Chapter 1957 — Not Such a Good Idea?
At this point a flicker of cunning darted through Yu Xiaoke's eyes. If she could get her hands on the Man-Robber's contact details, she would be able to call her all the time from then on.
"I..." Wei Zhao had meant to give her his phone number, but on second thought, the number was registered under his own ID. If Yu Xiaoke went and looked it up, wouldn't she find out who he was? So Wei Zhao said, "How about this — I'll come by again in a little while."
"Oh... all right then..." Yu Xiaoke was a little disappointed, but the Man-Robber had promised to come again, and that was more times better than the earlier talk of never meeting again.
"I'll be going, then." Wei Zhao caught the reluctance in Yu Xiaoke's eyes and could not help sighing inwardly.
"Mm..." Yu Xiaoke nodded.
Wei Zhao turned and walked toward the door of the room.
"Man-Robber..." Yu Xiaoke could not help calling out to him again.
"What is it?" Wei Zhao looked back.
"I... I like you!" Yu Xiaoke had said those words countless times in her dreams. She had already confessed her feelings to Wei Zhao before, but seeing him again now, she could not help saying it once more.
Wei Zhao's steps paused ever so slightly. He said nothing, only shook his head, and once more left the room at a brisk pace, vanishing without a trace in the space of a breath...
And Yu Xiaoke gazed at the retreating figure where Wei Zhao had vanished, staring blankly, lost in a daze...
Asking Yu Xiaoke to help him search for those few items was, in truth, a last resort for Wei Zhao. Those three things were simply too precious. Fat Lai had been making inquiries on his behalf all along, yet not a single lead had turned up. Blue crystal was a thing one could not seek and only chance upon; as for the pure yellow jade, there was no telling whether any trace of it remained; and of the colored steel there was no word at all. So Wei Zhao could only hold on to the hope of giving it a try and let Yu Xiaoke help.
After leaving the orphanage, Wei Zhao returned to his car, took off the mask, and dialed Sun Jingyan's number directly.
"Jingyi, where are you? I'm in Songshan City right now," Wei Zhao said.
"Ah, you're already here? I'm at home. Name a place and I'll be right over," Sun Jingyan said.
"Let's just go to your place. There are some things that aren't convenient to do in public," Wei Zhao said.
"Huh?" Sun Jingyan was taken aback, and her face flushed red at once. Some things that aren't convenient to do in public? What did that mean? Could Wei Zhao be thinking of...
At that thought, Sun Jingyan's face grew hot despite herself. Surely Wei Zhao wasn't about to exercise his rights as her lover?
"Mm... have Wu Chengtian come along too," Wei Zhao said, unable to see Sun Jingyan's expression and naturally unaware of what she was thinking.
"What? Wu Chengtian too?" Sun Jingyan was even more dumbfounded. What did Wei Zhao want with Wu Chengtian? Surely he didn't want the three of them to play together? Thinking back to what Feng Xiaoxiao had told her about wanting to have a threesome with Wei Zhao, could it be that Wei Zhao had gotten a taste for it and really meant to go through with it?
But even so... giving herself to Wei Zhao was one thing, but with Wu Chengtian in the mix — wasn't that just asking her to die?
"Yes, what's wrong?" Wei Zhao was slightly startled; he too had noticed that something in Sun Jingyan's tone was off.
"Bringing Wu Chengtian... isn't that a bit much..." Though Sun Jingyan cut the figure of a formidable career woman out in the world, before Wei Zhao at this moment she was a little slow on the uptake.
"A bit much? You're right..." Wei Zhao thought it over. He was going to ask Sun Jingyan about her internal-energy cultivation method; although Wu Chengtian was no outsider, it was still somewhat inconvenient. So Wei Zhao nodded and said, "All right, then we won't call him."
"Phew..." Sun Jingyan let out a breath of relief.
Hm? That's not right! It suddenly struck Wei Zhao that he had never told Sun Jingyan what he wanted to see her about. How could she possibly have known in advance? Then what had her words just now meant?
At that thought, Wei Zhao asked, his expression strange, "Jingyi, what did you mean by telling me not to call Wu Chengtian?"
"You... weren't you looking for me for that...? I'm not even ready myself — what would you want to bring Wu Chengtian for? I... I'm not that kind of loose woman!" Hearing that Wei Zhao seemed to be leaning toward calling Wu Chengtian after all, Sun Jingyan grew anxious at once.
This misunderstanding between the two of them arose simply because neither could see the other. Had Wei Zhao been able to see Sun Jingyan, he would most likely have guessed what she had misunderstood; and had Sun Jingyan been able to see Wei Zhao's strange expression just now, she would have realized she had misread him.
But as it happened, neither could see the other's face, and they could only guess at each other's meaning from the words spoken. And so this farce snowballed, until Sun Jingyan's anger finally burst out!
Yes, Wei Zhao was formidable, and she admitted to herself that she was drawn to him — but being drawn to someone did not mean she could just debase herself at will, did it? With him... she might not be entirely prepared, but in her heart she was willing. With Wu Chengtian, though? She would sooner kill herself outright!
"Huh?" Hearing Sun Jingyan's sudden outburst, Wei Zhao was at a loss for a moment. But by now he had finally understood what her misunderstanding was, and he was caught between laughter and tears: "Jingyi... how does being loose come into this at all? I came to see you because I wanted to ask about your Sun family's **cultivation method, and as for bringing Wu Chengtian, I wanted to discuss with the two of you what to do from here on. It was only afterward that I thought — Wu Chengtian may be no outsider, but where your cultivation method is concerned, it's better to keep things a bit more confidential, so I decided not to call him... Have you misunderstood something?"
"Ah! I..." Sun Jingyan's face burned even redder, and she wished she could crawl into a crack in the floor. No, really? She had misunderstood? And misunderstood so completely? How utterly mortifying! Fortunately, she knew Wei Zhao could not see her expression, so she coughed twice and said, "I didn't misunderstand anything. What I meant was... no one else has ever been to my boudoir... right, only the person I like is allowed in... so Wu Chengtian can't come... yes, that's exactly it..."
Listening to Sun Jingyan's incoherent explanation, Wei Zhao did not make a point of calling her out on it. The more he thought about it, the funnier it seemed — Sun Jingyan had actually thought he wanted to bring Wu Chengtian along to do that with her. Did he really seem that shameless and depraved?
"All right, all right. Then may I come?" Wei Zhao asked.
"You're my... half a lover, so no one else may come — you're the exception. You can come, just barely," Sun Jingyan said, a little embarrassed. She had not directly admitted that Wei Zhao was the one she liked, but it was a roundabout way of conceding it all the same.
