Chapter 147 — The Long-Awaited...

Years of Heartflutter Page 179 of 501

So from the moment the girl drew near the club, Yang Juehuan's gaze never left her.

The girl was beautiful—how to put it? There was an indescribable quality about her, languid yet very lovely. That feeling gave Yang Moyi an illusion of familiarity, as though he had seen it somewhere before.

It seemed there was someone close to him just like this, but Yang Jiyan could not think of who resembled her more.

When Yang Ce pulled his gaze in tight like the focus of a telescope, he caught a faint trace of something unusual. The girl's features looked natural and sweet, but they had in fact been carefully, deliberately made up.

It was true that the trendy kids these days liked to paint themselves beyond recognition, but that was because their natural foundations were poor. This girl, whether by the shape of her face or the placement of her features, was perfect—there was no need for her to put on so much makeup.

That made Yang Ce unconsciously look at her with his penetration vision, and when he saw the girl's true appearance, he could not help starting in his heart—he nearly lost his grip on the newspaper.

For the shock it gave him was simply too great. Yang Ce could never have imagined that this girl would turn out to be that person—someone he knew.

That was right: this person was his neighbor, the one who looked like a little delinquent girl—Wang Yanqiu. The shock this gave Yang Ce was no small thing. What was Wang Yanqiu doing here?

Yang Juehuan's brows knitted together. Matters were growing more and more complicated. Though Yang Ce did not quite believe Wang Yanqiu was the killer, if she was not, then why had she dressed herself up so carefully and come here?

Yang Yongjin believed there was such a thing as coincidence in this world, but coincidence still had to exist. Yang Ce adjusted his mood and decided to wait and see how things would develop.

Wang Yanqiu walked lightly up to the front of the club, looked inside with a touch of curiosity, but did not take the initiative to speak with the guard.

When the guard, Brother Wang, saw a cute young girl come up, he found it a little strange but still spoke up to ask: "Little sister, what are you doing here?"

"What is this place? Can I go in?" As she spoke, Wang Yanqiu took out her phone and gave it a little shake. "I'm a tourist here. I saw how pretty it is and wanted to take a few pictures."

"Little sister, this is a private club. People without an invitation can't just go in." Brother Wang shook his head apologetically. "If you want to take pictures, just stand outside here and take them."

"Oh, I see." A look of disappointment came over Wang Yanqiu's face. "Then I'll just take a few around the outside."

With that, Wang Yanqiu turned and began walking around the perimeter of the club. Brother Wang did not mind and let her go on her own—because Wang Yanqiu's appearance was simply too harmless; Brother Wang could not muster the slightest vigilance toward her.

From those few exchanges between Wang Yanqiu and the guard alone, Yang Shuoxuan could not determine whether Wang Yanqiu was the killer or one of the killer's people. He could only keep observing her.

But Wang Yanqiu's next behavior plunged Yang Ce into deep suspicion. The reason was simple: as Wang Yanqiu walked around the club, she was not holding up her phone to take pictures—instead her gaze was directed at the fence and the surveillance cameras mounted on it.

When she saw how tightly guarded the place was, she even seemed to shake her head slightly and sigh. That only deepened Yang Juehuan's suspicion: Wang Yanqiu had not come here to take pictures. She had other designs.

Her method was exactly the same as his own—first find an excuse to chat with the guard, then observe the club's security arrangements and terrain. There was no way Yang Ce could keep from suspecting her.

Only, for Wang Yanqiu to be the killer who had taken the job—that was a bit too absurd, wasn't it? Yang Ce simply could not connect her with an assassin. But as the saying went, you cannot judge people by their looks, nor measure the sea with a bucket. Did he himself look like an assassin?

Even if Wang Yanqiu was not the killer, she should still have some connection to that killer. Yang Ce immediately shifted his gaze to the bag Wang Yanqiu was carrying, and in the next moment he had no doubts left at all.

A compact silenced pistol, a small assassination dagger, binoculars, a flashlight—all of this was more familiar to Yang Ce than anything. This was an assassin's kit! Only one phrase could describe Yang Ce's state of mind now: this world was truly insane. Hmm—what was this? In Wang Yanqiu's backpack there was also a pack of feminine hygiene pads. Yang Ce sweated profusely. After Wang Yanqiu finished scouting the terrain, she probably also concluded that making a move here was basically impossible. She turned and left the club, glanced around, and spotted the bench where Yang Ce was sitting.

It was the nearest bench to the club. Though someone was already sitting on it, Wang Yanqiu hesitated a moment, then still walked over.

838. Conversation Yang Juehuan's heart tightened slightly—had she noticed something? But he relaxed the next moment. For one thing, she could not possibly recognize him now; and even if she had some suspicion, she would be even less likely to come over and tip him off.

The only possibility was that Wang Yanqiu had the same idea as himself: find the nearest bench, sit down first, then watch the club's activity and wait for the seminar to end before making her move at a suitable moment.

Sure enough, Wang Yanqiu only gave Yang Puqi a faint glance, and no look of doubt appeared on her face. Yang Ce was still reading his newspaper, except that his attention was not on the paper at all.

Wang Yanqiu took out a napkin, wiped the chair, and then sat down beside Yang Juehuan. She put the earphones of her MP3 player into her ears, looking for all the world like a tourist who had tired of walking and was taking a rest along the way.

Of course, Wang Yanqiu could not possibly have Yang Puqi's farsighted ability, and in broad daylight she certainly could not pull out binoculars—but neither could she stare endlessly in the direction of the club.

She had her own method, though: she pulled down the sunglasses that had been pushed up in her hair, so that no one could see which way her eyes were turned, and then she could observe whatever she wished without the slightest scruple.

Of course, none of this escaped Yang Juehuan, because Yang Ce was the same kind of person, doing the very same thing. The difference was that Yang Ce's attention had now shifted from the club to Wang Yanqiu herself.

Wang Yanqiu's appearance made the whole affair seem even more bewildering to Yang Ce. Whose side did Wang Yanqiu represent? What sort of person was she, really? She had lived with Zhao Ying for so long—had Zhao Ying never noticed anything?

Yang Ce would have preferred to believe that he did not know the person before him, but the facts were precisely the opposite. Could it be that Wang Yanqiu had belonged to some assassin organization all along? Now that he thought about it, that possibility did exist.

Though he had not had many dealings with Wang Yanqiu, it was certain that she carried martial skill, and her movements were nimble and athletic—as could be seen from the time she had struck at him and from that rock-climbing episode.

Moreover, from Zhao Ying he had never heard a single word about Wang Yanqiu's family. Wang Yanqiu was all alone, yet she could afford a villa—which could not but make Yang Ce wonder whether her money came from carrying out assassination contracts.
