Chapter 2278 — So That Was It

The Blossom Guardian

Still, it was hardly surprising—its son had gone missing, and after so many days of searching without a trace, the Thunder Pig Wei Zhao had brought along had found it. How could it not be overcome with excitement and joy?

"It's good that it was found." Wei Zhao nodded and said, "So, may we leave now?"

"Of course you may, at any time!" the Heaven-tier Spider said. "But to express our gratitude, please give us the chance to host you—let our Spider Clan banquet you all warmly and present you with some rare treasures of heaven and earth!"

"The banquet won't be necessary. We don't wish to linger in the mountains. If possible, we'd rather leave as soon as we can..." Wei Zhao waved his hand. He had little interest in the Spider Clan's hospitality, though the rare treasures did stir his interest somewhat.

"I doubt the few of you are in any great hurry, are you? Besides, you don't want to take the main road down the mountains—you mean to descend by another route. In that, our Spider Clan can still be of help!" the Heaven-tier Spider said. "Apart from that main road, every other route down the mountains is desperately dangerous. One careless step, and you may find a grave you'll never be buried in!"

"Oh?" Wei Zhao frowned and looked at the Heaven-tier Spider. "So you have a good way?"

"Indeed. We know the terrain of the Wulonghaote Mountains very well! Apart from the main road, there is only one path down the mountain, but it is very hard to find! Only our Spider Clan knows this route. We can draw you a rough map. With our map, you'll avoid some detours and some needless danger!" the Heaven-tier Spider explained. "I can't promise a smooth descent, but at the very least it will reduce the risk to a minimum!"

"In that case, I'll trouble you!" Seeing how warm the Heaven-tier Spider was, Wei Zhao found it hard to refuse—especially that last offer. If they had a map, it would genuinely save him trouble, and when he and Sun Jingyan descended, they would avoid some dangers.

Only, at that moment, several spider subordinates who had been examining the little spider's injuries finished their check. With worried chirps and murmurs, they said a few words to the Heaven-tier Spider, and its expression immediately turned grim.

"What is it?" Wei Zhao could not understand the language of these spider subordinates.

"My son's leg wound is severe. He may never recover..." The Heaven-tier Spider sighed and said, "But this is already very good. At least we found him and brought him back. I am already satisfied. If he had fallen into the hands of the Fire Lion Clan, who knows what would have become of him."

"I... may have a way..." Wei Zhao hesitated, then said.

After all, the Heaven-tier Spider did not seem so hard to get along with, and it was going to give Wei Zhao rare treasures and a route map. That made Wei Zhao wonder—should he repay them somehow? After all, he had been the one who barged into their territory in the first place; he could hardly blame them for capturing him.

"What? You have a way?" The Heaven-tier Spider was taken aback and looked at Wei Zhao with some disbelief. "The injuries of spirit beasts are different from those of human cultivators. They cannot be healed simply by taking pills. Pills are useful to human cultivators, but for us spirit beasts, their effect is negligible!"

"Of course not pills," Wei Zhao said. "Let me do it."

With that, Wei Zhao walked toward the little spider.

The spider subordinates watched Wei Zhao approach with some wariness, but seeing that the Heaven-tier Spider did not call out to stop him, they naturally did not interfere either.

Wei Zhao came to a stop before the little spider, placed his hand on its body, and circulated the second layer of the Xuanyuan Dragon Taming Art.

The little spider naturally knew that Wei Zhao was one of those who had helped find it, so it did not resist. It merely listened to Wei Zhao's words, some doubt in its heart—but the next moment, a warm current surged from Wei Zhao's palm into its body, astonishing the little spider greatly!

And its injuries, at a speed it could actually feel, were recovering as if by magic... truly recovering!

The Heaven-tier Spider was no fool either. Seeing its son's injuries healing, the way it looked at Wei Zhao grew even more admiring and grateful... This human cultivator really was different from the rest!

As for Sun Jingyan and the Thunder Pig, they wore calm expressions—especially the Thunder Pig. Though its strength was no match for the Heaven-tier Spider and it dared not openly provoke it, it still eyed the creature with a look of great smugness.

"Done." Wei Zhao stood up briskly and said.

"It's done just like that?" The Heaven-tier Spider stared wide-eyed. It had seen the little spider's injuries improving, but surely they could not be healed this fast? Wasn't this speed a little too astonishing?

But Wei Zhao did not answer; the little spider's actions answered for him. The little spider could now move and walk normally, and it looked as though it had never been injured at all.

"Thank you, human cultivator!" The Heaven-tier Spider had been grateful to Wei Zhao before, but that did not mean it had harbored no misgivings at all! Wei Zhao's friendship with the Fire Lion Clan had made it somewhat uncomfortable. But now, it no longer cared whether Wei Zhao was friendly with the Fire Lion Clan or not, for Wei Zhao had shown the Spider Clan an incomparable kindness. "You have done our Spider Clan a kindness as vast as heaven, and my son and I will never forget it. Should you ever have need of us in the future, just say the word!"

Wei Zhao shrugged. The Fire Lion Clan had made him a similar promise, and now the Spider Clan had made one too—only these two spirit beast clans were sworn enemies, which gave Wei Zhao something of a headache.

But he did not want to meddle in their feud. Two tigers cannot share one mountain—everyone understood that. Especially with cultivation resources for spirit beasts so scarce, there was no possibility of reconciliation between the two clans. Getting them to sit down and split resources evenly seemed a very difficult thing indeed.

"Are you worrying over the relationship between our Spider Clan and the Fire Lion Clan?" The Heaven-tier Spider seemed to have read Wei Zhao's thoughts, and so it asked.

"Indeed. Now you all count as my friends," Wei Zhao nodded and said.

"Spirit beasts in the same mountain range, competing with one another—that is entirely normal. It has been so since ancient times," the Heaven-tier Spider explained with a smile. "Only where competition exists can our two clans keep developing and cultivating. If cultivation resources really were split evenly, life would grow easy, and we would no longer train so diligently..."

Hearing the Heaven-tier Spider's words, Wei Zhao was somewhat surprised. So that was the reason! (To be continued) RQ
