Chapter 2035 — Terribly Poor
"Isn't this just an electric heated curling iron?" Wei Zhao looked at the two girls with an air of injured innocence, then said, "Actually, I meant for Zhang Duopan to take it home and curl his hair with it... though curling his girlfriend's hair would be fine too... All right, I am going back to cultivate. You two get some rest early."
"Huh?" Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu stared at Wei Zhao's back as he headed straight off, at a loss for words. Did Wei Zhao really not know? Or did he simply not want the atmosphere to stay awkward any longer...
In truth, it had never once crossed Wei Zhao's mind that the young mistress and Xiaoshu would use something so domineering; he assumed Shen Yushu had bought it out of curiosity, or to set some other girl up.
Be that as it may, Gu Mengyao finally breathed a sigh of relief. She turned to look at Shen Yushu and said, "Look what you have done!"
"Did I not do well?" Shen Yushu blinked.
"Oh, well indeed—so well I could die of it. Hmph, just you wait and see how I deal with you tonight!" Gu Mengyao glared at her.
Back in his room, Wei Zhao tossed the electric xx wand onto the shelf and began trying to cultivate the fire-condensing method Bai Lingtou had given him.
When he had handed those materials to Han Jingyi earlier, Wei Zhao had already memorized the oral formula for condensing alchemical fire, so now he could cultivate straight from the method itself.
Except that half an hour later, Wei Zhao decisively gave up!
Before, following the fire-condensing formula Zhang Liju had given him, Wei Zhao had at least been able to condense alchemical fire; but by Bai Lingtou's formula he could not condense so much as a spark, let alone alchemical fire!
There was not even the faintest hint of a trend—which left Wei Zhao utterly speechless.
Was his aptitude really that poor? It was poor to the point of being outrageous! Or was it that this method simply did not suit him?
Right, it must not suit him! Wei Zhao consoled himself silently...
Setting the matter of alchemical fire aside, Wei Zhao could only pin his hopes on Han Jingyi, hoping the girl might bring him some unexpected surprise!
For now Wei Zhao could only press on with the second level of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art and raise his own strength as quickly as possible. Sometimes, absolute strength was itself a trump card.
Time always slips away unnoticed. In the blink of an eye, several days had passed, and it was the weekend again.
These past days, apart from going to school and coming back each day with the young mistress, Xiaoshu, Han Jingyi and Han Xiaochao, nothing special had happened. Calm, leisurely university life seemed to be just like this.
Han Jingyi still pored over her tablet every day, but no longer writing and drawing; instead she would read for a while, then close her eyes and sit in thought. Wei Zhao knew, though, that she was not pondering—she was cultivating the auxiliary method.
What startled Wei Zhao was that faint fluctuations of heaven-and-earth spiritual qi had gradually begun to gather around Han Jingyi—the precursor of setting foot on the path of cultivation and becoming a cultivator!
How many people wandered their whole lives before the threshold, never finding their way; yet Han Jingyi had achieved some small success in mere days.
True, being able to cultivate the auxiliary method did not mean she would necessarily succeed in condensing alchemical fire, and even if she did, she might, like Wei Zhao, prove unable to regulate and control the fire's force and temperature. So Han Jingyi could only be counted a beginner among beginners!
Moreover, the alchemist's auxiliary method was the simplest of all cultivation formulas, simpler than any other method, meant only to assist in condensing alchemical fire. Even so, for Han Jingyi to have gotten the auxiliary method down in such a short time made her a genius among geniuses!
Still, that fluctuation of spiritual qi was exceedingly faint, so only Wei Zhao, standing close by, could sense it; Bai Lingtou up at the podium could not.
This was the true beginning of cultivation! The situation both startled and delighted Wei Zhao. Could Han Jingyi really be a genius?
Early in the morning, Wei Zhao drove the Grand Cherokee to school with Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.
After parking in the lot, Wei Zhao quietly waited for the others.
Before long, Bai Weituo, Zhao Shengji, Song Xiaodao, Zhang Duopan and Fan Ganhe came walking over from the direction of the men's dormitory.
"Brother Lin, you are here so early? Have we kept you waiting?" Bai Weituo greeted Wei Zhao.
"We just arrived too," Wei Zhao said. "Where are He Meiyue and the others?"
"They are in the dorm, coming out any moment now." As he spoke, Bai Weituo carefully glanced inside Wei Zhao's car and, sure enough, saw Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu; wisely, he said nothing more about Wang Xinyan.
"In a bit, you few can ride in Wei Zhao's car, and Meiyue and the others can ride in mine!" Zhang Duopan said. "You three big men squeezed into the back of my car is really too cramped. Wei Zhao's is a seven-seater, no problem there!"
"The back seats of Wei Zhao's car are folded down, loaded with water and such—it cannot fit three people. Later, Meiyue and I will take a taxi, and let Wang Xinyan and Chai Xiaoling ride in Wei Zhao's car; Zhao Shengji and Song Xiaodao can ride in yours," Bai Weituo said.
"What? You and Meiyue take a taxi? We have cars right here—why would we take a taxi!" Zhang Duopan objected at once. "Besides, if anyone takes a taxi it should be you men. How can we let the girls take one?"
"Ha, no need for a taxi. Wang Xinyan has her own car. In a bit, you three can ride in Zhang Duopan's car, and Wang Xinyan and the others can drive themselves." Wei Zhao glanced at the red sports car not far off and spoke to Zhang Duopan.
"Drive themselves?" Zhang Duopan was stunned, looking at Wei Zhao in bewilderment. "What car would they drive? Where would they even get a car?"
Just then Wang Xinyan, Chai Xiaoling and He Meiyue arrived, and happened to catch the exchange between Wei Zhao and Zhang Duopan. Wang Xinyan had not wanted to drive herself—she was not one to show off—but since Wei Zhao had said so, she had no choice but to take out her keys and press the remote.
The lights of the red Porsche not far away flashed twice.
Zhang Duopan's eyes went wide, his face that of a man who had seen a monster, while Fan Ganhe found it even more unbelievable!
Wang Xinyan actually had a car—and a Porsche sports car at that? How rich must her family be to afford a sports car? He, Zhang Duopan, could afford one too, but Zhang Jufeng had not indulged him so much back in high school; only in university, with the excuse of chasing girls, had he come by a bit of money.
