed Uncle Qing's number.
"Xiao Yi, are you all back already?" Uncle Qing's voice came through the line.
"Uncle Qing, we're back—at the villa in Xueshang Residential Community," Wei Zhao said. "Where are you?"
"I've looked at the locations of several office towers that are up for sale and taken some photos. I'm going to bring them back to discuss with Mr. Gu, to see which one would suit a branch office in Donghai," Uncle Qing said. "I'm just about done now. I'll head over!"
"All right, just come to the villa area of Xueshang Residential Community. My Grand Cherokee is parked outside the villa—that's the one," Wei Zhao said.
"Got it, I'll be right there," Uncle Qing said.
After hanging up, Grandma Sun happened to carry out a plate of red oil saliva chicken and set it on the dining table—a feast for the eyes as well as the nose and palate, enough to make anyone's mouth water at a glance.
"Mr. Lin, Miss Gu, when will the guest arrive? There are a few more hot dishes—they're best eaten while hot," Grandma Sun asked.
"He'll be here soon. He's not really a guest—just family. He's the housekeeper from Songshan City. Grandma Sun, I mentioned him to you," Wei Zhao said.
"Ah!" Hearing that Uncle Qing was coming, Grandma Sun's face flushed at once, and she grew flustered. "This... he's coming already?"
To her, Wei Zhao had only mentioned it offhand last time, and she had forgotten all about it after a few days. She had never expected Wei Zhao to bring it up again, and now she did not know what to do with herself—she was not ready at all!
"Heh, it's just a meeting, nothing more to it. Get acquainted first—you're both housekeepers, after all, so you're bound to get to know each other," Wei Zhao said.
"That's right, Grandma Sun. Uncle Qing is actually a very good man," Gu Mengyao chimed in.
In truth, if Uncle Qing and Grandma Sun really did end up together, it would be a good thing no matter how one looked at it—not only would Uncle Qing no longer be lonely, but Grandma Sun would have a companion too. And they were all family besides, so there was no fear of any trouble.
