Chapter 2060 — I Don't Want to Cheat You
"Yes, young master Right!" At Right Panhu's command, Yellow Hair drew out the Yellow-rank first-grade pill cauldron in his hands and held it up before Wei Zhao.
"A Yellow-rank first-grade pill cauldron?" A flicker of something strange crossed Wei Zhao's eyes. Right Panhu was actually offering pill cauldrons in exchange for that information? Wei Zhao felt a powerful urge to laugh. Just days ago he had been fretting over where to buy a pill cauldron, and now, the very next day, a fool had delivered one right to his door!
But though Wei Zhao wanted the trade, he could not let it show too plainly on his face. Otherwise, if Right Panhu later realized he had been taken advantage of, he would certainly raise a fuss and never let it go. To avoid trouble, Wei Zhao intended to make him swallow this loss with his broken teeth down in his belly.
"That's right, a Yellow-rank first-grade pill cauldron, exactly!" Right Panhu said smugly. "What do you think? You went to Antique Street looking for a pill cauldron before, didn't you? If I'm not mistaken, it was for Han Jingyi. But I can tell you for a fact: those pill cauldrons sold on Antique Street, whether genuine antiques or reproductions, are all decorative craft pieces. They can't be used for pill refinement at all. Try to refine pills in one and the furnace will blow!"
Looking at the pill cauldron in Yellow Hair's hands, Wei Zhao's heart stirred at once. A pill cauldron from the Hidden Right family would naturally be the specialized kind used by alchemists. On this point, Wei Zhao trusted that Right Panhu could not deceive him—after all, even now Right Panhu could not gauge Wei Zhao's true strength; he had no idea whether Wei Zhao was an alchemist at all, or what grade of alchemist he might be.
"You guessed right—that cauldron did blow its furnace," Wei Zhao said coolly. "But I still don't want to trade with you."
"It blew the furnace and you still don't want to trade?" Right Panhu was taken aback by this contradictory response. "Why not?"
"The reason? It's actually quite simple. The information Chief Bai gave me is of no use to you. Your Hidden Right family is vast and powerful, a clan of alchemists—why would you set your eyes on ordinary information like this?" Wei Zhao said mildly. "So, for fear you'd lose out, I'd still rather not trade."
"You..." Hearing Wei Zhao's words, Right Panhu might have thought he was looking out for him—that the information was not worth the price of a first-grade pill cauldron, so he had best not trade. But to Right Panhu's ears, the words carried a different meaning entirely.
Right Panhu was certain Wei Zhao thought the first-grade pill cauldron was simply too shabby and did not want to trade, and was only saying all this to put him off. So Right Panhu drew a deep breath and said calmly, "Wei Zhao, if you think the goods are poor, just say so. It's not as though I, Right Panhu, can't afford good things. How about this—a second-grade pill cauldron. Will you trade or not?"
"Second-grade?" Wei Zhao was astonished beyond measure, though his face betrayed nothing. He gave Right Panhu a cold glance and said, "You have a second-grade pill cauldron?"
Originally, trading that worthless street-stall information for even a first-grade pill cauldron would have been a fine bargain. Wei Zhao had truly only meant to play it cool, so that after the trade Right Panhu would not feel cheated and start pestering him—that was why he had deliberately said those things. But he never expected Right Panhu to mistake his meaning and pull out a second-grade pill cauldron on the spot!
Of course, only a fool would turn down good goods—and that was not Wei Zhao's way.
"Naturally!" Right Panhu nodded to Purple Hair. "Take it out and let classmate Wei Zhao have a look!"
"Classmate Wei Zhao, please look—this is a second-grade pill cauldron!" Purple Hair drew a pill cauldron from his robes and held it up before Wei Zhao. "What do you think? You're an alchemist too—you should recognize it, shouldn't you? This is a genuine second-grade pill cauldron, forged by a high-ranked alchemist of the Mystic Pill Sect!"
"A second-grade pill cauldron forged by the Mystic Pill Sect?" Enlightenment dawned on Wei Zhao—so high-ranked alchemists could forge pill cauldrons themselves! Yet his face still wore that same lukewarm expression. "I still don't really want to trade."
"What the hell!" Right Panhu had thought a second-grade pill cauldron would surely move Wei Zhao, but to his surprise, he still did not want to trade! This time, though, Wei Zhao's tone had loosened somewhat—"don't really want to trade" meant he was somewhat tempted, but the price offered was perhaps not yet high enough! So Right Panhu swallowed his anger and asked patiently, "Wei Zhao, just what will it take for you to agree?"
"Right Panhu, it's not that I won't trade with you—it's that the information in my hands truly should be of no great use to you!" Wei Zhao said with earnest gravity. "I don't think your Hidden Right family lacks information like this. Why put me in such a difficult spot? Chief Bai said as much—she told me not to show it to just anyone!"
"Lack it? Of course we lack it!" Right Panhu said hurriedly. "Since you've already shown it to Han Jingyi, one more won't make a difference, will it?"
"Han Jingyi is a newly initiated alchemist, so this information is useful to her. But you... your alchemy level surely isn't bad. This information would be useless to you!" Wei Zhao said.
"Damn it, Wei Zhao, why do you have so much nonsense to spout? Wanting to trade is my own idea. Even if I trade back a pile of junk, that's what I'm willing to do—so why are you eating turnips and worrying yourself sick over nothing?" Right Panhu finally burst out in anger. "I'm willing to trade—a thousand gold can't buy 'I'm willing,' you understand? If you think my offer isn't suitable, just say so! Don't think I don't know what's on your mind—don't! You plainly think one pill cauldron is too few, isn't that right?"
"This..." Wei Zhao looked at the rampaging Right Panhu and sighed helplessly. Not a few—really, not a few at all!
"Just as I thought! Two pill cauldrons—one first-grade and one second-grade. What do you say? Two for one. Will you trade or not? Give me a straight answer, and be quick about it!" Right Panhu took the pill cauldrons from both Yellow Hair and Purple Hair and thrust them before Wei Zhao.
"Tsk tsk... I really do want these two pill cauldrons, but that information truly isn't worth this much!" Wei Zhao said with a bitter smile. "Right Panhu, you're my classmate now. I don't want to cheat you. Take my advice—let's not trade."
"It's not trading that would cheat me!" Right Panhu held up the two pill cauldrons, beside himself with agitation. "Wei Zhao, if you're my classmate, then all the more reason to help a classmate out!"
"Brother Wei Zhao, maybe just trade with him... I need a pill cauldron now anyway... and he does look rather pitiful..." Han Jingyi said in a small, timid voice.
"Look at that, just look at that! I'm really puzzled—we're classmates living and studying in the same classroom, so how can the gap in character be this huge!" Right Panhu looked at Han Jingyi and said excitedly, "A true kindred spirit!"
