The Dao-rhyme of this Heavenly Palace grew stronger and stronger as well, until at last it could stand comparison with the Great Luo Divine Sense Heavenly Palace, and was mightier even than the Divine Sense Heavenly Palace! In the Great Void Youdu, the starved ghosts and the black sand of souls seemed drawn to him, gathering ceaselessly about him, more and more of them, yet none daring to come near.
More and more howling black tornadoes spun around him, lifting starved ghost after starved ghost into the air.
The black tornadoes wove through and devoured one another, growing ever greater, until seen from afar a hundred-odd black columns reared to the heavens, vast beyond measure, whirling madly about a single spot, a sight of utter terror. Hu Mengdie, with several divine generals in her train, was the first to find this place, and at the sight of those dark tornadoes she could not help but frown. The power of those black tornadoes was frightful in the extreme; about them lightning flashed and thunder rolled, lighting up the scene within, where no one could say how many starved ghosts were caught in the gale, flailing hand and foot.
"That Mu Heavenly Master is somewhere nearby.
Could he have sensed our coming and hidden himself away in this perilous place? " The several divine generals under Hu Mengdie's command each opened their sacred pupils and gazed toward that region of darkness, yet could not see clearly; their eyes could pierce only the outer darkness, for strange visions within blocked their sight.
Hu Mengdie's cultivation was the highest, an existence of the Lingxiao realm. She opened her sacred pupils and looked toward the heart of the darkness, and her heart gave a sudden leap.
There in the dark she saw world after world blooming outward like bubbles, only to burst with a pop and be annihilated, whereupon new worlds were born, a thing utterly uncanny.
Even she did not know what frightful thing lay within. Hu Mengdie waved her hand lightly, and the divine generals escorted her as they sped toward that dark region.
Before long they stepped into the darkness.
The divine generals each sent their primordial spirits out of their bodies, and a great divine radiance blazed forth as their spirits took their stand in the Jade Capital City, or before the Lingxiao Treasure Hall, to suppress the darkness. Yet the darkness here was too strong; the black sand still crept slowly onward, leaving all before their eyes a vast grey murk, so that they could not pierce it and see what lay ahead.
Long did they walk in the darkness, when suddenly the pressure lifted, as though they had passed through a bubble, and light blazed out before their eyes.
Hu Mengdie and the others looked about: here were green hills and clear waters, sun and moon bright and pure. The world was not large, but what was uncanny was that ring-shaped rainbows kept sliding with a hum from one end of the world to the other. On they walked, and suddenly trod upon a skeleton.
Hu Mengdie looked down.
The bones had lain dead for who knew how many years. The several of them exchanged glances and each bade the others take care.
Then they saw what lay ahead, and could not help but be aghast.
Before them countless white bones were piled into mountains.
Many people, from whence none could tell, were hauling up corpses and casting them down from the heights; the corpses went tumbling and rolling down the mountain, and in the rolling their flesh and blood melted away and became white bone. Horror seized every heart.
Hu Mengdie looked at the corpses so freshly thrown down, and they had the very appearance of Shen Mu! "The Mu Heavenly Master is dead?
" She was somewhat dazed.
Then she saw those who carried the corpses, and her heart was profoundly shaken: those people were Shen Mu as well! "Everyone, take care. This place is exceedingly uncanny!
" Scarcely had she spoken when another rainbow light came from the horizon, sweeping shrouded across the sky.
