Chapter 111 — Chen Shutang's Decision

Years of Heartflutter Page 2 of 2

"I understand." Chen Shutang let out a long breath when she heard it, and only after a moment said, "Given the circumstances, that promise of yours was the only hope Zhou Yanning had to keep living. So I understand completely."

"You don't blame me for saying such a thing?" Yang Jincong said with a smile.

"I don't blame you. Even if I had been there beside you, I wouldn't have been angry after hearing it, because you did the right thing." Chen Shutang nodded with great firmness.

"Ah," Yang Xunai said, "right now I just want Zhou Yanning to get better quickly, but then I don't know how to face this promise once she wakes up. It's truly too heavy—it weighs on me so much I can scarcely breathe."

Chen Shutang fell silent. Yes—once Zhou Yanning woke, what then? Would Yang Ce keep his promise? Or did Chen Shutang, somewhere deep down, not want Yang Ce to keep it? Yet at the thought of Zhou Yanning finally waking only to hear Yang Ce tell her the truth, and the look of disappointment on her face, Chen Shutang's heart softened with reluctance.

Was this not a little too cruel? After surviving such a life-and-death upheaval, she had barely grasped a promise—and it was false. What was to be done? Chen Shutang could not help imagining what she herself would do if she were Zhou Yanning and heard such a thing.

Losing all meaning in life. Taking her own life. A terrifying thought surfaced in Chen Shutang's mind and sent a chill through her.

"As for what comes later—we'll deal with it when it comes."

To be continued.
