Chapter 1786 — Old Friends

The Blossom Guardian

It was as if more than half of Wei Zhao's heat had been drawn away by Shen Yushu!

This bizarre phenomenon left Gu Mengyao and Tang Yun somewhat dumbfounded. Just what kind of skill was this of Shen Yushu's? How was it like some sort of supernatural ability?

"Xiaoshu, are you... all right?" Gu Mengyao asked instinctively.

"It's just so, so hot, but I can bear it!" Shen Yushu said. "I think I want to help Brother Jianpai share some of the heat too, so he should feel a bit better..."

"Truly amazing!" Tang Yun stared at Shen Yushu, whose face was flushed red, astonishment beyond measure in her heart. Shen Yushu seemed unafraid of the heat, did she? But that wasn't right either — she was the one most afraid of heat. The moment summer came she would complain of the heat and beg her to help cool her down!

Or, more precisely, Xiaoshu was the one most tolerant of heat! Though she feared it, the heat posed no danger to her at all. If anyone else were subjected to the temperature she was enduring, they would long since have dropped dead!

This was somewhat similar to Feng Xiaoxiao back then. Though Feng Xiaoxiao was the one most afraid of the cold, she was also the most resistant to it — frozen inside an ice coffin, she was perfectly fine, whereas an ordinary person could never have endured it.

Just as the few of them were studying this wondrous phenomenon of Shen Yushu's, Old Man Wei returned to his own room and swiftly took a small wooden box out from beneath his headboard. If one looked closely — if Wei Zhao had been present — one would have been astonished to discover that this small wooden box was identical to the one Wei Zhao had obtained from the cave!

Old Man Wei quickly opened the little box, yet inside there was no martial arts manual, nor any heaven-defying artifact — there was only a delicately crafted communicator! And Old Man Wei did not hesitate; he pressed the button on the communicator directly!

Old Man Wei did not know whether he would get a response, but at this moment he had to do this, because matters had developed beyond his expectations! He was himself a divine physician, and upon seeing Wei Zhao's condition he could conclude outright that the strange phenomenon afflicting Wei Zhao was neither illness nor the work of some fire poison!

But Old Man Wei understood nothing of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art, nor had he ever practiced it, so the only thing he could do was contact that person...

Hopefully this communicator still worked, hopefully he could reach that person... Otherwise, Wei Zhao was truly in danger!

Fortunately the communicator seemed to have no problems at all. After Old Man Wei pressed the button on it, the indicator light on the communicator blinked a few times, as though it were connecting to something...

After a while the communicator connected smoothly, and from it came a deep, resonant voice: "Mr. Lin? Run into trouble?"

"It's Xiaoyi. After Xiaoyi opened the stone door to the second level of the cave, he began practicing the second level of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art, but afterward his whole body grew unbearably hot..." With that, Old Man Wei hurriedly recounted Wei Zhao's condition from beginning to end.

"That's not right? How could that be? How could such a thing happen?" The person on the other end of the communicator was clearly taken aback as well, finding it somewhat inconceivable.

"By the way, aren't you a divine prognosticator? How come you didn't foresee this problem?" Old Man Wei asked.

"The matters concerning Xiaoyi... are not something I can divine..." The person on the other end of the communicator gave a bitter laugh. "Last time I tried to divine his affairs, I made an error. His matters cannot be judged by ordinary reasoning..."

"Then what do we do now?" Old Man Wei asked.

"I'll come over at once. Wait for me!" said the person on the other end.

"Can you get away from there? Is there no problem?" Old Man Wei asked.

"The reason I stayed here back then, instead of following the master to that place... was precisely in order to..." At this point the person on the other end paused a moment, then said: "Never mind that. I'm coming over at once!"

"Good. I'll wait for you." Old Man Wei breathed a sigh of relief. If this person stepped in, the problem might well be solved.

Having finished the call, Old Man Wei quickly returned to Wei Zhao's room, where he was met with this most wondrous sight!

"Xiaoshu, what are you..." Old Man Wei stared at Shen Yushu, somewhat dumbstruck, and exclaimed in amazement: "You... you can actually conduct heat?"

"Yes indeed. I figure this way Brother Jianpai can get some relief... otherwise I'm afraid he'll be burned to death..." Shen Yushu felt that she could share part of the heat for Wei Zhao, so that his condition would not grow any worse.

"That will do!" Though astonished, Old Man Wei nodded all the same. Since Xiaoshu had this peculiar constitution, then let her share part of the heat for Wei Zhao for the time being. And as for Shen Yushu, though he said nothing of it, Old Man Wei grew ever more curious about her!

Wei Zhao had mentioned before that Xiaoshu's body seemed to have been poisoned by fire, yet from Old Man Wei's observations during this time, Xiaoshu was entirely normal and showed no problems at all. It was only at this moment that Old Man Wei realized he had misjudged her!

Moreover, this was absolutely not any fire poison. Could someone poisoned by fire poison still share another's heat? In such a scorching environment, the fire poison would long since have been triggered and killed her — how could she possibly be perfectly fine?

Yet strange as it was, Old Man Wei had no mind now to study the matter of Shen Yushu; Wei Zhao's problem was the priority. Although that person had already agreed to come, West Star Mountain Village was far away, and Old Man Wei was burning with anxiety...

"Yawn..." Shen Yushu yawned. She was somewhat sleepy. It was already deep into the night, and she still sat by Wei Zhao's side, her hand touching his shoulder without daring to move it away. As for Wei Zhao, Old Man Wei had covered him with a thin blanket; because Xiaoshu was helping him share most of the heat, the blanket had not been scorched through.

"Xiaoshu, if you're sleepy, go and rest..." Old Man Wei looked at how Xiaoshu was drowsy to the point of collapse and could not bear to let her keep sharing the burden. After all, it was plain to see that although this task posed no threat to her life, it was nevertheless extremely painful.

"No way. If I go to sleep, what if Brother Jianpai burns up?" Shen Yushu shook her head.

"How about this... Xiaoshu, you hold Wei Zhao while you sleep. Wouldn't that work?" Tang Yun said after a moment's hesitation. Though the decision made her a little uncomfortable inside, for the sake of Wei Zhao's safety she could only let Xiaoshu have this advantage!

After all, Tang Yun herself had never slept so intimately beside Wei Zhao. But Wei Zhao's condition now allowed no delay; if Xiaoshu left and Wei Zhao really did burn up with some complication, Tang Yun would regret it beyond remedy.
