Chapter 882 — The Cowherd Drunk by the Riverbank

The Herdsman of the Wasteland · Page 4 of 4

In the distance, from a village by the river came a voice: "Listen, there's a baby crying outside!"

"Impossible, you misheard... Hey, there really is a baby crying!"

In the mist, the sword-washing woman watched a hunchbacked old woman lift the infant from the basket. Only then did she slowly withdraw.

"I used the Immeasurable Kalpa Scripture to enter the Dao through dreams, helping him trace back to his origin and preserve his soul. He is no longer in danger of death."

Within the Shenzi Continent, the Old Buddha, who had all this while been entering dreams, landed no one knew when, and said to the Heavenly Lord, Tubo, and the others: "My Immeasurable Kalpa Scripture was always meant to be passed to him; alas, he never had the fate. Now, in his sleep, I have helped him enter the Dao in dreams and remember all that came before. It is only a matter of time before he comprehends my Immeasurable Kalpa Scripture."

The Heavenly Lord said, "Thank goodness the Old Buddha woke in time. Otherwise, even if he survived, I fear his cultivation would have been gravely damaged."

At this moment, Shen Mu slowly came to, a familiar children's song reaching his ear.

"Reeds grow tall, reeds grow long, reed flowers like snow, snow so vast...

Reeds know best the fury of wind, reeds know best the madness of rain..."

He struggled up from the bed and followed the song outside. The song made him feel as though he had returned to the years of tending cattle. By the reed marshes, the shepherd's flute rang clear and sweet, and flake upon flake of snow-white reed flowers drifted, drifted in the wind. He walked outside. The moonlight was bright. A familiar girl sat in the lunar palace humming the children's song, gazing at the rivers and mountains of Jingping below.

She turned her head and gave him a tranquil, bashful smile.
