Chapter 1572 — See You Off

The Blossom Guardian

"Nothing's wrong with him? Are we watching a stunt film or what?" one of the students seated by the window exclaimed in astonishment.

The students in the other seats all crowded over as well, and sure enough, they saw that the yellow-haired youth was perfectly fine - and the playground below, which they had expected to be slick with blood, was spotless.

Hearing that the yellow-haired youth was unharmed, Wang Xinyan let out a breath of relief. She glanced at Wei Zhao with a trace of gratitude, but said nothing - for Young Master You was still standing right beside her.

"Are you going to take the exam, or get out of here? Or shall I give you a send-off - feeling like Superman? Want to enjoy the ride of a human cannonball?" Wei Zhao asked, eyeing Young Master You.

"I... Hmph! Just wait and see!" Young Master You glared at Wei Zhao and spat out the words with venom. Though he did not understand what had just happened, there was no reason for him to stay any longer. He could no longer threaten Wang Xinyan, so naturally he would not be able to answer a single question during the exam. What was the point of remaining here and wasting his time?

Besides, Young Master You was eager to track down the yellow-haired Brother Wen at once and get to the bottom of it - to ask him what on earth had happened just now, why he had not fought back, and instead been hurled off the building by Wei Zhao!

"Oh," Wei Zhao replied with perfect indifference.

Young Master You felt his face burn with humiliation at once. Such grandstanding words, and the man had not even taken them seriously! If Wei Zhao had so much as said "Who's afraid of who?", it would have been better than this. As it was, Wei Zhao's single, simple "oh" was nothing short of a complete dismissal.

Young Master You shot Wei Zhao a look full of venom and malice, burned his face and the name on his admission ticket into memory, then strode out of the examination room without looking back.

The moment Young Master You had gone, the candidates in the room burst into uproarious laughter. What Wei Zhao had done was nothing short of deeply satisfying to all.

Earlier, seeing Young Master You and the yellow-haired youth glaring like demons, they had felt nothing but disgust - yet no one had dared say a word. After all, everyone was here to take an exam, and no one wanted to stir up trouble. A little forbearance, if that was what it took, was not such a heavy price.

But what Wei Zhao had done gave voice to their own feelings, and naturally they were delighted. Several of them broke into spontaneous applause.

"You weren't too frightened, were you? It won't affect your composure for the exam, will it?" Wei Zhao turned to ask Wang Xinyan.

"No, I'm fine..." Wang Xinyan shook her head. "And about earlier... thank you, truly."

"That's nothing." Wei Zhao had been about to ask Wang Xinyan how things had been resolved back in Yanjing, but just then the pre-examination bell rang out, clearly signaling that the college entrance examination was about to begin. With the sound of the bell, the invigilators also stepped into the room.

The classroom fell hushed in an instant. Wei Zhao smiled at Wang Xinyan, said nothing more, and settled into a focused state, ready for the exam.

Thoroughly humiliated by Wei Zhao, Young Master You had lost all desire to continue with the examination. No sooner had he stepped out of the teaching building than he spotted the yellow-haired youth waiting on the playground. A surge of fury welled up inside him, and he barked out: "What kind of stunt are you pulling? How could you let him throw you down? Do you really want to be an airplane? Why didn't you teach him a lesson? You made your young master lose face!"

"Young Master You, it's not that I didn't want to - it's that the opponent is too strong. He's a fighter at the peak of the early Profound Realm, a full level above me! Against him I have absolutely no chance of winning, not even room to resist!" the yellow-haired youth said with a bitter smile.

"What! You're saying he's a fighter at the peak of the early Profound Realm? How is that possible? How could a small place like Songshan City house such a formidable fighter?" Young Master You was greatly taken aback by the yellow-haired youth's words. "Could it be that there are hidden clans here too?"

"I haven't heard of any hidden clans around here, though there are a few scions of established families. But in our clan's records, I've never seen this person among the younger generation..." the yellow-haired youth replied.

"Could he be an independent cultivator?" Young Master You blinked.

"That's certainly possible!" the yellow-haired youth nodded, for beyond that he could think of no other explanation.

"I truly didn't expect it - that a backwater like Songshan City would harbor hidden dragons and crouching tigers! Had I known sooner, I would have come here for some fun!" Young Master You declared with immense pride. In saying so, he was placing himself on a very high pedestal, using it as an excuse to gloss over the humiliation Wei Zhao had inflicted on him earlier.

What he meant was that he had never given the cultivators here a second glance before, but now it seemed they were at least somewhat interesting - he had simply underestimated his opponent.

"Nothing but a few shrimp and crabs - how could they possibly catch the eye of Young Master You?" the yellow-haired youth flattered. "Young Master You, Purple-Hair and the others aren't in this examination room. Should I give them a call to come over?"

Purple-Hair was another one of Young Master You's entourage, also a skilled fighter recruited by the You clan. These people, to put it plainly, were cultivators who had been marginalized by other hidden clans and minor sects, and so they had pledged their allegiance to the Hidden You Clan. With the vast supply of pills and medicinal elixirs the Hidden You Clan lavished upon them, they had made some real progress on the path of cultivation.

Young Master You was not originally a student here in Songshan City. He had gotten into trouble at his school in Donghai City - he had injured a disciple of a sect who had been sent out to manage its finances, and even the Hidden You Clan could no longer shield him. They could only send Young Master You to transfer to Songshan City to lay low for a while, and his entourage naturally followed along.

But after Young Master You transferred, he had not attended a single day of classes in Songshan City - he had simply spent every day eating, drinking, and carousing.

For Young Master You, the college entrance examination was merely a formality. With the Hidden You Clan's wealth, getting into university was no problem at all. However, the patriarch of the You clan was an alchemist and a scholar at heart - he placed great value on academics, and naturally wanted his clan's younger generation to earn their places in university through genuine merit.

But Young Master You was not a direct descendant of the Hidden You Clan, so even if he did manage to get into university, it would only earn the patriarch a passing smile and perhaps some token reward - something Young Master You did not particularly care about.

"Get him over here! I must teach this kid a lesson - otherwise what face will I, Second Young Master You, have left to show?" Young Master You spat through gritted teeth. "Not only Purple-Hair, call Blue-Hair and the others over too. One at the mid Profound Realm, one at the peak of the early Profound Realm - I refuse to believe we can't bring him down!"

"Alright, I'll make the call right now!" the yellow-haired youth nodded.
