Shen Mu looked up and saw the woman in bright robes the phoenix had transformed into standing atop the hall, gazing at the Jade Capital City without blinking, as though facing a great enemy, radiating a fierce fighting intent. Shen Mu's heart stirred. He leaped up to the roof.
The phoenix said with displeasure, "Get down! This is not a place for you to come up!
" Shen Mu said hastily, "I refined some spirit pills and came to ask Sister to taste them, to see if they suit your palate.
If they don't, I'll adjust the formula again. " The phoenix's expression eased.
"Do not call me sister — it is too sweet, too familiar.
My name is Feng Qiuyun.
Simply call me the Qiuyun Divinity.
" She tasted a spirit pill.
"Too heavy on the fire nature. I am a phoenix myself and cultivate the Great Dao of Sacred Fire. The fire nature in these pills is of too low a grade, and so it does not suit my taste. Go down first — this is no place for you. Set the matter of pills aside for now; the matter of the Earth Mother is pressing.
Just cultivate! " Shen Mu smiled.
"Sister Qiuyun, my daily cultivation requires no seclusion. In truth I have been used to running about since childhood, and I cultivate while on the move.
When I fight, my cultivation actually progresses faster.
What is Sister Qiuyun watching? " Seeing that he still called her sister, Feng Qiuyun frowned but let it pass. "You cultivate faster when you fight?
" Shen Mu nodded. "Then I'll take you to fight!
" Feng Qiuyun said, "Yan'er, you all stay here. I'm taking him to the Jade Capital City to fight! " Gongsun Yan said hastily, "How can that be?
Brother Shen was gravely wounded just now — how can you take him to fight? If anything goes wrong, we will have no way to answer to the Earth Mother. " The phoenix on the roof paced anxiously back and forth.
Shen Mu was puzzled and asked, "Sister Qiuyun, what troubles you? " Feng Qiuyun did not answer, but stopped and kept staring at the Jade Capital City. Gongsun Yan said, "Brother Shen, come down and eat fruit — there is still plenty! " Shen Mu had no choice but to leap down from the roof and eat his fill of fruit. When the fruit on the platter was finished, Gongsun Yan was ready to go pick more from the back courtyard.
Shen Mu smiled. "Sister Yan, I'm already full. By the way, Sister Yan, what is that little green sprout behind your head? " He reached out and touched the little tender sprout in the halo behind Gongsun Yan's head.
Gongsun Yan gave a low cry, bashful, her face flushing red. "Don't touch.
.
.
you mustn't touch it," she whispered. Shen Mu was puzzled.
"Why can't I touch it? " Gongsun Yan's face reddened further, and she dared not speak. "Idiot!
" Feng Qiuyun leaped down from the roof and sneered, "That is Yan'er's primal spirit.
What are you doing touching her primal spirit?
It is far too stimulating for her — you might as well touch her body directly!
Her primal spirit is very weak.
She was originally a tender sprout grown from the pit of an Earth Origin Dao Fruit. The Earth Mother had me gather the water of heavenly yin to water her, and only then did she gain consciousness and the ability to cultivate. But the pit had no flesh, and her primal spirit drew no nourishment from it, and so she is weak. " Shen Mu's face flushed crimson.
He stammered, "Sister Yan used her primal spirit to save me.
I have no way to repay her. .
.
" "Repay her with your body!
" Feng Qiuyun was clearly on edge, pacing back and forth, and said impatiently.
Shen Mu's eyes lit up. "Would the Earth Origin Dao Fruit help Sister? If I use its energy, could I strengthen Sister's primal spirit? " Gongsun Yan hastily declined. "How can that be? The fruit was given to you by the Earth Mother, to cultivate to the Life and Death realm. I.
. .
" Shen Mu smiled. "The fruit holds far too much energy.
