Chapter 2263 — The Pursuit
"You have a death wish!" Wu Chengtian was furious. The brute had ignored him completely and was abducting someone right in front of his eyes—did he think an early-stage Earth-rank expert like himself was worthless?
The man in black gave Wu Chengtian a cold glance, shoved him hard, and sent him staggering.
Then the man climbed into the van, and the black vehicle roared off in a cloud of dust.
Wu Chengtian was stunned. He had assumed this was an ordinary kidnapping, but the man's strength was far beyond that. True, he hadn't used his full power when he grabbed the man's arm, but he was a successor of the Iron Hand Technique—the fact that the man could break free meant he was no ordinary opponent. At the very least, he had to be a cultivator.
"Miss Gu, take everyone back first!" Wu Chengtian said urgently, then sprinted off in the direction the van had gone. Of course, he didn't expect to catch a car on foot—he was only an early-stage Earth-rank expert, not fast enough for that. But once outside the school grounds, he reached a deserted spot and shouted, "Xiaofeng!"
The Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast appeared instantly before Wu Chengtian. For the past two days, the beast and General Weiwu had been shadowing him—Wu Chengtian was the visible guard, while the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast and General Weiwu served as his hidden ones.
Wu Chengtian couldn't catch the van, but the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast had no trouble at all. He swung himself onto its back and ordered, "After that black van!"
Though the beast was somewhat displeased at being ridden by Wu Chengtian, it remembered that this man was his contract master's subordinate, tasked with protecting the master's friends. So with a rumbling growl, it shot off at lightning speed in the direction the black van had vanished.
By now it was growing dark, and the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast was leaping across rooftops and walls, so there was little risk of being seen. Even if someone did spot it, all they'd catch was a fleeting shadow—no telling what it was.
Big Mule couldn't communicate with the man in black, Test Subject No. 02, but Wu Chengtian's earlier intervention had shown him that the man was likely a cultivator—just no match for No. 02.
That had been a careless oversight. Thank goodness No. 02 was so formidable; otherwise, this kidnapping might well have failed. A botched start would have been hard to explain to An Jianwen.
As for Li Biaohan, he was drenched in cold sweat. He was sitting in a black Santana sedan, watching the whole kidnapping from a distance, and when he saw Wu Chengtian step in, he nearly jumped out of his skin—he was terrified of being exposed!
This wasn't just about his income; it was about his standing with An Jianwen. These days he'd sunk so low as to drive a retired, decommissioned Santana that had been pulled off the taxi fleet—a miserable state for someone who had once led several schools in the university district.
But what choice did he have? After compensating Wei Zhao with a car and a hefty sum, how could he afford a new one? He could only drive a two-thousand-yuan junker that belched black smoke the moment he touched the gas.
So when he saw Wu Chengtian fail to stop them and then give chase once more, Li Biaohan panicked and quickly dialed Big Mule's number.
"Hello?" Big Mule answered the Bluetooth call. "What is it?"
"Mule, that guy who tried to stop you—he's chasing after you!" Li Biaohan said.
"What? Chasing us?" Big Mule was taken aback. "In a car? I don't see any X5 following behind us."
"No—on foot!" Li Biaohan said.
"What the hell!" Big Mule suddenly let out a terrified scream, as if he'd seen a ghost, his eyes nearly popping out as he stared into the rearview mirror. Before, he hadn't sensed anything amiss—but once his vehicle turned into a narrow alley, trouble arrived. And not just trouble—big trouble!
In the mirror appeared a man and a beast. Wasn't that the very man who had tried to stop No. 02 from abducting Wang Xinyan? And his mount—what on earth was it? It looked like a horse but wasn't a horse, like an ox but wasn't an ox—more like some unicorn out of a myth!
Where had this man come from? Even if he'd been driving a tank or an armored vehicle, it wouldn't have filled Big Mule with the same dread and shock as this inexplicable creature bearing down on him!
And that wasn't all. What truly terrified him was that the thing was running faster than a car—it had already caught up in the blink of an eye and looked about to pull even.
Then the man and beast vanished from the mirror—because Big Mule turned his head and saw Wu Chengtian, mounted on that bizarre giant beast, grinning at him.
"Holy shit!" Big Mule floored the accelerator, but his clunker simply lacked the power. He had never imagined a monster like this would come chasing him—cold sweat poured down his body, and the hairs on his arms stood on end.
In truth, Wu Chengtian could only try to intimidate him; he didn't dare force the car to stop or have the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast kick it over. After all, Wang Xinyan was still inside, and she wasn't a cultivator—if the car flipped, she would never survive.
So Wu Chengtian could only wait for Big Mule to stop the car himself. Only then could he make his move.
Big Mule glanced at the giant beast running alongside him and trembled all over. A biohuman was terrifying enough—and now this thing had appeared out of nowhere!
There was no help for it. Big Mule could only dial An Jianwen's number while he drove. "Brother Wen, we've got trouble—a monster is following me!"
"What? A monster?" An Jianwen had been enjoying a novel, and Big Mule's words left him utterly baffled. "What monster? You still half asleep?"
"No, Brother Wen, there really is a monster—a man riding a beast... The beast runs incredibly fast, and it has a horn on its head..." Big Mule said.
"Oh... wait, what did you say? A horn on its head? Could it be the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast?" An Jianwen had heard the full account of the Hidden World Families Summit and knew that Wei Zhao had swindled a spirit beast from the Qianshan Sect—the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast. He'd heard it was extremely fast, and the description matched.
"Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast? What's that?" Big Mule was baffled.
"Stop the car and let No. 02 deal with them. If No. 02 loses, give Wang Xinyan back. If he wins, continue the kidnapping!" An Jianwen pondered for a moment, then made his decision.
He wasn't upset. If the Wind-Thunder Purple Lightning Beast intervened, then any failure really wasn't his fault! (To be continued) RQ
