Chapter 2695 — T012 520521 Special Chapter 2
"Oh, Yao Yao, how did you know I was talking about you? It must be that what's on your mind comes out of your mouth," Shen Yushu said in surprise.
"Tang Yun is here," Gu Mengyao said helplessly, pointing into the distance.
"Oh..." Shen Yushu looked up and indeed saw Tang Yun walking toward them, and she shut her mouth in resignation.
"Be polite when Tang Yun gets here. You promised me you'd become friends with her," Gu Mengyao reminded Shen Yushu.
"All right, all right, I know. At most I won't attack her. But I can't just turn good all at once—that's not an easy switch to make!" Shen Yushu said.
Tang Yun walked over and pulled open the car door, a little surprised that the driver was Gu Mengyao rather than Wei Zhao. "What... it's you two? Where's Wei Zhao?"
"Wei Zhao left early today. Xiaoshu and I came to pick you up," Gu Mengyao said. "Isn't today the school's traditional confession day? Xiaoshu wants to confess to Wei Zhao, and she wanted to ask whether you'd agree to it."
"Huh? She... confess to Wei Zhao?" Tang Yun was struck dumb for a moment, caught off guard by Gu Mengyao's question. "Then... then why are you telling me... what does it have to do with me..."
"You're Wei Zhao's girlfriend, so of course we have to ask your opinion," Gu Mengyao said, not quite sure whether she was asking for herself or for Xiaoshu—but she told herself it was for Xiaoshu, because only when she was asking on someone else's behalf could she get the words out.
"I... this... that's her freedom..." It would have been a lie to say Tang Yun didn't know that Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu liked Wei Zhao; during the days when Wei Zhao was injured by Ma Zhu, Tang Yun had seen in her heart how much the two of them cared for him.
Besides, when Wei Zhao had wanted to return to West Star Mountain Village, Gu Mengyao had been determined to go with him. If Tang Yun still hadn't caught on, she would have been far too insensitive! She was a girl, and she understood some things better than Wei Zhao did. Though Gu Mengyao kept saying she didn't like Wei Zhao, Tang Yun felt that even if she didn't like him, she surely had feelings for him—and Shen Yushu certainly did like Wei Zhao.
Though she had known all this for a while, hearing Gu Mengyao say it so openly still left Tang Yun at a loss for how to answer. She was a traditional girl too—how could she accept such a thing all at once?
So when she hadn't been able to go back to West Star Mountain Village with Wei Zhao, she had felt disappointed and relieved at the same time. After all, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu couldn't go back with them. At school, Wei Zhao was merely Gu Mengyao's follower and bodyguard, but back in West Star Mountain Village, in what capacity would the two of them stay by Wei Zhao's side?
At first they might be friends, but over time? They would surely become lovers. And then would Tang Yun accept it or not? If she didn't accept it, could she really send them packing? Of course not. So Tang Yun had no choice but to accept.
Even with that mental preparation, Tang Yun was still somewhat conflicted.
"All right, Yun Yun, I was just joking with you—don't take it seriously. Xiaoshu's just like that, going around all day proclaiming she likes Wei Zhao. But if she really liked him, something would have happened between them long ago—a lone man and a lone woman living in the same villa. Do you really believe they'd still be the way they are now?" Gu Mengyao had only been probing; seeing Tang Yun at a loss, she changed tack and said with a smile.
"Oh... I know..." Tang Yun nodded. Though she felt relieved, something about it still seemed off—as if Gu Mengyao were only comforting her?
But in truth, Tang Yun had long since prepared for the worst. Some things—the more you guard against them and reject them, the more trouble they cause. Better to let nature take its course. Wei Zhao's choice was Tang Yun's choice.
Tang Yun got into the car, and Gu Mengyao started it and drove to a gift shop.
"Why are we here?" Tang Yun asked, puzzled.
"Xiaoshu is going to confess to Wei Zhao this afternoon, so she's buying a gift. Yun Yun, do you want to buy one too?" Gu Mengyao asked.
"Me... I'd better not..." Tang Yun forced a smile. She was Wei Zhao's girlfriend—and now she was supposed to confess to Wei Zhao together with Shen Yushu? However she looked at it, it felt wrong. Better not to confess at all.
"Oh, Xiaoshu, then just buy a card to show your feelings. No need for any real gift." Noticing Tang Yun's dejected mood, Gu Mengyao said to Shen Yushu.
"Okay..." This time Shen Yushu actually listened to Gu Mengyao and didn't argue. She got out and went into the gift shop, returning a short while later with a red card in her hand, a big heart printed on it.
Tang Yun pretended not to see it, but on the way to school she was rather quiet... and once they arrived, she didn't say much either, walking silently toward Class Nine of the twelfth grade.
Watching Tang Yun's receding figure, Gu Mengyao suddenly felt a pang in her heart, as if she shouldn't have indulged Xiaoshu's antics any longer. She snatched the card from Shen Yushu's hand.
"Yao Yao, what are you doing?" Shen Yushu asked, startled and bewildered.
"Don't give this card. You can confess whenever you want—there's no need for it to be today," Gu Mengyao said.
"Oh..." Shen Yushu was a little sullen. "A little wife has no human rights!"
"So you do know you're the little wife—then why aren't you behaving? When has a little wife ever had human rights in front of the first wife?" Gu Mengyao snorted.
"Then if you admit you're the first wife, I'll do what you say," Shen Yushu said.
"Fine, I'll grudgingly admit it," Gu Mengyao said, brushing her off.
"Oh, recording complete!" Shen Yushu happily held up the voice recorder in her hand. "I'm going to play it for Brother Jianpai."
"He won't know I meant his first wife," Gu Mengyao said with a dismissive curl of her lip.
"Well, now he will, won't he? You confessed without being asked," Shen Yushu said.
"..." Gu Mengyao was speechless for a moment, then snatched the recorder out of Shen Yushu's hand. "I'll teach you to record me!"
"..." Shen Yushu's joy turned to grief.
The heart-shaped card was passed on by Gu Mengyao to Wei Zhao, for him to give to Tang Yun that afternoon. Wei Zhao was rather puzzled—the young lady had gone out that morning just to buy him a card? Wasn't her concern for him a little beyond the ordinary?
That afternoon, the school playground grew incredibly lively. Most of the twelfth-grade students stood in their own class groups, though for all the bustle, very few actually went up on stage to confess their feelings to their crush in front of the whole grade.
After all, boldness is rare at this green, inexperienced age. Many people have someone they secretly admire, but they don't necessarily speak of it—and of those who do speak, how many actually end up together?
