Chapter 2270 — The Pi Family Sends Word Too

The Blossom Guardian

As for Wu Chendi, Wu Gonggao no longer suppressed him the way he once had. The boy was not his grandson by blood, but a grandnephew of sorts—and that was precisely why he had been unwilling to cultivate him in the first place. Wu Chendi's father was not Wu Gonggao's own son at all, but the adopted son of Wu Gonggao's younger brother. The younger brother had died young, and few knew of it—not even Wu Chengtian, nor Wu Chendi's own father.

Now Wu Gonggao had come to understand. This stage called the Wu family was far too small. To Wu Chengtian it could only ever be a home, a roost to return to now and then, while his true aim was to follow Wei Zhao all the way to the very summit of the martial way...

Perhaps one day, to contend for the Heaven Rank—even for that realm said to lie beyond Heaven Rank—would be no dream at all.

But that dream had been shattered the moment Wu Gonggao saw the state his grandson was in... Gazing at Wu Chengtian, bruised all over and unable to stir from the bed, Wu Gonggao was seized by shock and dread alike. His grandson was already an early Earth-Rank expert, an early Earth-Rank who cultivated both inner and outer arts—by rights, no inner or outer expert of the same rank should have been able to wound him. Yet wounded he was. What did that mean?

It meant the enemy's power had grown to a height Wu Gonggao could only look up at.

"Chendi, what on earth happened? How did it come to this?" The joy with which Wu Gonggao had arrived turned to nothing in an instant. He asked, urgently.

"Grandfather... I am fine." Wu Chengtian smiled bitterly. He had not expected his grandfather to come now of all times—the timing really was a little unfortunate. He had meant to share his joy with the old man, and instead it had become a sharing of pain. "The enemy did not come for me or for the leader. It is a complicated business. But the leader is back, so I will be fine. A few wounds like these are nothing."

"Oh?" Wu Gonggao was briefly taken aback—but then he recalled how gravely Wu Chengtian had been hurt last time, and how he had still turned up hale and hearty at the Great House Assembly. Clearly Wei Zhao had his ways. At that thought Wu Gonggao's expression eased considerably. "If the enemy did not come for the two of you, then what was it about?"

Wu Chengtian was about to explain in detail when Grandma Sun knocked and came in. "Mr. Wu, outside the villa there are two people, an old man and a young one, who say they come from the hidden Pi family and ask to see you. Shall I?"

"Ah! Ask them in at once—bring them straight to my room!" Wu Chengtian said hurriedly.

Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had already gone off to school. Wang Xinyan had been kidnapped, but life had to go on; at home Wu Chengtian kept watch, waiting for the hidden Pi family to arrive. There was no use in the two women staying.

As for Wei Zhao, he was still unreachable; the phone gave out only the same cold message that the number could not be connected at present.

"The villa is not the same one, but what happened last time, at the villa of Wei Zhao's leadership, is still fresh in my memory!" Pi Zhishan sighed. "In the blink of an eye, I never thought I would become a follower of Wei Zhao's leadership myself... In truth, back then our hidden Pi family should have made our decision."

Thinking of that follower of Wei Zhao's called Er Goudan, who had slain Jin Wudi with a single punch, Pi Zhishan was overcome with feeling. Wu Chengtian had decided on the spot back then and straightaway acknowledged Er Goudan as his leader, and so indirectly become Wei Zhao's follower—while the Pi family had lagged a full several months behind.

"Perhaps even now it is not too late," Old Master Pi said with a grave nod. The Pi family had always conducted itself with caution and circumspection. That Old Master Pi should personally bring Pi Zhishan to the secular world to aid Wei Zhao marked an unprecedented step in the Pi family's history.

Though the Hidden House Arbitration Association now existed in name only, and most of the hidden houses were stirring, sending their experts into the secular world to make trouble, no Heaven-Rank expert truly dared set foot in the secular world at will—there were, after all, the ancient-level constraints above to reckon with.

Yet the Pi family had not come this time to make trouble or stir up waves or pick quarrels with others. They had come to save someone. The Divine Fist Hall above the Pi family would not blame them, he believed, even if it learned of it—and more than that, by coming out this time the Pi family had staked its fortune on Wei Zhao. From now on, honor shared and ruin shared.

If the ancient sects came looking for trouble, it was Wei Zhao's trouble they would come looking for. With Wei Zhao as the great tree to shelter them, the Pi family could only be counted minor players. And what of the ancient level? The Tomorrow Upon Tomorrow Sect and the ancient Feng family—two disciples crippled, and where were they now? Had they not swallowed a silent loss?

"The two of you, Mr. Wu will see you!" Grandma Sun stepped out of the villa and said to Old Master Pi and Pi Zhishan, who stood deep in thought.

"Many thanks!" Old Master Pi and Pi Zhihai followed Grandma Sun into Wu Chengtian's room. Though Grandma Sun was only a housekeeper, Old Master Pi was courtesy itself, not failing in the least in propriety.

"Brother Wu..." Though he had expected it, Pi Zhishan was still startled when he saw Wu Chengtian's condition. Wu Chengtian was an early Earth-Rank expert too, of strength comparable to his own—and to be beaten into this state meant the enemy's power was formidable indeed.

"You must think me a sorry sight—our first meeting, and under such circumstances." Wu Chengtian smiled bitterly and said, "But you need not worry on my account. Once the leader returns, I will be as good as new. Let me introduce you—this is my grandfather."

Since Pi Zhishan had come, Wu Chengtian treated him as one of their own and held nothing back. In truth, he also feared that Old Master Pi might otherwise hesitate, look before and behind, and not dare give his full strength.

And by saying this, Wu Chengtian was in fact hinting to Old Master Pi that it did not matter even if he was wounded—so long as he did not die, Wei Zhao could heal him.

"Oh?" A strange light flickered in Old Master Pi's eyes. Then certain things came to mind, and his confidence in this choice grew considerably.

Though Old Master Pi was a man of the hidden level, he knew a good deal about Wei Zhao—especially having once been his adversary. He had noticed a very curious phenomenon before: Wei Zhao had plainly been crippled, plainly past saving, yet every time he had recovered as if by miracle, his strength not diminished but increased.

And it was the same with those around Wei Zhao. Take this Wu Chengtian—crippled several times over, and yet here he was, an early Earth-Rank expert, and from the look on his face he truly did not mind.
