Chapter 954 — This Man's Heart-Demon Tribulation

The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2

" The tower ship drew closer and closer to the halo of light shed by the Great Void, and at last arrived at the Great Void's edge.

The divine officer steering the ship bellowed: "Be on your guard, everyone! Keep the Neither-Thought-Nor-Non-Thought flowing at all times — never let it stop! " Everyone on board channeled the Buddhist art, holding their thoughts in the state of neither thought nor non-thought.

Shen Mu had never learned this art; he held fast to his original heart and kept the thoughts in his head single and pure. The tower ship flew straight into the halo, and the soft light quickly enfolded the three hundred or more people aboard.

Shen Mu at once felt faint, elusive ripples of thought.

So this light was thought condensed into radiance! But strangely, these thoughts contained not a single idea or intention — they were thought, pure and simple, like a person's bare and blank consciousness!

"How is this achieved? " He could not help wondering.

He knew something of the prehistoric Creators' cultivation methods — one could even say he knew more than most Heavenly Venerables and Imperial Throne powerhouses of the Heavenly Court; of course, he could not compare with a true Creator like Shu Jun. But he had long since figured out the principle behind the prehistoric Creators' cultivation: visualization.

They used visualization to make themselves mighty. Yet to visualize, one's divine consciousness must construct the object to be visualized — for instance, to visualize the Heavenly Duke, the mind builds the Heavenly Duke's form, and thereby grows stronger.

But the pure thoughts in the Great Void had condensed into light with not a single thought or idea inside them.

That was bizarre, beyond anything he knew. "Perhaps there are prehistoric Creators' cultivation methods I do not understand. " The moment this thought came to him, a prehistoric giant appeared ahead of the tower ship.

Its enormous palm reached out, caught the ship, lifted it, and bore it toward its gaping mouth!

Shen Mu's eyes went wide and his jaw dropped; most of those aboard were seeing such a sight for the first time, and for a moment panic reigned.

"Whose mind is running wild? " Luo Wushuang soared into the air, the divine blade at his back rasping from its sheath; with the blade in hand, he struck down at the prehistoric Creator!

The blade-light was peerlessly dazzling and overwhelming in power; it cut clean through the hand by which the Creator had seized the ship. Luo Wushuang raised the blade again, and its light swept across the Creator's throat!

He sheathed his blade, landed on the prow, and turned to say coldly: "Keep channeling the Neither-Thought-Nor-Non-Thought — under no circumstances stop! Otherwise more apparitions will come at us! And whose thoughts were impure?

" The words had hardly left his mouth when a pattering sound came from behind him.

Astonishment crossed Luo Wushuang's face. He turned around with difficulty, and there in the resplendent light of the Great Void, a chest with legs came pattering toward the ship.

Standing on the chest was a youth with a long sword slung across his back.

It was a youthful Shen Mu, his eyes bright as stars.

Luo Wushuang's body trembled; his one remaining hand trembled as well as it rose with difficulty to grip the hilt of the blade at his back.

This was his heart demon — the figure in his Dao-heart that he dreaded most of all.

Luo Wushuang gave a great shout, drew his blade, flew out of the ship, and charged at the youth on the chest.

The youth drew his sword, and its light met Luo Wushuang's blade-light!

Luo Wushuang was worthy of his name as the Heavenly Court's mightiest divine blade — one blade that changed ten thousand ways, miraculous beyond measure!

His divine blade had reached the sixteenth heaven of the Dao of the Blade; he had entered the Dao through the blade, and when his swordplay unfolded, every flourish was a firmament of the blade-Dao!

Yet the youth on the chest was extraordinarily powerful in his own right. A single sword parried his ever-changing techniques and struck straight at the flaws in his forms!

Before long, Luo Wushuang was drenched in blood!

On the tower ship, Shen Mu was baffled: "In Luo Wushuang's heart, I am actually this powerful?

" Ahead of the ship, the two figures crossed like lightning, the void lighting up as blade and sword clashed in blinding flashes, and the firmament of Luo Wushuang's blade-Dao grew mightier and mightier; his one divine blade spanned the sky. But the youthful Shen Mu could always find the gaps in his swordplay — every time the sword-light flashed, another wound appeared on Luo Wushuang's body. In Luo Wushuang's Dao-heart, Shen Mu was precisely such a being.

On that night at the end of the Upper Sovereign era, in the darkness, Shen Mu had stood upon a chest and cut off his arm with one stroke of the sword! That figure had been branded into his Dao-heart ever since.

In the forty thousand years that followed, he had cultivated himself into a Blade God — the one and only Blade God of the Heavenly Court — and could even clash head-on with the Mystic God-Slaying Blade on the God-Slaying Platform.

Yet he had never once walked out from under Shen Mu's shadow.

The stronger his power, the stronger his blade-Dao, and the stronger became the heart-demon Shen Mu in his heart! And now, in the Great Void, the demon in his heart had stepped out of his Dao-heart and become all too real! Yun Chuxiu cried out in excitement: "Divine Blade Luo, only by killing the true Heavenly Venerable Mu can you ever escape your heart demon!

"
