Chapter 955 — Myriad Demons Disturb the Heart
The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 1 of 2
"The Great Void is a strange place indeed — whatever the mind conceives becomes reality. Could the entire Great Void be woven from divine consciousness? The prehistoric Creator used the Primeval Divine Stone to visualize; perhaps the form of this whole world is itself a Primeval Divine Stone. What principle governs its workings?" Shen Mu sank into thought.
The others channeled the Neither-Thought-Nor-Non-Thought, holding their minds and consciousness in a state near perfect stillness, so that their heart-demons would not become real — but in doing so, they lost the capacity to think.
As for why he had never taken the initiative to learn the Neither-Thought-Nor-Non-Thought, it was precisely because his curiosity burned too fiercely; he wanted to uncover the truth of the Great Void.
Without the power of thought, it was nearly impossible to find truth amid the chaos.
Luo Wushuang was still locked in mortal combat with his heart-demon, Shen Mu, while the divine officials aboard the ship made ready to steer the tower ship past them. Luo Wushuang was plainly no match for his heart-demon; abandoning him and fleeing this place was the right decision.
Shen Mu remained lost in a daze, thinking: "The Great Void may well be the Primeval Divine Stone universe conceived by the prehistoric Creator. This blank mode of thought seizes upon the terror in our hearts and turns it into reality."
"The terror in the heart is the heart-demon within the Dao-heart. The reason I thought of the prehistoric Creator just now is most likely because the Creator Shujun dwells between my brows. Shujun is the affliction of my heart — that is why the Great Void manifested a Creator."
"Luo Wushuang was defeated by me in his early years, so I am his heart-demon. That is why, when he asked who was letting his thoughts run wild, he could not help but suspect me — and so his heart-demon appeared."
At this thought, Shen Mu purified his consciousness and cast out all distracting thoughts, refusing to think of the other Heavenly Venerables.
Those Heavenly Venerables were his heart-demons — and Heavenly Venerable Yu, that terrifying weapon, was the greatest heart-demon of all.
If he were to think of him, and a Heavenly Venerable Yu were to appear here, it would surely cause utter chaos.
"Then why does the Great Void only stir up heart-demons? Why does it only manifest the terror in one's heart?"
Shen Mu sank into thought. To others, the Great Void was a place of incomparable peril; yet to him, it was also an incomparably vast source of power. If he could harness the might of the Great Void and manifest divine weapons and sharp blades that fought for him — even gods and demons — could he not stand against the Heavenly Court?
Just then, Luo Wushuang's roar came from behind. Shen Mu rushed to the stern and saw that the blade-light behind them had grown several times more intense. Luo Wushuang's divine blade had actually constructed layer upon layer of heavens, slashing at his heart-demon, Shen Mu!
"Luo Wushuang is a genius! In the midst of this battle, he actually broke through his former realm and raised his blade art to yet another heaven!"
Yun Chuxiu and Lian Huahun came to his side. Yun Chuxiu praised: "His blade art has entered the Dao — he is even more formidable than before. His heart-demon was only a hair stronger than him; now he can defeat it!"
The blade-light blazed like a proud sun, then dimmed after its burst of radiance.
Luo Wushuang, his figure towering, walked out from the fading light, carrying the head of the heart-demon Shen Mu in his hand. In a few strides he caught up with the tower ship and landed at the stern.
He was drenched in blood, his body covered in wounds, yet his aura was stronger than ever before.
Shen Mu frowned slightly; he could tell that this one-armed man's injuries were extremely grave.
Luo Wushuang tossed the head of the heart-demon Shen Mu; it rolled to Shen Mu's feet. Shen Mu looked up at Luo Wushuang and saw him striding toward him, murderous intent boiling — then suddenly, with a thud, he fell stiffly to the ground, unconscious.
The disciple he had brought aboard hurried over, took out wound medicine, and began treating Luo Wushuang's injuries.
Suddenly, Yun Chuxiu said coldly: "A man who has fallen unconscious is at his most dangerous. Kill Luo Wushuang at once, and we may still be saved!"
The disciple was startled. He abruptly set down his blade case at his feet and stood guard over Luo Wushuang, shouting angrily: "Mad woman, what nonsense are you raving?"
The others aboard were likewise shaken, and looked at Yun Chuxiu, unable to understand why she would say such a thing.
Yun Chuxiu sneered: "Once a person falls unconscious, his consciousness falls into disorder and his Dao-heart loses control — that is when he is most dangerous. In unconsciousness, wild thoughts run rampant and demons dance in chaos; there will be unpredictable and terrible peril!"
At that very moment, a sudden clatter of footsteps rang out. Following the sound, the crowd saw a chest emerge from the light of the Great Void — and upon the chest, Luo Wushuang's heart-demon Shen Mu appeared in their view.
Then came more clattering footsteps: a second heart-demon Shen Mu appeared, then a third, a fourth...
Soon more and more heart-demon Shen Mus appeared. In that brief span, thirty or fifty chests marched out of the light of the Great Void, each bearing a heart-demon Shen Mu!
"Too late... The reason Luo Wushuang imagined Heavenly Venerable Mu as so powerful is precisely because of his reputation for the Overlord Body."
Yun Chuxiu sighed and called out loudly: "Everyone, channel the tower ship with all your strength — get us away from here!"
The tower ship surged forward, racing madly into the depths of the Great Void's halo. Behind it, thirty or fifty Shen Mus rose at once and gave chase, flying swords blazing — streaks of light reached the ship ahead of them.
Whizz, whizz, whizz — the sound of air being pierced rang out. The tower ship was run through by those streaks of sword-light, great holes torn through it, while on the deck the sword-light danced like fish and dragons, weaving among the crowd.
The people aboard were plunged into peril, each unleashing their divine abilities and channeling their divine weapons to hold the sword-light back.
Suddenly a scream rang out. A god-man was run through by a sword; his primordial spirit flew from his body at once — but no sooner had it left than another streak of sword-light pinned it dead in the air!
The ship fell into chaos. Shen Mu too raised his sword core to fend off the sword-light. The him that Luo Wushuang imagined still wielded the sword art of years past — crude and clumsy in the eyes of who he was now.
Yet the him imagined by Luo Wushuang was simply too strong. He could only seek openings to break the sword art, but every clash with the heart-demon Shen Mu's sword-light shook his vital essence into disarray!
"In Luo Wushuang's heart, I am far too strong!"
Shen Mu gritted his teeth and held on, his sword core wheeling, pressing through the streaks of sword-light that wove across the deck toward the unconscious Luo Wushuang.
In his unconsciousness, Luo Wushuang's consciousness was in disarray; more heart-demon Shen Mus walked out of the void and gave chase to the tower ship. The situation grew more desperate by the moment.
On the other side, Yun Chuxiu and Lian Huahun were also fighting off the dragon-like sword-light, drawing near to Luo Wushuang.
Shen Mu shifted and dodged, and soon reached Luo Wushuang's side. Luo Wushuang's disciple, loyal to the end, had stayed guarding him, his blade-light opening and closing to fend off the sword-light and keep it from harming Luo Wushuang.
Shen Mu fought his way to him, then his ten fingers flew, swift as a raging storm, striking swiftly at points all over Luo Wushuang's body.
