Chapter 2755 — Xinyan's Parents Arrive

The Blossom Guardian

With the buffer of the school term ahead, she believed Wei Zhao would only grow stronger. He already dared to stand up to Kang Zhaoming now, and the Xuan Dan Sect had made no aggressive moves in response, so Wang Xinyan was full of confidence in Wei Zhao's future—and in her own.

"Xiao Yi, this pill formula..." Elder Bai turned to look at Wei Zhao.

Only Wei Zhao, Wang Xinyan, and Elder Bai remained in the office. Wei Zhao did not hold anything back, since they were all on the same side. "I modified that pill formula to tier four. Actually, the original formula was tier four as well. I blended it with the recipe for the Life-Extending Detox Pill and worked it into a tier-three formula, but I didn't expect it to have that sort of bug, so I refined it further—yet I still couldn't get around the refining method for tier-four pills."

"You... can modify pill formulas?" Elder Bai's eyes went wide, and he stared at Wei Zhao as though he were looking at a monster. If Wei Zhao could rework a medicinal recipe, that he could believe—but a pill formula is far more complex than a medicinal recipe, involving layer upon layer of intricate shifts in pharmacology and medicinal properties. Even Elder Bai himself could not alter a pill formula at will.

"That's right. Isn't it about the same as modifying a medicinal recipe? There's nothing difficult about it!" Wei Zhao nodded. "I think Jingjing can do it too."

"..." Elder Bai drew in a sharp breath and shook his head with a bitter smile. "All right, I'll be honest. I can't!"

"Uh..." Wei Zhao was taken aback, but then said, "No matter. It's quite simple. When the time comes, we'll look into it together..."

While Wei Zhao and Elder Bai were talking, Wang Xinyan had slipped back into a deep sleep. The matters Wei Zhao had been discussing with Kang Zhaoming and Kang Zhaolong concerned her, so she had forced herself to stay awake; but once things were settled, she drifted off with peace of mind.

So Wei Zhao hurried to brew medicine for Wang Xinyan in Elder Bai's office, using the herbs Kang Zhaoming had brought.

That evening, when Wang Xinyan woke, Wei Zhao gave her the medicine and planned to check its effects the next day.

To Wei Zhao's disappointment, however, Elder Bai's potion seemed to have some effect, but only slightly better than his own. Wang Xinyan still slept and slept; it did nothing to improve the weakness of her body.

This left Wei Zhao at a loss. With no other choice, he could only dial Old Man Wei's number.

He had intended to handle it himself. After all, this sort of bodily weakness was something Old Man Wei could treat, and so could he—he had already received the true transmission of Old Man Wei's medical skill. If Old Man Wei mixed a prescription, he would only produce the same potion as Wei Zhao unless he used higher-grade herbs, the way Elder Bai had. But such herbs were generally precious and hard to come by, and even if a potion were brewed, it would be useless.

Now there was truly no other way. Wei Zhao could only treat a dead horse as though it were alive, and see whether Old Man Wei had some ingenious alternative.

But when the call went through, a recorded voice came back: "The number you have dialed is out of the service area or has been switched off. Please try again later."

Wei Zhao was briefly stunned. In theory, Old Man Wei's phone was never off—he kept it on twenty-four hours a day, and when the battery died he simply turned it on while charging! So Wei Zhao was puzzled and worried. What had happened to Old Man Wei?

With no other option, Wei Zhao dialed the number for Widow Wang's grocery store at the head of the village.

"Auntie Wang, this is Xiao Yi!" Wei Zhao said.

"Xiao Yi? Ha, it's you! It's been a long time since you called. What is it—is something the matter?" Auntie Wang asked with a chuckle.

"Auntie Wang, I can't reach my grandpa. Could you send Ergoudan to my house to check whether he's there? If he is, have him call me back?" Wei Zhao said.

"Oh, you're looking for your grandpa. Doctor Lin went out on a house call first thing this morning. He said he'd be walking mountain paths, so he took Ergoudan along to clear the way and avoid wild animals. He isn't back yet—it's a fair distance this time, they said they were going to a neighboring village behind the mountain. There's no cell signal over there, so I'd guess he won't be back until tomorrow?" Widow Wang said.

"I see..." Wei Zhao nodded, and his heart settled. The old man had told the villagers he was going to a neighboring village for a house call, but Wei Zhao knew he was really off to the Western Star Valley to drink the spring water—the same spirit spring water Ergoudan drank every time.

Old Man Wei went to drink some of the spirit spring water at regular intervals, but only Wei Zhao and Ergoudan knew about it. This time he had taken Ergoudan along, so they were certainly off drinking spirit spring water.

Since he could not consult Old Man Wei, Wei Zhao could only set the matter aside for now. He decided that when Wang Xinyan woke, he would talk with her about whether to tell her parents of the current situation. For one thing, it would give her parents some mental preparation; for another, he wanted to ask what miraculous medicine Wang Xinyan had taken back then, whether the prescription still existed, and whether that wandering expert could be found again.

After Wang Xinyan woke, Wei Zhao discussed his thoughts with her. She had no choice but to be honest with her parents as well. She feared it would worry them, but if they were not told and things went on this way—if something happened—they would be even less prepared.

So one evening after school, Wang Xinyan summoned her parents to the villa in the Xueshang residential compound. Though the purpose was to discuss her health, having her parents come to Wei Zhao's home left her somewhat embarrassed, as though this were a matchmaking meeting with the parents.

Wang Xuben and Xiao Qinlin were rather puzzled as to why Wang Xinyan had suddenly called them to Wei Zhao's villa, and naturally they had formed certain misconceptions.

The two arrived at the villa around seven in the evening. Wei Zhao, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu, as the masters of the house, naturally accompanied Wang Xinyan out to greet them. Wei Zhao smiled and greeted Wang Xuben and Xiao Qinlin. "Uncle Wang, Auntie Xiao, welcome. Please come in!"

"Very well..." Wang Xuben and Xiao Qinlin nodded politely. After all, though they had discussed the matter and reached a consensus to respect their daughter's wishes, she was still Kang Zhaolong's fiancee, and they could not treat Wei Zhao as a son-in-law.

The two entered the villa and sat down in the living room. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu went to pour tea, then sat to one side. They were not strangers to Wang Xuben and Xiao Qinlin; they had met when Wang Xinyan was kidnapped.

Wang Xinyan glanced at Wei Zhao, signaling him not to say anything out of turn, and then said to her parents, "Dad, Mom, my body seems to have run into some problems..." (To be continued.
