Chapter 2812 — Thrown Off the Cliff

The Blossom Guardian

And more than anything, what mattered now was how to escape this place alive! Judging by the look of the Five Baleful Dragon, it was plainly in a towering rage; its eyes had turned crimson, as though it meant to swallow them whole.

"Watch out!" The beautiful girl no longer had time to blame Wei Zhao—she saw the Five Baleful Dragon spit out a fireball, and it hurtled straight toward Wei Zhao's back!

"Boom!" Wei Zhao had no time to dodge and was struck square by the Five Baleful Dragon's fireball; in an instant, the flesh of his back split open. Only because he had heard the girl's warning and frantically circulated his cultivation mantra to shield his body did he survive—otherwise, dead or not, he would have been in a sorry state indeed.

Even so, Wei Zhao's back had been smashed concave. Had it been any ordinary cultivator, he would certainly not have lived.

In that same instant, the girl scrambled out from beneath Wei Zhao. She glanced at him, and a flicker of pity crossed her eyes. The Five Baleful Dragon had unleashed its skill without warning; had Wei Zhao not shielded her with his body, she might well have been unable to dodge in time. Even though she was stronger than Wei Zhao and would not have been beaten so savagely, she would hardly have come off well.

So the girl's heart was still full of gratitude toward Wei Zhao—without him blocking that blow, she too would have been in danger today. And so her resentment over his earlier "forced kiss" was no longer so great, nor her displeasure so sharp.

Then the girl pressed her palms together, formed a seal, and suddenly thrust her hands forward; a strange radiance flowed along her arms and struck the Five Baleful Dragon!

Wei Zhao seized the moment to scramble to a safe spot nearby and swiftly began circulating the second layer of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art, preparing to heal his wounds. His injuries were truly severe—if he did not mend them in time, he might well drop dead.

Seeing the girl go to do battle with the Five Baleful Dragon, Wei Zhao let out a breath of relief—yet suddenly he felt that the technique she had just unleashed had a familiar feel to it. But because he had been rolling and crawling to get clear, he had not seen it clearly, and he was in too desperate a hurry to heal his body to give it any thought.

"Boom!"

The girl's technique exploded against the Five Baleful Dragon's body; the beast staggered back two steps and roared again, its voice full of fury. By the look of it, the girl's technique had enraged it—and what she had unleashed must have been an ultimate technique.

"Awoo—roar!" The Five Baleful Dragon had clearly lost its patience. Before, it had only used its skills, perhaps merely intending to teach the girl a lesson; but perhaps because her technique was so formidable, it no longer wished to keep trading blows with her. It extended its claws and swiped at the girl!

"Ah—!" the girl cried out. Even at the peak of the late Heaven rank, she was no match for the Five Baleful Dragon in either size or speed; in one stroke its claw caught her square, and its talons pierced straight into her chest!

The girl's face went deathly pale. It seemed the Five Baleful Dragon had not been going all out before, and what happened afterward had provoked it; losing patience, it had simply snatched her up.

Wei Zhao wanted to help, but he could scarcely look after himself—how could he have the means to rescue her? And even if he tried, he was no match for this Five Baleful Dragon. If even a technique at the peak of the late Heaven rank was useless against it, what business had Wei Zhao to think he could beat it?

The Five Baleful Dragon was plainly no fool. Gripping the girl, it walked all the way to the cave mouth, swung the claw that held her in several circles through the air, then let go—and the girl shot out like a cannonball with a "whoosh," flung toward the back mountain, vanishing from sight in the blink of an eye!

Wei Zhao's mouth twitched twice. Only now did he realize how helpless and insignificant a cultivator at the peak of the late Heaven rank was before a mighty spirit beast—especially before this gigantic one. And at last he understood why the trial map had especially marked this place as extremely dangerous!

With this Five Baleful Dragon here, likely only a Heaven-Dao expert could stand against it.

After the girl was flung away, the Five Baleful Dragon turned around and came step by step toward Wei Zhao in the cave. Cold sweat broke out on Wei Zhao's forehead at once—and yet at this moment there was nothing at all he could do!

Never mind that Wei Zhao was gravely wounded—even unwounded, he was no match for this Five Baleful Dragon now!

What will be will be; what cannot be avoided cannot be fled. Clinging to this fearless resolve, Wei Zhao kept furiously circulating the inner art of the second layer of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art, mending the injuries on his body! But plainly the Five Baleful Dragon had no intention of letting Wei Zhao off; it reached out and scooped him up in its claw. Wei Zhao was luckier than the girl, though—the dragon's talons did not pierce into his body.

Then the Five Baleful Dragon nimbly turned its body and, gripping Wei Zhao, walked toward the cave mouth...

So it seemed he was most likely about to become a flying man, just like the girl! Wei Zhao smiled bitterly and glanced at the Heavenly Thunder Pig by the cave mouth. Right now the little creature was squeaking "ji ji" at the Five Baleful Dragon, saying something or other.

But the Five Baleful Dragon clearly had no mind to pay it any heed. Irritated by the pig's chatter, it simply reached out, grabbed the Heavenly Thunder Pig together with Wei Zhao, swung its claw through two circles as before with a "whoosh," and hurled both Wei Zhao and the Heavenly Thunder Pig toward the back mountain...

The wind roared past Wei Zhao's ears as he flew at breakneck speed toward the valley behind the mountain. He dared not be careless—though the Five Baleful Dragon had not unleashed any skill, its sheer terrifying speed alone was almost more than he could bear. It was fast to the very limit; without true qi shielding his body, he would surely be smashed to pulp on landing.

"Heavenly Thunder Pig, be careful when we land—don't forget to shield yourself with true qi, or we're both done for!" Wei Zhao warned as they flew.

"Ji ji—" the Heavenly Thunder Pig indicated that it understood.

In truth, it all happened in an instant; both of them flew so fast that the fall into the valley took but a moment. Wei Zhao and the Heavenly Thunder Pig crashed straight down beneath the cliff behind the mountain with a thunderous boom, and Wei Zhao was sent sprawling head over heels.
