Chapter 1927 — The Challenge, Part Two
"You attack me. Use whatever moves you like—I'll fight you with military combat boxing alone!" Chen Yutian said mildly, pretending he had not seen through Huang Mao's strength.
Huang Mao sneered inwardly. Playing the fool with me? You don't even know what a cultivator is, and you actually dream of beating me with military boxing? Even if you had trained those forms to perfection, you would still be nothing but an ordinary man. The gulf between you and a cultivator is the gulf between heaven and earth.
"You said it, not me!" Huang Mao wasted no words and threw his fist. He was afraid of killing Chen Yutian outright and having to answer for it, so he drew on only the strength of the early Yellow rank—just enough to teach the man a lesson.
"Bang!" Huang Mao's fist slammed into Chen Yutian's arm, and Chen Yutian's move was precisely one of military boxing's defensive techniques.
Huang Mao had assumed that even if his punch did not break Chen Yutian's arm, it would at least send him flying. Yet Chen Yutian stood as immovable as a rock, while Huang Mao himself, thrown back by that block, staggered several steps and landed flat on his backside.
"Ha ha ha..."
At the sight of Huang Mao sitting on the ground, the assembled students burst into laughter. This fellow had swaggered about like a big shot, demanding that the instructor excuse them from military training—and on top of that, that they be given extra credits. Who did he think he was?
Chen Yutian had no wish to hurt Huang Mao, so he kept his strength at the peak of the early Profound rank—just enough to overpower him. Among cultivators below the Earth rank, a single rank's difference was enough to cut one's opponent down, so Chen Yutian confined himself to defense with military boxing, launching no attack, hoping Huang Mao would back off of his own accord.
But Huang Mao had been careless. Had he struck with his full strength, he could not have hurt Chen Yutian—but neither would he have fallen in such a sorry, sprawling heap.
"Peak of the early Profound rank..." Huang Mao stared at Chen Yutian in disbelief. Since when were cultivators so common? He himself came from a hidden clan, and only thus did he possess Profound-rank power—yet Chen Yutian, a mere military instructor, was actually stronger than he was?
"Yes!" Purple Hair nodded. He was a skilled fighter of the mid Profound rank, solidly a cut above Chen Yutian, so he agreed without hesitation.
"I never expected Instructor Chen to be such a capable fighter. In that case, allow me to take two of your moves on my brother's behalf." Purple Hair stepped forward and regarded Chen Yutian coolly.
"Oh? Since you've stepped up, come on then. Watch closely, classmates—whenever you run into little thugs like these two in the future, handle them the way I do, and you'll be spared their bullying!" Chen Yutian began using the pair as a live demonstration for his students.
Purple Hair was seething. I am a skilled fighter of the mid Profound rank, not some little thug! But this was no time for a war of words, and Chen Yutian had not named anyone directly, so Purple Hair could only swallow his anger for the moment. Knocking Chen Yutian down—that would be the best retort of all.
"Ha ha ha, yes, Instructor Chen! We're watching closely!" the students chorused.
"Peak of the early Profound rank—very impressive, is it?" Purple Hair sneered at Chen Yutian and began circulating his inner-energy cultivation method, laying bare the full power of his mid Profound rank.
"Come on, keep attacking me!" Chen Yutian glanced at Purple Hair, inwardly more astonished than ever. Another mid Profound rank? What kind of class was this? Truly a den of hidden dragons and crouching tigers! And yet, beside a skilled Earth-rank fighter like Wei Zhao, these people were still far too weak.
"Hm?" Purple Hair was taken aback. Chen Yutian was plainly only at the peak of the early Profound rank, yet he showed no fear at the sight of a mid Profound opponent—and was even inviting him to strike first. Had he lost his mind? A higher-ranked fighter attacking a lower-ranked one would be nothing but a one-sided slaughter.
"Hurry up. Don't waste everyone's time!" Chen Yutian said, a note of impatience in his voice.
"Hmph!" Purple Hair was furious. With a cold snort, he drove a kick straight at Chen Yutian. Since Chen Yutian was a skilled fighter at the peak of the early Profound rank, Purple Hair no longer held back. A full-power blow to injure him would do—after all, a man at the peak of the early Profound rank would not die from it. Purple Hair meant to make Chen Yutian suffer in silence.
Chen Yutian had been the one to invite the attack. Even if he were injured, he would have no choice but to swallow his grievance and bear it—he had personally agreed to those terms of victory.
But when Purple Hair's kick came flying at him, Chen Yutian met it with a military-boxing move—and what made Purple Hair's blood run cold was this: Chen Yutian was no peak early-Profound fighter at all. He was at the peak of the late Profound rank!
Purple Hair cursed his own folly—but it was too late. The instant his foot met Chen Yutian's fist, his whole body was sent flying backward, far farther than Huang Mao had gone, all the way to the edge of the training ground, where he crashed heavily to the earth and let out a miserable howl: "Awooo—"
Even this was Chen Yutian holding back. Otherwise, given his strength, snuffing out Purple Hair's life would have been child's play.
"Whoa—" The students gasped in astonishment, and then thunderous applause broke out.
Chen Yutian's move had been utterly magnificent—an ordinary-looking blow that carried such tremendous force, just like a stunt sequence from a martial-arts film. After all, when an ordinary person threw a punch, the most they could do was knock someone down. A punch that could send a man flying—and flying so far—was something ordinary people almost never saw; it belonged only to the movies.
And now it had happened right before their eyes! So those scenes in films were not merely tricks to dazzle the audience—there really were people in this world powerful enough to do such things!
"Huang Mao, Purple Hair, You Panhu—breaking discipline. Go run a hundred laps around the barracks, or you get no lunch!" Chen Yutian glanced at You Panhu in the ranks. He had noticed earlier that these three were in league together. If Huang Mao and Purple Hair were no ordinary men, then You Panhu was likely a cultivator as well. A hundred laps was nothing—he would take them for a little spin.
"Yes..." Huang Mao, Purple Hair, and You Panhu burned with resentment, but at this point they dared not make trouble. This instructor was actually a skilled fighter at the peak of the late Profound rank—before such a man, they had no room to resist.
Watching the three of them set off to run their laps, the students in the assembly ground broke into wave upon wave of laughter.
