Chapter 2153 — A Shocking Scene

The Blossom Guardian

Wei Zhao circulated his inner art the whole way, and found it a little regrettable—he was not as fast as he was when Wang Xinyan was at his side. Wang Xinyan was like a walking hoard of heaven-sent treasures; now that he had to cultivate on his own, he felt rather out of sorts.

"I'm going. I'll leave the rest to you in a moment." Wei Zhao opened his eyes and gave the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast an instruction, then walked toward the mouth of the cage. "Sect Master Wo, open the cage. This Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast is terrified of me—I've been cultivating for ages and it hasn't even twitched. Being champion of this contest is far too dull!"

"Hmph. Such wild boasts—you've only been in there half an hour. Don't go thinking the championship is already yours!" Wo the sect master was puzzled, unable to guess where things had gone wrong, but he still gave a cold snort. "The one who laughs last is the champion!"

"Oh." Wei Zhao answered faintly and walked off toward Han Xiaopo.

Wo the sect master frowned. Wei Zhao was treating him as though he did not exist—it infuriated him, yet there was nothing he could do about it.

"In the fourth match, the Hidden Han Family held out for thirty-one minutes and twenty-five seconds, temporarily in the lead. Now let us welcome the final contestant—the disciple of Qianshan Sect." Elder Zhao announced with a blank face, though inwardly he was seething. Wo the sect master had talked such a fine game beforehand, and now, with the moment at hand, he had dropped the ball!

Still wanting treasures? Wanting squat! Elder Zhao had decided he would give him nothing—Wei Zhao had not died, so what was there to give?

Elder Yu, Elder You, Elder Tang, and the others shared the same thought: Qianshan Sect would get nothing more from them. Wei Zhao was completely unharmed; even if he failed to take first place, he had still secured second. This Hidden World Family Summit truly had been a fiasco!

One of Qianshan Sect's disciples stepped into the arena. This was the disciple who normally tended the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast. Though he had no contract with it, he was the disciple in all of Qianshan Sect most familiar with the beast, so sending him in was safe—he could stay as long as he liked. Even a full day, and the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast would never attack him.

"Once you're inside, question that Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast—ask it why it didn't kill Wei Zhao!" Wo the sect master instructed the Qianshan Sect disciple as he opened the cage.

"Yes, sir!" The disciple agreed readily and swaggered into the cage. Somewhat displeased, he barked at the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast, "Hey, Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast, why didn't you kill Wei Zhao? Is this how Qianshan Sect is repaid for its kindness? All these years—letting you cultivate, feeding you well—and you can't even do a small thing when asked?"

Had the disciple spoken politely, the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast might have remembered old ties and merely crippled him instead of killing him. But the moment this fool opened his mouth it was to interrogate, and the beast was thoroughly displeased.

Who do you think you are? You're nothing but a petty disciple of Qianshan Sect, and even the food you gave me was on Wo the sect master's orders—did you imagine you had earned credit? And besides, it was your Qianshan Sect that built its gates on the ground where I cultivate. I never made trouble for you; instead I served as your sect's guardian spirit beast for all these years. Without me here, how would Qianshan Sect ever have become a sect of any renown? With strength like yours, you're no better than a secular family—you don't even have a Heaven-rank expert, not even one at the peak of the late Earth rank!

So the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast said not a word more—it simply swung a paw and smashed the Qianshan Sect disciple to the ground. A miserable scream rang out, and in an instant he was nothing but a flat cake of flesh.

To the very end, the Qianshan Sect disciple could not understand why the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast had turned on him, why it had suddenly lashed out—but that question, he would never be able to ask.

The gruesome sight left everyone present dumbstruck!

Before this, the most wretched fates had belonged to Pi Zhihai of the Hidden Pi Family and the disciples of the Fire Wolf Gang, while Wei Zhao had been an accident—but that accident was nothing at all compared to a Qianshan Sect disciple being struck dead by the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast.

"Wo Jincha!" Wo the sect master cried out in grief and fury. Wo Jincha had been one of the disciples he valued most in Qianshan Sect—otherwise he would never have let him near the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast! And yet the beast had smashed him dead. Wo the sect master could scarcely believe it!

The others exchanged glances, unable to fathom what Qianshan Sect was playing at. Wei Zhao had not died, yet their own disciple had gone in and died. Could it be that Wo the sect master and the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast had failed to communicate clearly, so the beast misunderstood and thought it was meant to kill a Qianshan Sect disciple?

At that thought, the family elders and sect masters who had taken part in the earlier matches all counted themselves lucky. Clearly the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast was not easy to reason with—if it had misunderstood and killed their disciples instead, what a disaster that would have been!

"Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast, what is the meaning of this? I told you to kill Wei Zhao—why did you kill our Qianshan Sect disciple?" Wo the sect master roared in fury.

The Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast watched Wo the sect master stamping and raging, and could not even be bothered to acknowledge him. A petty cultivator daring to point fingers at it? Did he not know it was an ancient spirit beast with the bloodline of a divine beast? If a cultivator as formidable as Wei Zhao—one who could help it advance—had cursed it, that would be one thing. But what virtue or ability did this Wo the sect master have? How dare he clamor so?

"Roar!" The Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast rolled its eyes, then swept out a paw. The cage burst apart, and the beast bounded to Wei Zhao's side, looking at him with the fawning air of one presenting a meritorious deed.

"Not bad, I suppose!" Wei Zhao said, stroking the downy fur on the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast's forehead.

"Roar, roar..." The Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast nodded again and again, as though savoring it. It had no choice but to curry favor with Wei Zhao—it was of the same mind as the Heavenly Thunder Pig at the very beginning. Advancing on its own was simply too slow, and Wei Zhao was a man of great divine powers who could raise its level. Even among the mighty ones of ancient times, few had ever been heard of with such ability, and so the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast instinctively held Wei Zhao in boundless respect!

Human martial artists revere the strong, and spirit beasts all the more so—otherwise spirit beasts could never have maintained such a rigid hierarchy of rank and suppression. Yet cultivators who could win a spirit beast's admiration were few indeed, and the Wind-Thunder Violet Lightning Beast was a proud divine beast besides. That it should humble itself so thoroughly now was entirely because it had been shaken to the core by the divine powers Wei Zhao had displayed.
