Chapter 2006 — No Need to Look for Excuses

The Blossom Guardian

Wei Zhao also had Feng Tianlong send over the photos of the earlier men in black whose faces had not been destroyed, and once he received them, he handed his phone to Feng Sanhuang to look at.

"Don't recognize them..." Feng Sanhuang studied the photos for a long while, and at last shook his head. "I don't know any of these men. All unfamiliar faces."

Wei Zhao was not in the least surprised by Feng Sanhuang's answer. After all, if these men dared to appear without masks, they clearly had no fear of being recognized or investigated—they were small fry, so this was only to be expected.

"Never mind. We'll wait for Uncle Feng and the others," Wei Zhao said.

Before long, a car with special plates pulled quietly onto the pedestrian street. Quiet as it was, a car appearing on a pedestrian street was still jarring, but there was no help for it—to haul away corpses, they could hardly have men come and carry them off on foot.

The car stopped at the mouth of the alley, and Feng Tianlong stepped out with several men in black. He had been in Donghai City these past few days handling the drug-trafficking case, so he had arrived quickly.

"Uncle Feng!" Wei Zhao went to meet him.

"Xiao Yi, things have been hectic these past few days—we'll have a meal together another time. I'll take these two bodies away first, and I'll notify you the moment there's any news..." Feng Tianlong said this, though in his heart he knew full well that the investigation would likely come to nothing.

It had been so long, and still no family or sect had come forward to claim these bodies—plainly they had no intention of doing so. And from the way the heads had been destroyed, it was clear these men had never wanted anyone to learn their identities.

"Understood, Uncle Feng!" Wei Zhao nodded.

Feng Tianlong swiftly directed two fully armed men to load the two corpses, coated in corpse-dissolving powder, into the car, and then the vehicle drove straight away from the scene.

By now Xu Shilan and Cheng Yiyi had lost all desire to keep shopping. After an incident this grave, both wanted only to hurry back to their rooms and rest.

Xu Shilan meant to return to the hotel, but Wei Zhao would not agree; instead he invited her to spend the night at his villa. After all, he feared something else might happen that night—who could say whether the other side might send more skilled hands to make trouble?

Xu Shilan had not wanted to impose on Wei Zhao further, but Feng Sanhuang spoke up: "In that case, we'll have to trouble Brother Lin. For a kindness so great, words of thanks are not enough!"

Hearing Feng Sanhuang, Xu Shilan was caught between laughter and tears—she had not even agreed yet, and Feng Sanhuang was more anxious than she was, answering for her before she could. There was no way for her to refuse now, so she could only nod and say, "All right. It happens that I've been missing Yaoyao and Xiaoshu too, so I'll go and see them."

Wei Zhao was covered in blood from head to toe, so the four of them made their way back to the parking lot under many astonished stares. No one dared come up and ask questions; Xu Shilan and Cheng Yiyi wore large sunglasses, and Feng Sanhuang looked cool and forbidding, so many took the four for underworld figures and no one dared provoke them.

Feng Sanhuang drove Wei Zhao and Xu Shilan back to the villa in the Xueshang residential compound, while he himself took Cheng Yiyi back to the Xueshang Hotel.

Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu opened the door, saw Xu Shilan first, and were at once startled and delighted.

"Shihan, Xiaoshu and I have both missed you!" Gu Mengyao warmly ushered Xu Shilan inside, but when her gaze fell on Wei Zhao, her whole body gave a violent start. "Wei Zhao, what happened to you?"

"Nothing much—I got into a fight with a thug and picked up a bit of blood." Not wanting Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu to worry, Wei Zhao spoke lightly and calmly, as though it were a trifling matter. "Are you really all right?" Gu Mengyao blinked and looked him up and down with some doubt. After all, Wei Zhao was in a rather sorry state—his clothes were torn in several places and covered in black blood, and even his face and the corners of his mouth were streaked with it, which could not but make her suspect that he had suffered severe internal injuries and was simply reluctant to say so.

"I'm really fine," Wei Zhao nodded.

"Let Detective Shu examine you, then." Shen Yushu ran over and began feeling Wei Zhao all over—left and right, front and back.

"Ahem... Xiaoshu, if you want to take advantage of Wei Zhao, just say so. There's no need to use a physical examination as an excuse, all right? That's the sort of trick only a creepy old man would use." Gu Mengyao was speechless at Shen Yushu's behavior.

"Wow, Chewing Gum Bro's muscles seem to have gotten even more toned. Per Detective Shu 007's examination, Chewing Gum Bro is completely intact... oh, that should be the upper body. The lower body hasn't been examined yet." Shen Yushu looked curiously at Wei Zhao's lower half as she spoke.

"That's enough, Xiaoshu, no more examinations! Shihan is here—can you act a little normal?" Gu Mengyao was at a loss for words, though seeing that Wei Zhao really was fine, she set her mind at ease.

"I am being normal?" Shen Yushu said, puzzled.

"Heh..." Xu Shilan laughed too. Shen Yushu was always like this; the things she did were always a little unexpected.

"You two enjoy yourselves—I'm going to take a shower." With that, Wei Zhao rose and headed for his room. Not only was he covered in blood, but having just broken through, he was slick with sweat and grime, and he felt uncomfortable. "Then I'll go straight to sleep. You should rest early too—Xiaohan still has to help me rehearse tomorrow."

"All right." Xu Shilan smiled and nodded to Wei Zhao, her eyes full of tenderness and admiration.

Shen Yushu looked at Wei Zhao's retreating back, then at Xu Shilan, her expression a little odd. "That's not right. Seems like there's some hanky-panky going on. Shihan, something's off between you and Chewing Gum Bro!"

"W-what's off?" Xu Shilan had been recalling how Wei Zhao had risen again and again to stand and charge forward, and being suddenly questioned by Shen Yushu, her face flushed at once and she began to stammer.

Gu Mengyao was about to scold Xiaoshu for talking nonsense—how could Xu Shilan, a great star, possibly have anything going on with Wei Zhao? But seeing Xu Shilan's flustered expression now, she too grew puzzled. Could something really have happened between those two?

So the words at the tip of her tongue went unspoken, and she only looked at Xu Shilan with doubt.

"Oh, there really is hanky-panky. Shihan, what did you and Chewing Gum Bro go off to do just now? Don't tell me you've already pushed Chewing Gum Bro down?" Shen Yushu looked at Xu Shilan, a sly gleam in her eyes.

"Huh? How could that be?" Xu Shilan said without thinking.

"Then what happened to you two? Why does it feel like something's off?" Shen Yushu pressed on.
