Chapter 1843 — The Heavenly Thunder Pig's Treasure Hunt, Part Two

The Blossom Guardian

But still—if the Heavenly Thunder Pig really did find some rare treasure, would that not fetch a great deal of money all at once? Better than nothing, at any rate; it never hurt to try one's luck.

Granny Sun had the best route for each day mapped out in her mind, so they followed nearly the same path every day. But today they had not gone far when the Heavenly Thunder Pig raised a claw and pointed in a certain direction, squealing "Oink, oink!"

"Oh?" Gu Mengyao hesitated a moment, but in the end decided to follow the pig's lead. "Granny Sun, let's go take a look in that direction!"

"All right..." Granny Sun was rather puzzled that Gu Mengyao would put her faith in a little pig, but the creature was plainly nothing like any ordinary pig, so she decided to trust it, just this once...

Following the Heavenly Thunder Pig, the three of them and General Mighty chased it all the way to a trash bin in a residential compound. The pig jabbed a claw at the inside of the bin and squealed "Oink, oink!" again...

"What are you squealing for? If there's something good in there, go pick it out!" Shen Yushu scolded the Heavenly Thunder Pig.

"Oink, oink..." The Heavenly Thunder Pig looked at the filthy bin and felt rather aggrieved. It was an ancient spirit beast, after all—when had it ever been treated like this? But thinking of saving Wei Zhao, it had no choice but to trudge reluctantly toward the trash bin.

"Let this old woman do it for you!" Granny Sun, unlike the pig, was not squeamish. Rummaging through garbage was an everyday matter to her; she had no mental barrier about it at all.

With that, Granny Sun began to rummage through the bin, and soon fished out several drink bottles and a few cardboard boxes. But this was an ordinary haul at best—one could find the like in any compound's trash—and to run so far for it had clearly not been worth the trouble.

Still, the bin was nearly scraped clean; Granny Sun had already pulled out everything obvious, and there was probably nothing else of value left in it.

"Heh, we'd best just go about it step by step as usual from now on..." Granny Sun loaded the cardboard and bottles onto the handcart and was just about to leave when the Heavenly Thunder Pig, refusing to let the matter drop, kept pointing at the bin and squealing "Oink, oink!"

Shen Yushu had been rather annoyed at the Heavenly Thunder Pig to begin with, seeing how little had come out of the bin, and was just about to scold it—but hearing it still squealing, she paused in surprise and asked, "Heavenly Thunder Pig, do you mean there's still something good in there?"

"Oink, oink!" The Heavenly Thunder Pig nodded firmly.

Granny Sun found it quite a marvel to see a little pig so attuned to human nature, one that could even understand human speech. But if it said there was more, then she would trust it once more. She began searching the bin again, more carefully this time, no longer fixing her eyes only on bottles and cardboard...

At last, down at the very bottom of the bin, Granny Sun found an iPhone!

The screen was visibly cracked, but when Granny Sun tested it, the phone actually still powered on. In other words, its owner had probably tossed it aside the moment the screen broke and never bothered to have it repaired!

Granny Sun scavenged every day, so her experience was naturally rich; she often picked up broken phones like this. And this iPhone had nothing wrong but its screen—if the other functions were sound, selling it to a shop that bought secondhand phones would fetch at least a thousand yuan!

This find sent Granny Sun into transports of delight. She had never imagined the little pig possessed such a skill—the proceeds from this one broken phone were equal to two days of her usual earnings!

"Can a broken phone like this really be sold?" Gu Mengyao asked, watching the excited Granny Sun with a rather odd expression.

"Of course it can. This iPhone is the latest model—only the screen is shattered; the other functions should be fine. At a secondhand shop it would fetch at least a thousand yuan!" Granny Sun said.

Gu Mengyao's face flushed at once. This was the first she had ever heard that a battered phone like this could still be sold for money. In the past, whenever her phone had given trouble, she had simply thrown it away—it would never have occurred to her to sell it!

"Not bad at all, Heavenly Thunder Pig!" Shen Yushu said, looking at it with admiration. "Keep it up. If we can earn lots of money every day, Brother Arrow will wake up sooner, and when he does, I'll have him upgrade you!"

"Oink, oink!" At Shen Yushu's words, the Heavenly Thunder Pig nodded happily.

After leaving that place, the three of them did not return to their old spot; instead they began scavenging along the streets near the compound. This time they had not gone far before the Heavenly Thunder Pig once again pointed in a direction and squealed "Oink, oink!"

This time Granny Sun had learned her lesson. Without waiting for a word from Gu Mengyao or Shen Yushu, she pushed the cart and ran after the Heavenly Thunder Pig—she was afraid that if she were a step late, someone else would get to the good stuff first!

The Heavenly Thunder Pig led the way in front, winding this way and that until they reached another residential district, where a family was in the middle of moving house. Beside the moving company's truck lay an old-fashioned refrigerator and some old furniture, cast out on the ground.

The Heavenly Thunder Pig pointed at the old refrigerator and furniture and began to squeal.

"Excuse me—are you not keeping these things?" Granny Sun hesitated a moment, then walked over to the moving truck and asked a man who was clearly the employer.

"No, we're not. We've bought a new place; these things are old and don't work too well anymore. If you want them, they're yours." The employer waved his hand carelessly as he spoke to Granny Sun.

The refrigerator was not very old either, and looked as though it still worked. Among the discarded furniture were a brass bed headboard, along with some angle iron and wooden boards.

Brass beds like that had long gone out of fashion. The employer had presumably made his fortune and bought a new house, and this old-fashioned piece, which would only clash with modern decor, was certainly not going with him.

"Then thank you kindly!" Granny Sun said, and began loading the refrigerator and brass headboard onto her handcart.

From Granny Sun's experience, the refrigerator could sell for three to five hundred yuan at least, and the brass headboard alone, sold as scrap copper, would fetch several hundred more. Together the two came to nearly a thousand yuan!

The movers glanced at Granny Sun with a touch of envy. Plainly they too had hoped to ask the employer for these old things at the end, but never expected someone else to speak up first!

In the blink of an eye, two thousand yuan had dropped into their hands, and Granny Sun came to admire the Heavenly Thunder Pig in earnest! With this little creature along, this was no scavenging—it was simply picking up money!

In one morning's work, Granny Sun and the other two made three trips to the secondhand goods market and the used-phone market, and more than three thousand yuan landed straight in their hands!
