Chapter 1789 — Set Off at Once
"There is one way, though I cannot say whether it can be done..." Mo Kongwen said after a moment's hesitation.
"What way? If there is hope, we must at least try!" Old Man Wei had always been one to take things in stride; even when Wei Zhao had lost all his power several times and had to flee back to West Star Mountain Village, the old man had still worn that light, unruffled air. But this time, he was truly anxious.
"There is a way, but I fear it cannot be done..." Mo Kongwen said. "That is why I have been thinking whether there might be some alternative. Yet after turning it over and over, I suspect this may be the only way."
"What way? Out with it already! You are worrying me to death!" Old Man Wei said, beside himself with anxiety.
"Go to the Snow Valley of the ancient sects and beg a single Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit. It can, after one whose cultivation follows the **supreme yang** path has suffered a deviation and lost control, **hold back the true qi within the body and force out the fire poison** born of that loss of control!" Mo Kongwen said slowly.
"Snow Valley? Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit?" Old Man Wei murmured the two names, and a peculiar look flickered across his face. The expressions on Tang Yun, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu's faces were rather a sight as well.
"What is it with all of you? Surely you have not already gone to Snow Valley to ask for an Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit and come away empty-handed?" Mo Kongwen was somewhat taken aback.
"I have never heard of the Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit, but I have heard of the Fire Spirit Sacred Fruit!" Old Man Wei said with a bitter smile. "Little Yi went looking for the Fire Spirit Sacred Fruit before!"
"The heavenly treasure produced by the Ice Palace?" Mo Kongwen was slightly startled. "Little Yi has actually had dealings with people of the ancient stratum?"
"He has..." Old Man Wei gave him the short version, briefly explaining Feng Xiaoxiao's situation and Wei Zhao's experiences in the Ice Palace.
"I see. But the Fire Spirit Sacred Fruit is the heavenly treasure used by those whose cultivation follows the **supreme yin** path, when they suffer a deviation and lose control, **to suppress the cold qi within the body and force out the cold poison**. Compared with the Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit, it is far more important to a sect like the Ice Palace!" Mo Kongwen said. "The Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit, however, is of little use to Snow Valley, for Snow Valley **also cultivates the supreme yin attribute**. Their Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit can only be used to trade with other sects for heavenly treasures... So if you go to ask for one, you should be able to obtain it with money and other heavenly treasures."
"So that is how it is. Then—do you know anyone in Snow Valley?" Old Man Wei asked.
"As for making contact with Snow Valley, there is nothing I can do. You know that the reason I stay here is not only for Little Yi's sake; there is a more important matter I must attend to. Until I reach that level, I cannot have dealings with people of the ancient stratum..." Mo Kongwen's words were ambiguous, and Gu Mengyao and the others were left utterly baffled. Yet Old Man Wei seemed to understand, and gave a slight nod. "Then..."
Mo Kongwen's gaze swept over Wei Zhao, Shen Yushu, and Gu Mengyao, and finally came to rest on Tang Yun. "You ladies must be Little Yi's close companions? This trip to Snow Valley to ask for the Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit—I leave it to you. Do you have the confidence to obtain it for him?"
"Us?" Gu Mengyao and the others were all taken aback; they had not expected Mo Kongwen to entrust this task to the three of them.
"Mr. Lin cannot leave West Star Mountain Village for special reasons, so only you ladies can do this," Mo Kongwen said mildly.
"We will do our utmost!" Tang Yun said firmly, scarcely knowing where the courage came from.
Yet at this moment Old Man Wei's brow was tightly knit. Had it not been that he could not casually leave West Star Mountain Village, he would have gone to Snow Valley himself this time. But his situation differed from Er Goudan's: Er Goudan could leave, and so long as he did not exert his full strength there was no great harm—but Old Man Wei could not.
Still, letting Tang Yun, Gu Mengyao, and Little Shu—three young women—go to Snow Valley alone truly left Old Man Wei uneasy. They were no **cultivators**, and could they really beg an Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit from an ancient sect?
"Old friend, these three girls... going to an ancient sect..." Old Man Wei turned to Mo Kongwen, hesitating to speak further.
"It will be difficult, but not necessarily unsuccessful..." As he spoke, Mo Kongwen swept a meaningful glance over Tang Yun, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu, and said with deep significance.
"Oh?" Old Man Wei was slightly startled. He knew Mo Kongwen to be a master of divination, deeply versed in the arts of the wondrous gates and hidden stems. If he said it was not necessarily unsuccessful, then perhaps there really was a way? But Old Man Wei could not fathom what way Gu Mengyao and the other two might have.
"To Snow Valley, the Ice Spirit Sacred Fruit is no supreme treasure; spend a little more money, and they will still sell it," Mo Kongwen said.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let us set out right now!" Gu Mengyao breathed a sigh of relief on hearing that money could buy it. But after she spoke, she glanced at Tang Yun—after all, Wei Zhao was Tang Yun's boyfriend, and she had shown herself too eager; would Tang Yun read too much into it?
"Yes, let us set out now!" Tang Yun thought nothing of it. "But where is Snow Valley?"
Tang Yun had suddenly hit upon this very important question: none of them knew where Snow Valley was, so how were they to get there?
"I will draw you a route map; simply follow it on the road," Mo Kongwen said.
"Good. Then Yaoyao will drive, and I will help read the map from the passenger seat, and have Little Shu and Wei Zhao in the back to help cool him down." Now that Tang Yun had heard there was a solution, she did not want to wait a moment.
Mo Kongwen found paper, brush, and a map, and drew a route for Tang Yun and the others. "When you arrive, simply say you have come to purchase heavenly treasures. Snow Valley should sell it."
"All right, we set out at once!" Tang Yun took the map, put it away carefully, and began to pack their luggage for the journey.
What had been a pleasant trip to the mountain village had unexpectedly run into trouble. Old Man Wei and Mo Kongwen helped lift Wei Zhao into the car, and they hurriedly left West Star Mountain Village.
The directions on Mo Kongwen's map were all along the highways; there was hardly a desolate or wild stretch, out of consideration for the girls' safety. After all, none of the three was a **cultivator**, and Wei Zhao was in a state of deviation and lost control. If they ran into trouble along the way, it would be hard to deal with.
This, however, would undoubtedly make the route somewhat roundabout and winding, but there was no help for it.
Old Man Wei watched the car's shadow vanish, a trace of worry flickering in his eyes.
