" Shen Mu threw him aside and looked at Qi Jiuyi.
Qi Jiuyi was on his guard: "Fine, be excited, but don't you dare throw me! " The Dragon Qilin climbed to his feet, shook himself, and gazed at the road paved with white jade slabs, saying joyfully, "Sect Master, can we finally get out? " The two men and one beast were beside themselves with joy. They sprinted at full pelt, vaulted onto the slabs, and dashed leaping and bounding into the darkness. Three months later, Shen Mu, his eyes void, dragged the Dragon Qilin in a leap and landed feebly upon the next slab.
Qi Jiuyi jumped over behind them, then flopped onto the Dragon Qilin's head and went limp.
Shen Mu tugged on the Dragon Qilin's tail and hurled him forward with all his strength, sending the Dragon Qilin and Qi Jiuyi together tumbling onto the next slab. He leapt over, seized Qi Jiuyi by the collar, and raised his fist to strike.
Qi Jiuyi did not resist but let the blows land on his handsome face, saying weakly, "Go on, hit me.
Hit me as much as you like—just beat me to death. .
. " Shen Mu threw two punches and lost the will for it.
He flung Qi Jiuyi aside, and Qi Jiuyi lay sprawled on the slab, arms and legs flung wide. The Dragon Qilin sat up groggily and plopped himself down right on top of him.
He opened his eyes, licked his lips, and said, "Crimson Fire Spirit Pills taste the best. I had a dream—the Sect Master made me ever so many Crimson Fire Spirit Pills, enough to fill a world, with spirit pills everywhere.
. .
I ran and ran, I ran for I don't know how long and still never found the end. I rolled around in the ocean of pills, frolicked, ran on tiptoe, and dove into the sea of pills for a swim.
. . Sect Master, there's a door ahead! " Shen Mu looked and could not help weeping for joy.
He laughed, "Brother Qi, there's a gate! A gate!
" Qi Jiuyi was pinned beneath the Dragon Qilin's rear, with only half a leg left sticking out. He kicked weakly, trying to crawl free but unable to. In a muffled voice he said, "The Dao Gate has been shut in here too—they can't get out either. . . leave me alone. . .
" Shen Mu, wild with joy, sprinted straight for that door, and the Dragon Qilin hastily scrambled up and ran after him, weeping as he went.
Qi Jiuyi sat up, the plumes behind his head crushed askew, and said faintly, "Is that Master Lin Xuan of the Dao Gate? That little cow-nose. . .
hmph, so the Dao Gate really exists! " Qi Jiuyi wept for joy, his face blooming like a flower.
Waving his arms and dancing, he hopped and skipped toward that door. He had just reached the last slab, before that very door, when he saw Shen Mu charge through the doorway first, and the Dragon Qilin dash in second—and as he passed, the Dragon Qilin kicked the door, which slammed shut with a bang, leaving Qi Jiuyi barred outside. Qi Jiuyi was furious.
He hurriedly wrenched the door open and rushed in, only to find a long corridor, with doors lining both sides. Qi Jiuyi collapsed.
He lay on the ground, clutching the Dragon Qilin's tail to let himself be dragged along: "With this many doors, when will we ever see the end? And anyway, once we do get out, the bodies we left outside have been dead for I don't know how long. .
. " Just then, a door creaked open, and a head poked out: "Who are you?
Why are you here? " The Dragon Qilin kicked out a leg, sending Qi Jiuyi flying against the wall, and curiously studied the stranger.
