Chapter 1738 — Distinguished Guests at the Door

Kang Guifeng looked at the two strangers before his family home with some confusion, wondering what kind of people they might be. But judging by their bearing, they were clearly extraordinary, so Kang Guifeng did not dare to be lax. He quickly asked, "May I ask... is there something the two of you wish to see our Kang family about?"

"Are you a member of the Kang family?" One of the two, who was plainly a servant by his appearance, asked Kang Guifeng.

"Yes, I am Kang Guifeng, eldest son of the Kang family. May I ask who the two of you are..." Kang Guifeng asked with some hesitation.

"This is the young master of the Hidden Right Family, You Zhentian. Why haven't you opened the main gate and had your family head come out to receive him?" The servant looked down at Kang Guifeng from a lofty height and said with arrogant pride.

"Ah? The Hidden Right Family?" Hearing this name, Kang Guifeng was momentarily dumbstruck. In the sphere he could reach, the secular aristocratic families were already existences beyond his reach, yet a hidden aristocratic family was as unreachable as the heavens themselves!

Although he knew of the hidden aristocratic families by reputation, he had only ever heard of them and never had any contact with them. Now, with a hidden family suddenly coming to visit, Kang Guifeng was at a complete loss! But he knew that a hidden aristocratic family stood high above the Kang family like the heavens themselves.

"You San, there's no need to be so aggressive. Though we are a hidden aristocratic family, Old Master Kang's seniority is what it is — there's no need for him to come out and receive us!" You Zhentian waved his hand. Their Hidden Right Family had come this time to seek cooperation with the Kang family, so there was no need to strike too lofty a pose.

"How could that be? Since the two of you have come from a hidden aristocratic family, I'll have someone open the main gate at once and have my father come out to receive both of your distinguished selves!" Kang Guifeng knew that You Zhentian was only being polite, and naturally did not dare to be lax. He hastily instructed several servants at the entrance to open the Kang family's main gate, then quickly called Divine Doctor Kang.

Divine Doctor Kang had not been having an easy time of it these past few days either. The title of an aristocratic family was beyond their reach, and not only that — the Kang family had been completely excluded from the sphere of aristocratic family influence. On the territory of the families whose members belonged to the Association led by Wei Zhao, the Kang family's business would likely proceed with great difficulty!

He had previously wanted to cooperate with the Xiao family, joining forces with the Hidden Pi Family to form a coalition of interests, but he had no idea whether they would even look favorably upon the Kang family...

Just as Divine Doctor Kang was fretting over this, a burst of urgent telephone ringing sounded.

"Hello?" Divine Doctor Kang snapped back to his senses and quickly grabbed the phone. This was his private line; only the Xiao family and his own family knew the number, so Divine Doctor Kang took the call very seriously.

"Father, it's me, Guifeng!" Kang Guifeng said.

"Guifeng? If you have something to discuss, why didn't you come over in person? Why call while you're still in the house?" Divine Doctor Kang was somewhat puzzled.

"Father, two distinguished guests have arrived at the house. Bring younger brother and the juniors — come quickly to receive them!" Kang Guifeng said urgently. Although You Zhentian had been courteous, he could hardly afford to be remiss in showing proper respect!

"What distinguished guests require me to come out and receive them? Is it the two Xiao brothers?" Divine Doctor Kang was taken aback. After all, although the two Xiao brothers were of the younger generation, no matter how fallen the Xiao family was, they still had the Hidden Pi Family supporting them — while the Kang family had nothing.

"The young master of the Hidden Right Family has come!" Kang Guifeng said.

"What! The Hidden Right Family!" Divine Doctor Kang leaped up from his chair. He had never imagined that someone from a hidden aristocratic family would come to the Kang residence. He said hurriedly, "Good, wait for me — I'll be right there!"

Divine Doctor Kang hastily sought out Kang Cuipu, Kang Zhaolong, and Kang Zhaoming, and together they came to the Kang family's main entrance. Sure enough, they saw two people of extraordinary bearing in conversation with Kang Guifeng.

"Two distinguished guests, this humble one is Kang Laicai, head of the Kang family. Please, do come in —" Having heard that the other party was from a hidden aristocratic family, Divine Doctor Kang naturally treated them with the utmost respect.

"Old Master Kang need not stand on ceremony. Our Hidden Right Family, among the hidden aristocratic families, also studies medicine and pharmacology. By that reckoning, we are colleagues, so to speak." You Zhentian said with a smile. "After you, Old Master Kang!"

"Haha, compared to you, we are nothing more than a minor dabbling — how could that be called studying medicine and pharmacology?" Divine Doctor Kang sensed the goodwill in You Zhentian's words and was immediately greatly stirred. It seemed that the Hidden Right Family's visit this time was a good thing!

The group came together into the Kang family's reception hall, where You San introduced You Zhentian's identity. Divine Doctor Kang grew even more excited: "So you are the young master of the Right Family! My respects, my respects! I've heard that the Right Family is a medicinal family skilled in alchemy. For you to honor our Kang family with a visit is truly our greatest glory!"

"Old Master Kang, we have come this time for a single matter." You Zhentian waved his hand and said, "You needn't stand on ceremony. We have come with the intention of seeking your guidance..."

"Young Master You flatters me. If there is anything at all, please speak freely!" Divine Doctor Kang was rather overwhelmed by the flattery in You Zhentian's tone.

"It's like this. Our Hidden Right Family has a good relationship with the Hidden Pi Family. From them, we received word that your Kang family has been researching the formula for the Longevity and Detoxification Pill. Might I ask if there has been any progress or results?" You Zhentian asked.

"The Longevity and Detoxification Pill?" Divine Doctor Kang was taken aback, then immediately understood the purpose of the Right Family's visit. So it was for the formula of the Longevity and Detoxification Pill — no wonder they were so courteous! But Divine Doctor Kang knew that before such a colossus as a hidden aristocratic family, he could not speak carelessly. He could only tell the truth: "That matter does indeed exist, but as for the formula... we are not researching it — we stole it..."

"Stole it? What do you mean?" You Zhentian was slightly taken aback.

"The matter at the Yu family's auction — Young Master You must know of it, surely?" Divine Doctor Kang asked.

"Auction? What auction?" You Zhentian did not quite follow Divine Doctor Kang's meaning.

And You Zhentian's response left Divine Doctor Kang stunned in turn. In his view, how could the Hidden Right Family not know of the Yu family's auction?

In fact, the Hidden Right Family had never paid any attention to the affairs of the secular aristocratic families before, and the nine great secular aristocratic families likewise had no connection with the hidden aristocratic families. Aside from the secular Yu family's relationship with the Hidden Yu Family, even the Xiao family had only recently established contact with the Pi Family. So it was perfectly natural that the Hidden Right Family neither cared about nor paid attention to the auctions of the secular aristocratic families.
