Chapter 1992 — Rehearsal
Shortly after Wei Zhao hung up the phone, Xu Shilan came out as well, walking out together with Cheng Yiyi.
"Wei Zhao, let's head to school for the rehearsal now—don't waste any time. Yiyi's coming along too," Xu Shilan said, waving at him.
"Alright." Wei Zhao walked over quickly.
At that moment Zhang Duopan also emerged from his room. Unexpectedly, Fan Ganhe was inside his room as well, clearly having just arrived—Wei Zhao hadn't seen him before.
Zhang Duopan was already irritated at the sight of Wei Zhao, but Fan Ganhe was clearly even more annoyed. Since he liked Wang Xinyan, he naturally had no friendly face to offer Wei Zhao. In Fan Ganhe's eyes, Wei Zhao was a textbook dog-in-the-manger—a bastard who claimed day in and day out that he had nothing to do with Wang Xinyan, yet the two of them were as close as could be whenever they went out. Wasn't that simply hogging the resource?
"Well, if it isn't Wei Zhao? Why didn't you bring Wang Xinyan along? Don't tell me you want to be alone with the big star and don't want anyone around?" Fan Ganhe couldn't resist taking a jab at Wei Zhao the moment he saw him.
"Oh." Wei Zhao grunted in reply, without even glancing at him.
"Damn it!" Fan Ganhe was seething. This was a barefaced snub, pure and simple. When you trade insults with someone, you don't fear the other party firing back at you; what you fear is the other party simply refusing to acknowledge you at all—all your effort wasted for nothing.
He wanted to say more, but Wei Zhao was already walking toward the elevator with Xu Shilan. Fan Ganhe gnashed his teeth in rage, yet there was nothing he could do.
"Forget it, Ganhe. There'll be plenty of chances to put this kid in his place. This weekend I'm planning to invite He Meiyue and her roommates to Tiger Park. When the time comes, we'll come up with some tricks to embarrass them," Zhang Duopan said with a cold laugh.
He had already lost any hope of victory at the freshman party, but he had no intention of giving up on He Meiyue. So after the loss, he had to move on to the next step of his plan.
"Alright, whatever you say, Brother Zhang. We'll think of a few ways to mess with them then!" Fan Ganhe nodded.
In the classroom of the pharmaceutical program in the biology department building, the students were all hard at work rehearsing the moves from the music video, while Wei Zhao walked in with Xu Shilan, who was disguised to the teeth.
Xu Shilan's arrival drew little notice, because no one was paying attention to the door—they were all completely absorbed in their rehearsal.
Seeing how serious everyone was, Xu Shilan felt a little surprised. She had originally assumed that directing a group of non-professional students to recreate a music video's scenes would be an extremely difficult task, but judging by what she saw, quite a few of them were already doing a decent job.
"Hehe... hello, everyone!" Seeing that someone had recognized her, Xu Shilan smiled and waved at Bai Weituo.
At the sound of that heavenly voice, every male student in the middle of rehearsal froze mid-motion. Seeing the person at the door, they couldn't help but gape in astonishment! Someone let out a cheer first: "Xu Shilan—it's Xu Shilan!"
"Ah, Xu Shilan is here, it really is Xu Shilan!"
"Xu Shilan, I love you so much..."
Wei Zhao broke out in a cold sweat and hurriedly locked the classroom door. If students from other classes found out, forget about rehearsing—everyone would come to gawk at the celebrity!
"Everyone, settle down. With such loud voices, you're bound to be heard by students in other classes. If that happens, I'm afraid we won't be able to rehearse at all!" Xu Shilan smiled slightly and made a shushing gesture at everyone.
And sure enough, a big star's pull was no joke—with just one gesture, the once boisterous classroom fell silent in an instant.
"Hello, Xu Shilan. I'm Bai Weituo, class monitor of the pharmaceutical program, and one of Brother Lin's boys!" Bai Weituo ran up to Xu Shilan and introduced himself.
"Hehe, hello! Since you're the class monitor, why don't you tell me how your rehearsal is going? To save time, I'll first take a look at your progress, and then we'll decide on the next arrangements—sound good?" Having heard that Bai Weituo was Wei Zhao's boy, Xu Shilan treated him with great warmth, which made Bai Weituo feel immensely flattered.
Xu Shilan didn't put on any celebrity airs at all, which amazed the students present. They hadn't expected Wei Zhao to be so capable—not only had he managed to invite Xu Shilan, but she was also perfectly polite and very amiable.
Even You Panhu was green with envy, grumbling inwardly: What on earth was Wei Zhao capable of, that even Xu Shilan held him in such high regard?
"Alright, alright, I'll tell you right away..." Bai Weituo nodded hastily.
Wei Zhao, however, didn't stay to listen to Bai Weituo's introduction. He simply returned to his own seat. The rehearsal had nothing to do with him, and Wei Zhao didn't care.
"You don't seem to chase after stars?" Wei Zhao looked at Wang Xinyan in slight surprise, finding that every time he saw her, she was always so serene—as still and clear as a pool of water, without the slightest ripple of emotion.
From the moment Wei Zhao entered the classroom, Wang Xinyan had been flipping through the textbook in front of her. Even when Wei Zhao walked over and sat down, she merely looked up and gave him a gentle smile, then returned to her book.
"I really like her songs—most of the tracks on my MP3 player are hers. But as for chasing stars..." Wang Xinyan shook her head with a hint of regret. "Even though I'd like to, I don't have that much time to waste. In the limited time I have, I'd rather savor my university life to the fullest..."
"Limited time?" Wei Zhao was briefly taken aback. He immediately thought of her engagement to Kang Zhaolong. He opened his mouth as if to say something, then closed it again—after all, in what capacity could he possibly tell Wang Xinyan to refuse the engagement with the Kang family?
"Some things, you fight against them. When there's no way to fight anymore, all you can do is accept your fate." Wang Xinyan's expression seemed quite composed, but Wei Zhao knew that few people could truly be composed about such a matter.
Wei Zhao simply didn't know how to put it into words, so he could only take things one step at a time. If he could make the Kang family collapse as soon as possible, perhaps Wang Xinyan would be freed of much of her burden.
To Wei Zhao's surprise, Han Jingyi was also bent over her desk, studying something—scribbling and sketching away. The notebook before her was already covered with a large mass of data and formulas that made Wei Zhao's head spin.
