Chapter 1333 — Sovereign of All Beasts

The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 1 of 2

Lan Yutian had no particular impression of these worldly morals and saw nothing amiss in them; Xu Shenghua wore the same expression the year round and betrayed no change of countenance either; the other followers, however, broke into an uproar. "The reason the Great Emperor is so set on doing away with Divine Emperor Langxuan is that Gong Yun dashed to death the son she bore the Great Emperor, yet left alive Langxuan, the son she bore Taichu.

" "That is precisely the reason," said Tai Yi. "The Great Emperor has always loathed the sight of Langxuan.

He reasoned that if his own son by Gong Yun was dead, then Taichu's son by Gong Yun must die as well. " "Truly, the Primordial Age was a tangle," said Xu Shenghua.

Tai Yi laughed.

"It has always been a tangle.

You see Langxuan now taking a beating with no chance to strike back, but the next moment it will be the Great Emperor who takes the beating. " Everyone raised their heads and looked up into the sky.

This was the Sea of Chaos; sheltered by the Sea of Chaos and by Tai Yi's staff, they remained untouched no matter how ferocious the battle above. Indeed, as the Great Emperor had said, Divine Emperor Langxuan had failed to fully fuse the Way of Divine Consciousness with the Innate Primordial Qi.

He had comprehended only that one move; turn it over as he might, his primordial spirit possessed but a single divine art, called the One Finger of Divine Origin. The One Finger of Divine Origin was the first of the Taichu divine arts.

Not to speak of Heavenly Venerable Hao, even the Heavenly Emperor Taichu himself did not possess this art; alas, the Great Emperor was now on his guard, and the move could hardly take effect. Divine Emperor Langxuan was trapped in a passive beating; his neck had nearly been severed by the Great Emperor, and facing him his wounds grew ever graver.

Fortunately he had the One Finger of Divine Origin, a great divine art that gave him the power to threaten the Great Emperor; otherwise his defeat would have come faster and more miserably. And deep in the void, Shen Mu employed his own great divine art, the Ferry of the Other Shore Divine Ark, crossing the void in flight, threading through the twenty-ninth layer of the void, so that the pressure of the void could do nothing to him.

Yet if he dispersed this great divine art, he could not remain in the twenty-ninth void; the pressure was too great and would endanger his very self.

His divine art was like an ark to the other shore; standing at the prow of that ark-shaped power, he watched the battle between the Great Emperor and Langxuan and said in amazement, "Divine Emperor Langxuan is remarkable after all. This move of his must be a divine art evolved from the finger strike with which God King Gong Yun gouged out the vertical eye from the Great Emperor's brow, and fused with the Innate Primordial Qi besides. Truly formidable!

" The ten Heavenly Venerables each had their own divine arts, each with something to make one's eyes light up.

First there was Heavenly Venerable Hao, who had overpowered the Great Emperor, shifting between the Way of Guixu and the Innate Primordial Qi like one and zero, in a manner beyond all fathoming.

Then came Divine Emperor Langxuan's One Finger of Divine Origin, revealing the might of the Taichu Great Way for the first time — brilliance overflowing.

He watched with keen relish. Just as Langxuan was about to be killed under the Great Emperor's assault, the sky suddenly blazed with incomparable brilliance: the forty-nine treasures of the heavenly dao came crashing down at once, each treasure bursting with the might of the heavenly dao, battering the Great Emperor until his body swayed and his steps faltered. "The Ancestral God King has struck!

" Shen Mu clenched his fists in elation — but at that very moment the Other Shore Divine Ark beneath his feet turned ethereal and vanished.

Joy turning to sorrow, Shen Mu was instantly crushed and rendered ethereal by the twenty-ninth void. His form sank, plunging into the twenty-eighth void; then his divine art erupted, he hoisted sail once more and slipped back into the twenty-ninth void.

With the power of his divine art he could have carried himself into the thirtieth void, but if the art dispersed, the thirtieth void would be far too perilous for him; staying in the twenty-ninth void was the safer course.

The aftershocks of the Great Emperor's and Divine Emperor Langxuan's divine arts, by the time they reached this place, were exceedingly faint and posed little threat to him. But should he fall into the twenty-eighth void, the threat to him would rise greatly.

Though the Ancestral God King's forty-nine treasures of the heavenly dao had battered the Great Emperor until he staggered, they had not yet threatened his life.

Yet the next moment the forty-nine treasures joined in perfect union, merging two by two, and combined into a single supreme treasure.

It was a strange treasure with the Heavenly Pillar for a shaft, the various treasures — the Heavenly Well, the Heavenly Mystery, the Heavenly Cord, the Heavenly Origin, the Heavenly Disk, the Heavenly Weft — clinging to the pillar, so that this weapon was thick in some places and thin in others, in some places like a saber and in others like a spear. A great hand seized the middle of the Heavenly Pillar.

The Ancestral God King's crimson cloak snapped and flapped; he whirled the supreme treasure aloft, his body suddenly spinning, the weapon shifting form, and with the Heavenly Saber at its head it rang out with a clang and slashed into the Great Emperor's waist. The Great Emperor grunted, staggering back, blood flowing at his waist. The supreme treasure formed of the forty-nine treasures of the heavenly dao was terrifying in power, enough to threaten him.

The Ancestral God King swung up that supreme treasure of the heavenly dao, reversed the blade, and smashed the haft at the Great Emperor. At the haft the Heavenly Bell floated and swayed; with a great boom the heavenly note reverberated, blasting the Great Emperor's divine consciousness and scattering it into disorder.

The Ancestral God King stepped forward; the Heavenly Bell fell back to the second line, and he took the Heavenly Ridge as his weapon.

The Heavenly Ridge was like a tower, and he used it as a hammer, bringing it down on the Great Emperor's crown.

On the other side, Langxuan recovered his senses, reattached his neck, and again drove the One Finger of Divine Origin into the Great Emperor's brow. With the two Heavenly Venerables joining hands, the tide of battle turned at once.

The Great Emperor retreated again and again, fending off the attacks of the two great Heavenly Venerables, but he attacked little and defended much, and wound after wound opened on his body. Shen Mu clenched his fists in elation, his eyes fixed on the Great Emperor's brow.

The Taichu Primordial Stone was there.

It would not be long, surely, before that stone was crushed out, and then he could take it back. Suddenly his gaze inadvertently caught the Void Mother Beast in the distance, and he was startled.

The Void Mother Beast had hidden herself in the seventeenth void, and countless void beasts were surging toward the seventeenth void like a tide.

"The Great Emperor still has strength to spare to command these void beasts?

What does he intend? " Scarcely had the thought crossed his mind when he saw the Void Mother Beast's eyelids roll upward, revealing an enormous maw — and those giant void beasts, in neat ranks, were filing into the Mother Beast's mouth.

Within the Mother Beast's maw countless sharp teeth revolved of themselves, shredding and devouring the void beasts that walked into her mouth.

Shen Mu was stunned. The Void Mother Beast's frame swelled at a speed visible to the naked eye, growing larger and larger, the void patterns on her hide growing ever more distinct.

This Void Mother Beast had originally been an ordinary void beast.
