Chapter 2448 — Skis
"So you're experts from the hidden Right family. I've given offense." The security captain nodded. "Since we've talked it out, let's consider the matter closed. Our paths don't need to cross..."
With that, he turned to the other guards. "Pick up Young Master Su. We're leaving!"
"Yes, sir!" The guards had come quickly and left just as quickly; in the blink of an eye they were already far away.
Most of the class was baffled—why had these people come in with such ferocity, only for Right Panhu to say a few words and send them packing?
Of course, that was also because they had been standing some distance away and hadn't clearly heard what Right Panhu and the security captain had said. Wei Zhao, however, frowned in thought—so it seemed he truly had underestimated the Fire Wolf Gang and the Red Conch. Their business holdings really were extensive.
Bai Lingtou was at that moment dining with the other teachers in a private room, and so had noticed nothing of the commotion outside. When Bai Weituo saw the matter resolved, naturally he felt no need to report it.
After lunch, Bai Lingtou led everyone to a shopping mall in the ski resort and announced: "You can rent skis here. I'll cover the rental cost, but anyone who wants to buy their own skis will have to pay for them personally."
Although everyone's money had been robbed along the way, the bank cards in their wallets were still there, and the shops here all accepted card payments. So a number of students, unwilling to use secondhand rental gear, preferred to buy a new pair of skis.
Kang Zhaolong was one of them. Having offended Wang Xinyan earlier, he was thinking about how to make it up to her, so he quickly walked over to where Wei Zhao, Wang Xinyan, and Han Jingyi stood and said, "Xinyan, what kind of skis would you like? Shall I buy you a pair?"
This was also a pickup technique Kang Zhaolong had learned from that book called *Very Pure and Ambiguous: The Prequel*. He actually knew nothing about skis, but before Wang Xinyan could speak, he put on the air of a seasoned expert and said to the shop owner, "Boss, do you have any skis specially designed for girls? I want the Mermaid brand!"
"Skis for girls, we do have, but the Entertainment brand..." The owner hesitated. "That brand doesn't sell particularly well. Maybe you'd like to choose another brand?"
"No need!" Kang Zhaolong said with great certainty. "I want Mermaid brand skis. That's the brand, no mistake about it. Don't worry about anything else—just bring them to me. What, do you think there's no profit in selling this brand, that you won't earn enough? I can pay extra!"
Wei Zhao was somewhat speechless at Kang Zhaolong's nouveau riche behavior—though the Kang family really was just that, nouveau riche. Kang the Divine Doctor had built his fortune on a single prescription, yet he barely understood medicine himself, and still called himself Kang the Divine Doctor...
"Buy your own. We'll go with another brand," Wei Zhao said flatly, glancing at the skis the owner had brought out.
"Wei Zhao, when it comes to fighting, you're the expert. But when it comes to skis, I'm the professional!" Kang Zhaolong had made a point of studying up in books these past few days. Mermaid brand skis were of very good quality—that was why he had specifically asked for them by name.
"Fine. Don't come crying to me afterward." Wei Zhao answered mildly, then pointed at another brand of skis inside the display case. "I'll take these. Bring me three pairs—two women's, one men's."
"Certainly." The owner nodded, fetching a pair of Entertainment brand skis for Kang Zhaolong and three pairs of the store's current best-selling skis for Wei Zhao.
Kang Zhaolong's expression soured. It seemed Wang Xinyan didn't believe a word he said and had chosen to trust Wei Zhao instead! Still, Kang Zhaolong was in no hurry to fall out with Wei Zhao. Losing his composure in front of Wang Xinyan would only make her look down on him further, so he decided it was better to proceed step by step. He still had his most important plan to carry out next—there was no need to quibble over a temporary gain or loss.
After buying skis and some skiing gear, Wei Zhao, Wang Xinyan, and Han Jingyi left the shop. Some of the other students also bought skiing supplies. Skis could be rented, but for close-fitting items like ski boots and ski goggles, it was better to buy your own.
Wang Xinyan held an armful of things Wei Zhao had bought her, her heart in a tangle. If she hadn't left the house without her bank card, and if all her cash hadn't been handed over to the robbers, she wouldn't have let Wei Zhao spend money on her—but as for letting Kang Zhaolong spend money on her, that she was even more unwilling to do.
Though she had never stated anything explicitly to Wei Zhao, after all the intimate things that had passed between them, deep down Wang Xinyan had long since regarded herself as Wei Zhao's. And she believed that with the four years of university as a buffer, Wei Zhao would surely be able to make the Xuandan Sect compromise.
So Wang Xinyan didn't want to owe Kang Zhaolong anything. If she accepted his gifts now, the debt of obligation would be troublesome to repay later. After struggling inwardly, she had still chosen to accept Wei Zhao's things.
Wei Zhao, for his part, never imagined Wang Xinyan had so much on her mind. Having changed into his skiing gear, he asked, "Jingjing, Xinyan, do you two know how to ski?"
Not far off, Wei Zhao saw Bai Weituo, already changed into his skiing gear, take several tumbles, and he asked Han Jingyi and Wang Xinyan with a hint of amusement.
"No, but it doesn't look too hard. Jingjing can give it a try," Han Jingyi said. She had been watching the skilled skiers for a while and had roughly grasped some of the patterns.
Wang Xinyan, however, hesitated. Over there, Zhao Shengji and Chai Xiaoling were hand in hand, learning to ski. Who would have thought that fat Zhao Shengji was actually a decent skier, while Chai Xiaoling was clearly learning under his guidance...
The scene made Wang Xinyan wonder: if she didn't know how, would Wei Zhao teach her the same way?
But just then, Kang Zhaolong came out carrying his skis. He smiled at Wang Xinyan and said, "Xinyan, you don't know how to ski, do you? Want me to teach you? Auntie knows about this winter trip too, and she asked me to look after you!"
Kang Zhaolong might not know the first thing about skis, but that didn't mean he couldn't ski. On the contrary, when he had come with Right Panhu to scout the terrain a few days earlier, he had rented a set of skiing gear and spent an entire afternoon learning carefully from the resort's ski instructor. He couldn't claim to be excellent, but he was a decent skier—at least good enough to teach Wang Xinyan. RQ
