Chapter 955 — Myriad Demons Disturb the Heart

The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2

The disciple was startled and, without a moment's thought, slashed at him with his blade — the blade-light halted dead only when it reached the crown of Shen Mu's head.

He realized that Shen Mu did not mean to kill Luo Wushuang but to wake him. Under Shen Mu's series of hand techniques, the sword wounds on Luo Wushuang's body had already stopped bleeding.

Yun Chuxiu fought her way over and, seeing this, said angrily: "Why do you not kill him at once?"

Shen Mu turned a deaf ear, his ten fingers flickering as he formed a strange mudra. His consciousness seemed to transform into a lotus flower, and as his mudra descended, it fell upon the point between Luo Wushuang's brows.

On the other side, Lian Huahun flew over, both hands thrusting toward Luo Wushuang and Shen Mu.

From within this young girl burst an incomparably powerful aura. As her hands pushed out, her blood and vital force surged with savage intensity, and her divine ability erupted with a tremendous mang-gu, mang-gu roar!

A head suddenly sprouted from Shen Mu's back, then four arms emerged. Four palms simultaneously performed the Heaven Seal, clashing with a thunderous boom against the girl's palm force.

The two divine abilities collided. The power from Lian Huahun's hands was astonishingly strong. Shen Mu gave a muffled grunt, his body flipping over, head down and feet up, while his other two arms still steadily performed the mudra, sending streams of consciousness divine ability into the point between Luo Wushuang's brows.

Shen Mu landed, and his four arms suddenly burst apart with a bang, shattered outright by Lian Huahun's divine ability, bones snapping.

Lian Huahun was about to press her advantage when Yun Chuxiu threw herself across her path. The two girls' eyes met, each wary of the other.

Suddenly, Luo Wushuang sat bolt upright.

Shen Mu's four severed arms withdrew into his body, and the head behind him vanished.

Luo Wushuang was stunned for a moment, then looked at Shen Mu and said in a low voice: "Thank you."

"Think nothing of it." Shen Mu smiled.

Luo Wushuang rose and cut through the streaks of sword-light in the air with a single blade stroke. The tower ship surged forward at once, leaving the pursuing heart-demon Shen Mus far behind.

His cultivation far surpassed the others'; channeling the tower ship with all his strength, he greatly increased its speed.

This time his misfortune had brought him blessing; his strength had advanced, surpassing those heart-demons. Yet these heart-demons had been born while he was unconscious, and in unconsciousness he had no clear understanding of his own strength — the heart-demon Shen Mu's power was not very great. But now that he had awakened, if a heart-demon arose again, its strength would surely be even greater!

So long as he had not defeated Shen Mu, his heart-demon Shen Mu would always be a notch stronger than him!

Only by defeating Shen Mu would the heart-demon disperse.

"I repay kindness and grudge alike. You saved my life, and for that I thank you. But my arm was severed by your blade as well — that debt I will surely repay."

Luo Wushuang glanced back and saw that the heart-demons could not catch the tower ship; he breathed a sigh of relief and said to Shen Mu gravely: "To utterly break my heart-demon, I will still challenge you."

Shen Mu smiled faintly, unbothered, and said: "I am also quite interested in your blade entering the Dao. You may challenge me at any time."

Luo Wushuang put away his divine blade and looked behind them. The heart-demon Shen Mus had vanished from sight. He said in a low voice: "The Great Void creates heart-demons — it is practically a colossal artifact of creation. But now that we have shaken off these heart-demons, will they still exist afterward? Will they simply go on existing forever?"

Shen Mu's gaze fell on Lian Huahun. She had returned to her former self, and bowed gracefully, her voice pleasant and melodious: "The situation was desperate just now, and I had no choice but to offend the Heavenly Venerable. I beg the Heavenly Venerable's forgiveness."

"It was indeed chaos just now. There is no need for you to blame yourself, little sister."

Shen Mu smiled warmly: "Your cultivation art and divine ability are most exquisite. Might you tell me something of their workings?"

Lian Huahun said: "I am a disciple of Heavenly Venerable Hao. I cultivated eighteen kinds of Imperial Throne cultivation arts, and by mastering them all and fusing them together, I created a divine art suited to myself."

Shen Mu was moved: "Eighteen kinds of Imperial Throne cultivation arts? You are truly remarkable, little sister!"

Yun Chuxiu walked over and said with a smile: "Fusing eighteen kinds of Imperial Throne cultivation arts already qualifies as a Great Heavenly Court cultivation art. Sister Lian, you are truly remarkable — one might call you a young Heavenly Venerable. If you cultivate to the Imperial Throne realm, you will have eighteen heavenly palaces, and your cultivation will run more than ten times deeper than other Imperial Throne powerhouses!"

Lian Huahun smiled: "Sister Yun is no less remarkable — not a whit inferior to a young Heavenly Venerable. Which Heavenly Venerable's disciple are you, Sister Yun?"

Yun Chuxiu took Shen Mu's arm and said with a coy smile: "Why, Heavenly Venerable Mu's, of course! I was trained by Heavenly Venerable Mu's own hand."

Shen Mu's head ached. The two women stared at each other, words laden with hidden meaning, each wanting to know which Heavenly Venerable the other had been reincarnated as, and so probing for hints.

The Ten Heavenly Venerables seemed to know one another well, yet among them all was a murky pool. The Ancient God Heavenly Emperor was among the Ten Heavenly Venerables; the Empress and Lady Yuanmu were among them as well — but which Heavenly Venerables they truly were, no one could say clearly.

"These two women both deserve a good hard spanking!" Shen Mu thought to himself.

The tower ship sailed on into the depths of the Great Void. Before long it passed through the halo and entered a starry sky, where stars upon stars formed a tranquil river of stars.

The tower ship sailed beneath the river of stars; one could reach up and touch those tiny stars, fine as dust.

"This must be the Great Void, then?" one person asked, raising a hand to touch the stars.

"Do not touch them!"

Luo Wushuang hastily stopped him: "That is a divine ability! An imagined divine ability — if you touch it, it will erupt!"

Everyone's heart skipped. They hurriedly steered the tower ship farther from that river of stars.

Shen Mu studied the river of stars, and his heart stirred: "This divine ability... it is Eldest Senior Brother Wei Suifeng's divine ability! He has been here? Is there any place my eldest senior brother has not been? Wait — can the Great Void not only manifest heart-demons? How did Eldest Senior Brother use the Great Void to manifest a divine ability?"
