Chapter 1875 — Strange Behavior, Part One
Having learned his lesson, this time he did not dare make casual recommendations, and instead asked directly, "Students, what sort of house are you looking to rent?"
"We want to buy a house," Wei Zhao said.
Wei Zhao's words drew the sidelong glances of the girl and boy who had been renting earlier; and the beautiful girl looked toward Wei Zhao with a flicker of something strange in her eyes—surprise, excitement—though she quickly concealed it, turned her head away, and went back to discussing the rental matter with the agent.
An ordinary person might not have noticed that peculiar look in the beautiful girl's eyes, but Wei Zhao's perception was keen beyond measure, and naturally he did not fail to catch this small detail. What puzzled him, however, was that he did not know this girl at all. What did she mean by it?
"Ah... buying a house..." The agent was taken aback as well. Though quite a few people came here to buy homes, most of them were schoolteachers or staff, or else parents accompanying their children in their studies; students buying houses for themselves were exceedingly rare.
"Yes. Are there any villas around here?" Since Wei Zhao was living with Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, and given the eldest young lady's fondness for avoiding gossip, a detached house of their own would naturally be best, lest others discover she was "cohabiting" with a young man.
"A villa?!" The agent was slightly startled, but glancing at the Grand Cherokee parked outside the door, he thought to himself that these must be three children from wealthy families; perhaps among this man and two women, one was the young man's girlfriend, and the other girl was someone's younger sister.
"Yes. Are there any for sale nearby? Ideally already furnished, so one could move right in," Wei Zhao said.
"Ah, there are!" Though the agent inwardly sighed at these children spending their parents' money, at the thought of the handsome commission from selling a villa, he perked up as if on stimulants, opened his laptop, entered the search criteria, and displayed all the nearby villas that met the requirements to Wei Zhao and the others. "They're all here. There are three villas for sale near here; farther out there are more—over a dozen villas in the vicinity are on the market."
"And the furnished ones?" Wei Zhao nodded and asked. Had he known the agent suspected him of being a child spending his parents' money, Wei Zhao might have wondered what to think—for this was all money he had swindled from An Jianwen!
"There are. These two both are—one simply furnished, one finely furnished. Both are in the nearby Xue Shang residential area; the layouts and sizes are the same, but the prices differ. The finely furnished one is much more expensive," the agent said.
"Sister Yao, let's take this one. That other one is too luxurious—a bit unsuitable for us, too extravagant." Shen Yushu pointed at the simply furnished villa on the computer screen. "This simply furnished one is just right, about the same as what we had in Songshan City."
"All right. Wei Zhao, what do you think?" Gu Mengyao nodded and looked toward Wei Zhao.
"Then this one it is." Wei Zhao nodded casually and asked, "How much?"
Hearing Shen Yushu call Gu Mengyao "Sister Yao," the agent suddenly understood: this girl must surely be the young man's younger sister, and the one called "Sister Yao" must be the young man's girlfriend!
He was gloating over his successful deduction when he suddenly heard Wei Zhao ask the price. He was slightly taken aback—ordinarily, buyers would examine a property carefully before inquiring about the price, yet Wei Zhao had asked after only a few brief glances.
"The asking price for this villa is nine million five hundred thousand, but the owner says it's negotiable," the agent said, honestly stating the bottom line.
"Hmm..." Wei Zhao roughly estimated the price. For a provincial capital like Donghai City, this price was on the cheap side, but since the university town was in a remote area, lower housing prices were only natural. So Wei Zhao more or less made up his mind. "Call the owner and ask—if it's nine million, we'll view the house and pay today."
"Ah... all right!" The agent was stunned. He had not expected Wei Zhao to be so decisive! Nine million five hundred thousand was negotiable; in the agent's view, getting it for nine million would be no problem at all. To think he had closed such a big deal in one stroke!
Sure enough, after hearing the offer, the owner pondered for a moment and agreed—because Wei Zhao was paying in cash, in a single lump sum, which suited the owner just fine.
"Done. I've arranged to meet the owner—we can go view the house now!" the agent said with a nod.
"Good. You lead the way; I'll drive," Wei Zhao said with a nod.
As Wei Zhao and the others went out, the beautiful girl who had been looking at houses earlier put down the mouse and stopped browsing. She said to the agent before her, "I don't want to rent anymore."
"Huh? Not renting?" The agent was slightly startled, wondering how he had offended this customer. But if she no longer wanted to rent, one could hardly force her, could one? Could it be that his earlier remark about the brother and sister being a couple had displeased them?
"Yes, I've changed my mind. We're buying a house too," the beautiful girl said.
"What? Buying?" The agent's eyes went wide. Seeing that the beautiful girl did not look to be joking, he finally confirmed he had not misheard. He was utterly bewildered—strange things happened every day, but today they came in droves! First those three bought a house, and now this brother and sister wanted to buy one too!
Could it be that all the wealthy students had gathered in one place?
But looking at these sisters, they seemed rather plainly dressed; though the beautiful girl was styled youthfully, her clothes could not possibly be too expensive—as a real estate agent, he could tell at a glance.
Yet those three who had bought earlier—had they not arrived in a car, who would have known they were rich? Their clothing was hardly lavish either, all of it very ordinary casual wear, and yet they could afford a villa!
"Yes. Near that villa they were looking at earlier, isn't there another one with luxurious furnishings?" the beautiful girl asked.
"Yes..." the agent nodded instinctively.
"I'll take it," the beautiful girl said.
"What?" The agent's eyes went wide, and he stared at the beautiful girl before him in disbelief. He felt an urge to shout—he was going mad! A moment ago she had been a girl wanting to rent a house, and now she had abruptly turned around and wanted to buy a villa! Was this real? Or was she joking?
"Sir, what's the matter? I want to buy a villa—is something wrong with that?" The beautiful girl frowned slightly and asked.
"N-no... nothing... That villa... twelve million, with luxury furnishings..." the agent ventured cautiously.
