Chapter 1940 — New Neighbors

The Blossom Guardian

"Then... I'll go and get on with the preparations." Granny Sun, too embarrassed to say anything more, turned and went back into the kitchen.

Before long, the sound of a car came from beyond the courtyard. Wei Zhao, Gu Mengyao, and Xiaoshu guessed it might be Uncle Qing and hurried out to greet him—but when they got outside, it was not Uncle Qing's car at all, but a BMW X5 M, parked right in front of the villa next door.

"Huh? Has someone moved in here?" Gu Mengyao glanced at the BMW X5 M in some surprise.

Beside the villa Wei Zhao had bought stood an empty one—the very villa with the luxurious renovations they had seen on the day they went house-hunting, something they had only learned after Wei Zhao, Gu Mengyao, and Xiaoshu moved in. On the day they bought their house, though, that villa had still been unsold; who would have thought it would sell so quickly.

The people in this BMW were probably the owners of that villa.

In any case, now that they were outside, they could hardly ignore a new neighbor—after all, they would be living side by side from now on—so Gu Mengyao decided they should still go over and say hello. It was a matter of courtesy; whether they would actually get along was a question for later.

After the BMW X5 M's engine cut out, a beautiful girl and a somewhat shy boy climbed out, and Wei Zhao's brows knitted slightly! These two were none other than the sister and brother who had wanted to rent a place at the real estate agency that day!

But they had actually rented a villa? Wei Zhao dismissed the thought at once—how could a villa with renovations like that be rented out casually? Renovations wore down with use, after all; rent out a house like that for a few years and the money sunk into the renovations would be drastically devalued—the rent would not even cover the loss.

So the only possibility for a villa like this was sale. These two siblings had actually bought a villa? The contrast from before to now was a little too stark, wasn't it? Especially that beautiful girl—the strange glint that had flickered in her eyes back at the agency was something Wei Zhao remembered vividly.

At the time Wei Zhao had not known these siblings, so he had not paid much attention to that glint in the girl's eyes. But now they had turned up here, become his neighbors, and Wei Zhao's brows knitted once more. Coincidence, or something else?

What Wei Zhao could be certain of, however, was that he had absolutely never seen this brother and sister before!

If it was a coincidence—well, when he had gone to the agency, the siblings had already been there, and his choice of that particular agency had been a spur-of-the-moment decision. There were several agencies in the area, not just that one, so to claim the siblings had been waiting for him there was far too much of a stretch.

But if it was not a coincidence, then what did it mean that they had bought the villa next to his own? That glance from the beautiful girl in particular made Wei Zhao feel something was off.

Of course, perhaps that glance had simply been because he had walked into the agency with two lovely women in tow, and perhaps they had bought a villa because they saw that he had bought one, and so followed suit.

They were a wealthy brother and sister who had chosen to rent at first to keep a low profile, but upon seeing a classmate buy a villa, they had stopped caring and bought one too. That was the most reasonable explanation.

The beautiful girl seemed to have noticed someone watching them as well. She looked over toward Wei Zhao, and when she saw him, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu, a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes—but a moment later she nodded to them and walked over.

When she had bought the villa, the girl had only wanted one reasonably close by, never imagining that the two villas would turn out to be neighbors! Only today, when she moved in, had she discovered that they were living right next door. "What a coincidence—I never expected we'd be neighbors," she said to Wei Zhao and the others, quite at ease.

"Coincidence, is it..." Wei Zhao said flatly. "That day, weren't you two looking to rent? How is it you've bought a villa instead?"

"We did plan to rent at first, but when I saw that you'd bought a villa, I was a little tempted, so I bought one too," the girl said. "I just never thought we'd end up as neighbors."

Wei Zhao saw that the girl's earlier surprise had not seemed feigned at all, and he grew puzzled. Could it really be a coincidence?

The girl's surprise was genuine enough—what surprised her was that the two villas were neighbors.

"So that's how it is. Are you students at Donghai Engineering University too?" Wei Zhao asked.

"Yes, my brother and I both are. But right after we bought the villa, something came up at home and we didn't go to register, so we took leave and plan to register tomorrow," the girl said.

"Oh." Wei Zhao nodded and asked no more.

"Hello, my name is Gu Mengyao, and this is Shen Yushu—we're in the Economics Department at Donghai Engineering University," Gu Mengyao said. Hearing that the siblings were also students there, she warmed to them at once; they were all from the same school, so it would be easy to get along, and they could visit each other when they had time.

"Ah, you're in Economics? What a coincidence—my brother is too!" the girl said. "My name is Han Jingyi, and this is my brother, Han Xiaochao."

"I never expected we'd be in the same department. Han Jingyi, aren't you in Economics?" Gu Mengyao asked.

"No, I'm in the Biology Department," Han Jingyi said. "Though it's a small major—pharmaceuticals. I'm afraid you've never heard of it."

Wei Zhao's brows knitted slightly. Pharmaceuticals? That was a bit too much of a coincidence, wasn't it? But once he had confirmed that the two were not cultivators, he did not press any further. Some things were useless to suspect; all he could do was wait and see.

"Pharmaceuticals? Really?" Gu Mengyao found it odd that a girl would choose to study pharmaceuticals. "Wei Zhao is in pharmaceuticals too—now that really is a coincidence."

"Oh? You are too?" Han Jingyi looked at Wei Zhao in some surprise. "You like studying medicinal herbs as well?"

"Mm," Wei Zhao nodded.

"Wonderful! We must compare notes often from now on—I love studying medicinal herbs too!" Han Jingyi said cheerfully, as though she had found a kindred spirit.

But before Wei Zhao could say anything, a Bentley came driving toward them. It was Uncle Qing's car.

"My friend is here. Let's keep in touch from now on," Wei Zhao said with a nod to Han Jingyi. After hearing her name and her brother's, he was all the more certain he did not know these two—not even in his past missions had he ever heard those names.

"All right. We need to go tidy up the villa anyway," Han Jingyi said, and opened the trunk of the car, from which she took out quilts and other household goods—evidently they had been out shopping.
